11.30.12 Furry Foto Friday

I thought I would share some pictures on what I am calling “Furry Foto Friday.”  What is your cutest foto of your furry friends? Is your camera 98% animal pictures?  Do you keep fuzzy ones too, just because you like what they were doing?

11.29.12 This Blog Hop Thing

All year long I have seen blogs hopping.  I have identified 4 days of the week for pet hops:

  • Monday Mischief
  • Wordless Wednesday
  • This ‘N That Thursday
  • Black & White Sunday

I am trying to figure out what a Blog Hop really is.  From what I can tell it is a list of blog posts with a related theme all tied to each other.  One blog acts as the host of the list of links, called a Linky, on their page.  There sometimes are rules that must be followed on that page too. (Am I getting this right?)  You add your info to the Linky and then repost the Linky on your blog to promote the hop.  I think I like this idea. Do I have to go back to the first blog in the hop, or will any hopper blog do?  Not totally sure yet, but I think I may try to be a bunny and hop on some of those days in my new year (remember yesterday was our first blogevarsary).

Sofie & Louise with a green carrot:
They are not bunnies but they do hop.

Do you know of any hops for Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday?

11.28.12 DOGDAZ One Year Blogeversary

Top row: Sofie Bear, The Muffin Man, Louise, Noel
Bottom row: Nine, Miss Constance Kitty, Baby Stella

I created a DogDaz family portrait to commemorate our one year of blogging.  I really can not believe that I have posted every day for one year.  It has been an incredible experience.  Some weeks were really hard, especially when my work load was busy or I was traveling.  And then there were the days that I was sick or just tired or maybe both.  But I did it!  I must say that I have virtually met some really wonderful people out there in cyberspace and some feel as close as physical friends do.  We have shared our joys, our sorrows, loss, and gains, and most of all, we have shared of ourselves, of who we are.  I really had no idea what I was getting into when I started this last November, it just seemed like a fun way to focus on the animals.  What I never realized was that over time, it would become a way to focus and get clear on the things going on in my life, a cathartic experience, and mostly, a calming and deeply enjoyable endeavor.

So what does one do when they have blogged everyday for a year?  Do they take a break for awhile?  Do they go to Disneyland? I am not sure.  DogDaz has become a ritual part of my everyday life.  Thank you for reading and for commenting and thanks for all the awards.  All of us here at the DogDaz Zoo are so happy that we got to share this year with you.  But don’t go to far away just yet because just like the animals, I like routine, and DogDaz is now a big part of mine.

Happy Blogeversary!

11.27.12: I Admit It – I Gamble

Sometimes you win.  Sometimes you don’t.  Life is a gamble.  There are no sure bets.  I figure it just depends on how much you are willing to put into something to see if there is anything that you get out of it.  Those of you that know me personally, know that I love to gamble; but I am also not willing to risk more than I am prepared to lose (so is that really a gamble?).

Blogging to me is like a slot machine: I never know on any given day if I am going to hit the jackpot of readers or not (I do look at that Stats page a lot).  But, no matter what, I have fun blogging, so for me, it’s a win.   It takes a considerable amount of time and energy to blog.  I have to spend time thinking about what to blog about.  I worry what will make a good read.  What is important to say, and how to say it.  Should I do it this way, or that way?  Should I take a chance that people are going to read what I wrote?  That I might make some people: think, smile, pass-me-by, ‘Like’ me?  Do I care enough? or too much?  What if they hate me?  What if I do all this work and no one reads it?  In the end, I win though, because I have a great time doing it.

“Gambling has been ubiquitous in human history, and the gambling impulse has served us well. It is part of “the adventurer within us”– that part of ourselves which lusts for change, the wooing of the unknown, chance, danger, all that is new. It sends us to both the gaming tables and the moon, the laboratory and the numbers man. It is part of what makes us human.

…Studies show that, contrary to popular belief, gambling is by and large beneficial to the gambler and increases rather than decreases his efficiency. It is beneficial in that it stimulates, offers hope, allows decision making, and, in many cases, provides the gambler with “peak experience,” that godlike feeling when all of one’s physical and emotional senses are “go.”” http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/gamble/procon/virtues.html

Recent Wins!!!!

When I lived in the State of Connecticut it’s gambling motto was: “You Can’t Win, If You Don’t Play.”  That is kind of my motto too.  Every time I rescue an animal and bring it into my home, it is a gamble.  Will they fit, will they create havoc, and with some, will they even survive the night?  This has given me some of the greatest joys, but also, some deep sadness.  I admit it: I am a Gambler.

11.26.12 Afterglow

All the kids have gone back to school.  The pawty is over.  Now all that is left is the warm feeling of us all together, even if just for a moment.  I really enjoyed my birthday.  Mom made some pumpkin treats that were extra special nice.  I got a new bandana and some toys.  But I don’t want the world to go back to normal yet.  I like basking in the afterglow of all the fun.
