Angels

Big Meadow in the Sky Page

Meet the Angles of DogDaz Zoo.

They have left this earth for the big meadow over the rainbow bridge,

Some stayed a long time with me, and some left too soon.

They shared their lives with me.

  Each one taught me something.

Thank you, Sweet Angles, for allowing me to tell your stories.

NOEL

(aka the Christmas Cat)

March 17, 2007 to January 11, 2024

Noel, the Christmas Cat, also known as Queen Noel, and Nono, would have been 17 years old this March. She was just the sweetest cat. There was not a mean bone in this angel’s body. From teaching her how to play with toys in her first year, to her becoming deaf and demented in her last, this sweet lady kept us smiling (and laughing). In her last few months, she became very vocal and started to demand attention and food around the clock. She would sit outside the bedroom door and cat-a-wail until I came out and held her. We really were never sure what she wanted except to be loved and be near. We are really going to miss you, Nono. I hope that there is bacon in cat-heaven.

CHARLES

(aka Charlie the Mugwump)

July 15, 2008 to June 28, 2023

Handsome, sweet, and funny doesn’t even begin to describe Mr. Charles. He came to us when he was already 8 and we were his 5th home. “He is a biter,” they said – well not in our house he wasn’t. He was the perfect retired little man for retired V – slept late, loved to eat, and then snuggled down for some good evening TV. At 13 lbs you would think he was a giant. He loved the big dogs, especially Sofie, and was heartbroken when they both passed away in 2022. When we got Jolie, another little, he started to smile again and you saw a spring in his step despite his age and illnesses starting to take him from us. He left us at 15 years young. Another irreplaceable being.

LOUISE

(aka Lulu Belle)

October 31, 2009 to June 17, 2022

12-1/2 years of Louise was not enough. She rescued us when she was about 4 months old with a collar embedded in her neck and covered with mange. Shy and serious, she grew into this happy, confident, companion. The cats all loved her and the other dogs wanted to be near her. Her last few years were not the kindest because of cancer and other things, but she still loved her daily walks with Mom almost until the end when her back gave out. Seeing Lulu smile was just pure happiness.

SOFIE BEAR

November 25, 2010 to March 18, 2022

Sofie was as unique as they come. Silly and complicated all in one big bundle of fur. She was the hardest dog that I ever had because of her fears, separation anxiety, and overall mental health issues, and she was my greatest joy with her rolling and snuggling and silly dog behavior. She will forever be stamped on my heart.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————

NINE

February 14, 2011 to March 10, 2022

He got his name because he was our 9th cat and the last number on the card on his kennel at the rescue was 9. A handsome domestic short hair, he was thoughtful and playful and just an all-around good guy. He has left a big hole in the zoo.

————————————————————————————————————————————————————

Miss Constance KITTY (aka Connie, Kitty)

2007 to December 2012

Kitty left us way too young.

She was born with feline scoliosis and we knew she was a short-timer.

She made us laugh more than any other cat. Such a joker.

————————————————————————

THE MUFFIN MAN (aka Muffin, Muffy)

Passed over November 30, 2012

Muffin in March
Muffin was the typical orange cat: really lovable, liked everyone, and would make trouble when he could just for fun. There was something special about Muffy’s energy that made everyone that met him fall in love with him. Muffin was one of those cats you never forget,

————————————————————————————————-

CUDDLES

Passed over in August 2010

Cuddles, who was a Russian Blue, basically hated everyone except her one person. She would bat at you when you walked by.

She sometimes tolerated her brother, Zachary, and maybe another cat or two for a moment. She loved french fries and might be nice to you if you gave her one.

———————————————————————————————–

GEORGIA

Guinea Pig

2005 to April 2010

Georgia was the sweetest guinea pig. She was the mother of 3 who she birthed in our house.
She was shy and quiet, she outlived her husband, Mr. Motto, and all of her children.

———————————————————————————————–

ZACHARY

Passed over February 2010

Zachary was such a handsome, undemanding cat. He was a Russian Blue, like his sister, Cuddles. His domain was the kitchen and he rarely ventured further. Sweet and cuddly, he liked tummy rubs and a good piece of chicken from time to time.

———————————————————————————————–

SQUASH E BEAR

Passed over in February 2010

If you have a dog soul mate, Squash was mine. Rescued the streets in North Carolina at about 5 years old, he was just an incredible being. People would stop their cars to ask what breed he was. He was a gentleman and an enormous presence wherever he went. He was a twice-a-day insulin-dependent diabetic but he did not mine the shots and the care and in return, he taught us all how to be better humans. He was a dog that you never forget.

———————————————————————————————–

MR. MOTO

Guinea Pig

2005 to 2009

Mr. Moto, originally Martha, came to live with us with Georgia. We did not know he was a boy until they were about 3 months old and he got Georgia pregnant. We learned a lot about sexing Guinea Pigs that year. He was an awesome pig. He loved his greens, sleeping on your lap, and running circles under the dining room table.

———————————————————————————————–

S’MOREe Guinea Pig

Passed in 2009

No Picture that I can find

He was dropped on our doorstep by people that could not take care of him (a friend of a friend who know we had pigs). He died very shortly after we took him in. Maybe only a few months.

———————————————————————————————–

CHECKERS

Guinea Pig (daughter of Mo & Georgia)

2005 – 2009

Me 3 Pigs

Sister to Bubba and Panda (who were adopted out in 2005),who all were the offsprings of Moto & Georgia, Checkers lived with her mom and dad until her time came. She was a quiet pig who liked to play with the family.

 GERTRUDE

1992-2007

Gertrude was such a calico cat if you know calicos. She only wanted my attention and was quietly demanding about it. She loved to just lie in the window on a cool day or sleep in my office. She was the sweetest of cats and just wanted a lap or a chair to sleep in.

———————————————————————————————–

NIKKOLETTE (Nikki)

1989-2007

Nikki was a pure breed cocker spaniel but her ears were too high for show quality which was silly because it made her even cuter.. What an awesome lovely girl she was. Loving and gently, and just perfect at 25 lbs for the time in my life when the children were little. She traveled everywhere with me. She was trained by Gertrude and Alice, her cat sisters, so she thought she was a cat sometimes and laid on top of the sofa to look out the window like they did.

The most was 11 (5 Guinea pigs, 5 cats, 1 dog) at one time with 2 adults and 3 kids. Now we have only 5 (2 dogs, 3 cats). But wait a week and that will change. Never know who finds their way to the zoo. ❤

This is a sweet memory page. I’m glad I found your DogDaz site. I remember Nikki, Squash, Cuddles, Zachary, Muffin, Alice and Gertrude with much affection. I marvel at how you managed the care for so many, making time to give each love and attention. Plus the piggies too. I miss my dogs, Ginger and Augie, not to mention, Louie, my 5 year old sky blue and white parakeet, who flew away during last year’s earthquake. Your pretty blonde dog looks a lot like my Augie, only smaller. I look forward to reading more updates on your zoo! 🙂

So glad you found us. Yes, you were there for many of the zoo, new and old, and especially for Peanut through all these years. I did not know that your bird flew the coop. That is so sad. I remember Ginger and Augie. Sofie is definitely smaller but just as feisty.

Thanks. They are truly all angels now. Sometimes their spirits still run down the hall.
