Caturday: Last Good Bye

Mr. Nine is sorely missed at the Zoo. There is not a day that goes by that Mini isn’t looking for her buddy. For a rather small guy (Nine was 9 lbs (of course he was)), he had a very large presence. He usually disappeared when anyone he didn’t know was in the house, but otherwise, he was out and about all the time (even at 3 AM): playing on the cat tree, sleeping in the boat (SS Stella), menacing Noel. He loved to lay behind V on the couch and snuggle.

We won the lottery for 11 years with that guy!

I will be adding him to the ANGELS page which you can find in the top menu.

Love you forever, Nine.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Caturday: Conversation with Noel & Nine

Noel: Nine, I told you that she was busy and she wasn’t going to give you any treats.

Why don’t you listen to me? I know her every move. I have been here 15 years.

Nine: Listen, old lady, I know that you have been around the zoo fur a million years, but if I stay on the counter and look cute and starving, she will break down and give us something. You just watch!

Noel: Is it working, Nine?

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Caturday: The Boys Are Boss

Nine: Hey, Charlie. Don’t you think it is hard sometimes, being the only two guys in a house full of girls?

Charles: Not really, Nine. They know that I am really the bossman. Well, maybe don’t tell Sofie.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

DogDaz Zoo: Happy Whistle-Pig Day

These Ground Hogs are such funny weather predicting creatures. They have names like woodchuck, land-beaver, and whistle-pig. Our regional prognosticator is named Punxsutawney Phil. Phil is known as the “Seer of Seers,” the “Prognosticator of Prognosticators” and the “Most Photographed Pennsylvanian.” People in Pennsylvania dress up in top hats and tails and have this whole big event each year to see if we are going to have an early spring or late winter. Leave it to a rodent to let us know.

Groundhog day actually designates the middle point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. There are 6 more weeks until the Vernal Equinox, which marks the beginning of spring. No matter what Phil says – SPRING IS COMING!!!!! Make way for crocus and daffodils.

CatWeek at the Zoo: Shades of Gray

This is not a black and white photograph. It is gray and white Nine on the gray carpet in a sunbeam. He looks like a kitten here. Ah, the much-desired sunspots are few in this house. The stairs are one place you can catch a few rays if a dog is not hogging the stair.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Caturday: Catching Stella

Trying to get a picture of Stella is almost impossible because even at 10 years old she is always a moving target. She is in constant motion when you visit with her. She is a sweetheart to humans, as you know, but just can’t tolerate other cats. She actually likes Louise and Sofie but does not like Charles at all (maybe because he is more cat than a dog). Meow Out Loud!

CatWeek at the Zoo: Transfixed

The cats, at least Nine and Mini, have been moving the curtains and spending a great deal of time, looking out the back window.

I thought, how nice, they are watching the world go by.

And then only this morning did I realize that V put a new bird feeder in line of sight to the window and they were watching all the action going on there. Cat entertainment is a main focus of our existence.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

CatWeek at the Zoo: Mini Moment

Don’t let the sunshine fool you, it was about 10 degrees outside when Mini Cooper decided to pose for me in the cat window. It is rare to get Mini by herself in the window since that is Noel’s domain. The cold air rushes in through this old non-insulated herb window, but we keep it because the cats just adore it. At night I take all the plants out and close it with a curtain, though Noel goes in and out which kind of defeats the purpose of trying to keep it closed off for warmth. What we do for cats.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Caturday: No Longer Inseparable

I remember when these 2 were inseparable. Now it is a rare moment to find them actually touching. It used to be wherever you would find Nine, Mini would be. It is so interesting how the dynamics change over the years.
