Leaving day is finally upon us.
I enter this day knowing that I did everything I could to love, teach and mentor a worldly aware citizen of the universe. Now it is up to her and to the ‘Great Powers’ to protect her and guide her on the next part of the journey. She told me I am not allowed to cry. I am not sure I can do that.

As she drove the 5 1/2 hours up to NY following behind in her own car, I got to a point when looking in my rearview mirror, that I just had to shed a tear of happiness.

So sad, but SO exciting. Hang in there. The pictures are a tiny clue to how far she’s come.

I cried too and I don’t see how you can’t.
You’ve done an amazing job, it’s time for the universe now.

Yes Jodi – there is no way I can not (but she knows that). Trusting the universe is a really hard skill to learn, but I will (and a lot of phone calls).

So hard when they grow up but, as you say, you’ve taught her everything you could, now she has to spread her wings and find her own way. She’ll be back. Just shed your tears when she can’t see you. We all understand.

My sis told my mom the same thing when she left for boot camp back in May: “Don’t cry, Mom!”
Your daughter is on her way to creating lasting memories and a wonderful future, and she would not have the courage to do just that if she did not have you as her mom!
