7.9.12 Those Darn Ducks

Duckie and Luckie (2 local ducks) were sunning on the dock. Lulu saw them first and decided to give chase. The ducks flew into the water just out of easy dog reach. Sofie started to swim towards them, but decided that maybe it wasn’t the best idea.  I don’t let the dogs in the river often because of concern for bacteria etc., but at 110 degrees in the shade I figure they really needed the swim. Our daily walks are getting shorter and shorter and earlier and earlier because of the heat wave.  This was a nice adventure.

Ducks are kind of funny creatures. They appear to be smart enough to stay safe but they sure are funny and like to tease the dogs.  I have not seen any ducklings yet, which I usually do by now, so I am concerned if the heat is even effecting them.

Just another DogDaz morning at the zoo ❤

Glad the dogs didn’t want to eat the ducks (that’s what our dogs want to do!)

Oh – I am sure they want to eat them – they just can’t get to them. LOL

Where I leave there’s a river, more like a canal of a big river, water looks dirty, gross, however, life thrives on it, plenty of huge fish, turtles, ducks, geese and the training center for elite rowers is here too, where I wanna get is that I was reluctant to allow Doggy to swim in that water, until he decided other wise, chasing ducks he jumped in the water, I freaked out, gave him a bath and hoped for the better. At his next vet appointment I asked about swimming there, he said it was ok as long as he didn’t drink much of it, but that it’s hard to control, so I keep him off the river, he enjoys the park’s fountain better anyway. But I agree, ducks are devious creatures.

The water looks pretty good to me and looks like the girls thought so too 🙂 Is there something in it that worries you? My dogs swim in yucky ponds and I just hose them off afterwards, of course it is for training purposes but working dogs swim in all kinds of water to retrieve the birds.

Last summer a swimmer contacted the Vibrio virus. The physician determined that the man’s leg was infected by vibrio which is a marine organism that entered the Magothy (my river) from the Chesapeake Bay due to very warm water temperatures and increasing salinity levels. The infection is very serious and the man lost part of his leg due to the infection. To prevent possible infection from this organism they recommend that it is not safe to swim in the water if you have a cut or if you are immunocompromised. Sounds scary to me – I am not very good at life gambling. 🙂

Oh my word that is awful! I see why you are so cautious I would be too. Luckily we don’t have anything like that here.
