11.18.12 The Last Nasturtium

18 Nov

The last Nasturtium of the season is reaching for the sun.  She made it through Super Storm Sandy somehow, and is soaking up the last final sun rays of fall. Louise does that too.  She finds the one sunny spot, wherever it may be in the yard and lies down to soak it in.  She has always been a sun worshipper.  She just cracks me up because she will go to great lengths for one little sun spot.  Sofie on the other hand, is a shade dweller, like me.  She gets tired of Louise’s sunbathing after awhile and tends to be a spoiler: “Time to play, Lulu. Time to play!”

I love the smells of fall.  People are starting to use their fire places to take away the night chill and the air is filled with the earthy yet sweet aroma of burning wood.  There is something just so comforting to me about that smell.  The first time that I remember smelling burning wood was a summer camp bonfire when I was 5; I was mesmerized by the incredible smell.  I also love the smell of the crisp air in the morning, so clean and fresh, and then there is the smell of the the seasonal cooking.  Oh my….  all this from a Nasturtium.   I wish the internet had ‘smellavision,’ I would bottle some of these delicious scents and post them here for you to enjoy.  Well hopefully today you can at least enjoy a ray of sun like Louise.

Just another DogDaz morning at the zoo ❤

To me, there is something very homely about nasturshums – they remind me of my childhood as our garden was full of them, tumbling down a wall; so pretty and so colourful.
It’s funny how some dogs will go to great lengths to lie in a tiny ray of sunshine, Louise is definitely a sun worshipper!

The sights and smells of childhood seemed burned on the memory of our total recall. Glad I could bring you home.

Is not nasturtiums wonderful! We grows them, and they always dies at the first frost. This year we had that (the frost) at the end of September, but one of the summer plants sent a shoot up along the siding under the bay window and a cluster of leaves and a few flowers was blooming way up high.
Mommy thought about ripping everything out of the bed and getting it ready for winter, but this part of one plant had survived – even past the first snow of the season. She left it and yesterday when her and the hairy slobbery sisters went for their morning walk, not only was there 3 inches of snow, but 2 more blooms! Why our 0/32 degree temperatures has not killed this part of one plant, we has no idea, but we is really enjoying this last piece of summer!

Nellie – I am always amazed at the strength of some plants. Glad your Mom left the survivor to enjoy one more day. – DogDaz

Bet you’d make a small fortune if you could figure out how to bottle smells such as those. Definitely worth looking into.

Thanks Cats, now if I can just find a venture capitalist to fund the engineering. 🙂

I agree with LuLu and the flower. In the sun is the place to be. Yesterday, I hit the asphalt for a little sun bathing in front of my house.

    Love and licks,

The Newfs love this weather since it is getting cooler, they are winter dogs. The always hunt for the shady spot no matter what the temp. I love to go sit in the sun and soak up the beautiful warm rays:-)

Bella is a sun worshipper as well. She has been since she was a puppy! I’m just playing catch up as I didn’t get much reading done on our holiday. I love your new blog background 🙂
