Spring finally came with a bang and a boom. Don’t I look beautiful in front of the peonies and the knock-out roses?
Sadly, Mom is not smiling. Her roses have some kind of blight that has destroyed all the leaves, but not the flowers. V and Mom think it is something called Sawflies (aka rose slugs, saw worms), It is ravaging the neighborhood. We thought it was just the knock-out roses, but then we saw it hit the regular roses too. Now we think it is the same pest that has been eating our mugo pines the last few years. Everything looks all dried up and yucky. Mom loves roses (V not so much). Maybe we should pee on them and the larvae will die? That would be better than all the hand picking of larvae needed to get rid of them. Mom thinks it is too late to save any of the bushes this year since they are already gone.
What to do?
Hope you are having a great Wednesday despite our rose slugs.
This is a Wordless Wednesday Blog Hop. Thanks to BlogPaws for the hop. Head over there and see what they are blogging about.
Just another DogDaz morning at the zoo ❤

Those rose leaf killers are not cool. Hand picking sounds gross and inefficient. I hope there’s another cure. The flowers are pretty nonetheless and you make them even prettier, L.

Despair tire is flat, so Mom is sad. (That’s suppose to be a pun)

Ugh that’s terrible. Where I live the Mountain Laurel have been fighting a fungus for a few years, this year I am so pleased to see the bushes flowering like crazy and limited amount of fungus on the leaves. Hopefully the same will hold true for your roses, they will battle and overcome whatever is hurting them. Fingers (and paws) crossed.

I think now that the sawflies larvae has eaten everything, the roses will grow back until the next batch. I like Mt Laurel 🙂

You look lovely. Sorry about the roses, but tell your mom better the leaves than the petals!

New leaves are coming! The flowers looked funny with out them.
