Hello, Charles here. I had a haircut this week and I am super handsome if I must stay so myself. I thought I would share with you a few things that Mom does to make my grooming experience easy. Of course, Sonya is the best groomer in the world so I never give her trouble.
- TOUCH MY PAWS, OFTEN. No dog in his right mind likes his feet touched, so MOM got me used to it but touching my paws often (but not necessarily for a long time). It made it easier for groomers to do my nails.
- BRUSH ME, A LOT. Mom brushes her hair every day to keep the knots out and brushes me as much as possible too, to help me stay mat free.
- CHECK MY EARS. A lot of stuff sticks in my ears, Mom cleans them for me because I can’t.
- CHECK MY NAILS. Since I don’t run in the wild my nails don’t wear down and need clipping.
Grooming me regularly so I stay clean and neat is such a nice thing. Lucky me!

One other benefit to accustoming one’s pets to things like handling and brushing is they are more manageable at the groomers. Especially with cats, groomers may refuse service if your little darling responds to attention with tooth and claw! I suspect an ill-behaved dog would get banished, too. My cats’ groomer notes they are good kitties, helping her brush them out by positioning and repositioning their bodies for her. (“My kitties? They are little brats at home!”)

Here at the Zoo everyone runs for the hills when a brush or comb comes out. Glad your boys are good positioners 😻

Andy is loess thrilled with brushiung than Dougy, but tolerates it if I brush him while I hold him.

Very good tips. My furs are much tinier than yours (plus I run from the brush), but Mom got one of those magical brushing gloves and she brushes me with that a couple of times a week. It feels like petting. I don’t run from that…
