Miss Constance Kitty has lost her mind. It is very hard to deal with when one member of the zoo starts to act out in such a way that it effects all of us. Kitty has always been a little ‘off.’ She was a kitten when we rescued her, with a condition called ‘scoliosis,’ (a curve in her spine which runs all the way from head to the tip of her tail). We had concerns that as she aged there may be problems physically but I am not sure her current problem is related, as I think it is emotional. Over the last year she has gotten increasingly mean and now is peeing on everything, everywhere and scratching us. She does not appear to be in physical pain, can jump and run fine, but is really bothered by the kittens and jumps at almost everyone and everything now. I was making animal breakfast this morning (kittens in their room locked away, dogs on the floor, and 3 older cats up on the counter), and she just decided to attack my hand when placing her bowl down. It does not help that she is being menanced by the kittens, but this totally psycho behavior is new. We love Kitty and are very saddened by what is going on with her. We will try antibiotics, then anxiety medicine, but in the end, I just think she is one unhappy kitty and there is no medicine that is going to fix that. 😦 Off to the see Dr. Kate. We are hoping she will know what to do.
Just another DogDaz morning at the zoo ❤

Depending on what your Dr. Kate says, here’s what I think: From the lovely name Miss Constance Kitty, I am thinking this is one spoiled little girl! Whenever a cat pees somewhere unauthorized in the house, it is a message to the owners that she is frantically unhappy! It can also mean that she isn’t feeling well, perhaps something in her tract is troubling her, but that she went so far as to scratch you means she is really trying to get your attention! I am thinking Dr. Kate will certainly have some similar ideas! Best of luck to you and Miss Kitty! Please let us know! Cissy in Texas

I know it very well. That is why we hope that this is not physical pain. Thanks

Thank you Cissy. With 5 cats and 2 dogs having such a change in behavior sets off a bad pattern. Yes, clearly Kitty is not happy. Spoiled? Not any of my babies! No way! LOL

Kitty is going on 5. We have had her since she was a few months old. We do not know her history, like most rescues, but her brother, who we did not take, could not use his back legs very well and was not able to hold his bathroom needs.

We sure hope that the doctor can figure out what is causing Kitty to be like that and can help her. Hugs and nose kisses

Well Dr Kate said that Kitty is physically fine. So now we have to move to the anxiety part of the equation which is much harder. Kitty is pissed (literally) and is now sequestered in a bathroom. Thanks for your concern.

Glad to hear that Kitty is physically okay…but I agree the anxiety part is much harder to deal with. I sure hope the situation gets better very soon.

Thanks for telling us what happened with the Dr. Maybe even as she is staying alone in the bath, you could introduce some new things, like a little bit of planted grass, or some catnip, or maybe some new toys, a new type of food, something that will spark her interest and change her state of mind a little… I surely do hope that you all can find some peace! Best wishes for Miss Kitty!

Have you consider some alternative therapy? There are a series of Bach Rescue Remedy treatments for animals which can be tailored to suit your pet. One of our Mummy’s friends dogs was a nervous wreck of a rescue but within days of trying rescue remedy she was becoming more confident and less afraid.
Might be worth looking into this.

Don’t know if you’ve tried this but there are plug-ins with pheromones that are supposed to relax cats. Good luck!

Tried it years ago in spray form, but not sure for which cat. Thanks for the suggestion.

May I ask how old is Miss Constance Kitty? If she is an older cat, I’m wondering if it age-related….I’ve read that dogs can get dementia when they become senior citizens, but I don’t know if the same is true for cats. I hope her appointment with her vet went well! All the best!

Thanks for your concern. Miss Kitty is quit young at 5. I have had both dogs and cats with dementia, so it is very real but not this Kitty’s problem.
