1.27.12 5:11: Duck!!!!
I thought that maybe if I blogged about something summerish, I could virtually escape the winter cold and feel warm again. Well, every spring the ducks decide to come and have their families under my bushes. For years I have named the pairs, Harold & Maude, Harry & Sally, Bonnie & Clyde, and it seems like they come back year after year, and their children then come too. Well, last year Maude decided instead of teaching the kids to swim in the river down the street, she would teach them in my pool. Only problem is that they were all to small to get out and they could not walk up the ladder or the steps.
So, after about an hour of my whole family trying to figure out what to do, with floats, and surf boards, and whatevers, I finally made a successful exit ramp for the little family. Can you believe that they did not even say ‘good bye.’ They just waddled after Mom down the street to the river.
Just another DogDaz afternoon at our house. ❤
1.26.12 6:45: Baby, It’s Cold Outside!
Winter has finally settled in. The windchill bites through your skin like a razor. The dogs and I still go on our daily 1 miler but it is not so comfortable for the human. I tried to capture a little series of our travels. You can see that Louise and Sofie are not very good followers. It is their walk and I am just a weight on the end of the leashes. That is me in the red bacalava face mask. It really does help if you need to protect your face (though I worry that my neighbors may think I am coming to rob their houses). My gloves are so big that I keep dropping the leashes, but the dogs think that is funny. The last picture is a self portrait of the 3 of us. Well, it is just another freezing dogdaz morning at my house. ❤
More Dogs Are Delaying Retirement Than Ever Before
More Dogs Are Delaying Retirement Than Ever Before
As the largest generation of dogs in history is about to hit retirement age, a new study released by the Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that more than ever, pups are putting off leaving the work force. ”The economic climate is such that many canines feel the have to work more years so that they can stretch pensions further once they do retire,” said Sandy Almonte, head of the BLS’ dog research division.

1.25.12 7:21: Some Rules Need Breaking
Though I have always had strict rules about no dogs on the bed, I lost the battle with my teenager and Louise. This is a picture of a very happy Louise, taking a nap on the very messy teenage bed (I added the dream bubble, of course). This picture was not planned or set up in any way. What you see are really all the things that make up C’s life. Let’s start on the left with the little girl stuffed animals that live on the end of her 17 year old bed. To the bottom left appears to be a box of shoes (of which she has more than Emelda Marcos), a lacy red bra, and a pair of jeans. This all nicely positioned next to her MacBook on it’s chill pad (because she does listen to Mom about somethings). Moving along the single bed we find the back of some fashion magazine (I think it is Allure) and a deck of Tarot cards (the Rider-Waite deck). All this appears to be placed on top of some music CD that was home made. There are 2 hangers near the pillows, obviously from some clothes that are probably on the floor, which, believe me, you do not want to see (do you ever watch Hoarders – that is what a teenagers room is like). I see that the hangers are on top of a make-up case. Behind Louise is a bag of cotton balls, which usually means C has polished her nails recently. Louise is sleeping on C’s blanky that she still takes everywhere. It is like a purple shag rug on one side and silky on the other. It has been with her for I do not know how long. It goes to sleepovers, and camps, and in the car. I am sure it will go to college next year. But, Louise and I won’t. So, I will open C’s door and let Lulu sleep on her bed. Because, some rules just need breaking when you’re a teenager. Just another DogDaz morning at our house ❤
