Caturday: 3 On A Tree

Mini is in the house if you are looking for cat #3. Who knew that the Cat Village would be such a big hit? There are more adventures and head battings then I have seen in years. No one seems to go in the hammock at the bottom yet. Mini makes me a little nervous on those small, no-sided, platforms, as she has taken to chasing her tail and then falling off from one to another. Good things cats have great balance. The thing is 7 feet tall.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Caturday: Noel, Queen of the Cat Village

“This is my village, Mini, and I am Queen!”

“Go away silly Nine, I am Queen Noel!”

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Our hearts go out to our friends in Australia who have suffered tremendous loss in the recent fires. So much devastation, so much sadness, so much loss of life. We weep for you and with you.

DogDaz Zoo: New Year Rant and Review

Wow! It is now 2020. My daughter, Peanut, told me the other day (she is 25), that “we will never see the ‘teens’ again in our lifetime” as we move into the twenties. Now, that is a very profound thought. It made me stop and take a pause on all the things that pass me by with little notice. How an instant, or a year or 50, is just a jumble of moments and pictures burned on the memory of my total recall. I think about all the people and the animals that have graced my time. I am so thankful that I have had this platform to document moments and days, and now years, of my Zoo. Maybe, when I no longer have the capability to recall the images in my mind, this blog will be here to remind me of how wonderful those moments were and are. Feel free to visit my Angels page to get a look at the many many many furbabies that have blessed me with their time. I am one lucky ZooKeeper and want to thank you for stopping by,

Caturday: Love

Mini is really good at giving you that adoring look, like you are the most important human on the planet, and there is none greater than you, so why would you pick her up and make her move off of your chair?

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Monday Mischief: Gefilte Fish, Anyone?

Mom would prefer if the Christmas and Hanukkah holiday days didn’t overlapping because she doesn’t get to buy us as many toys. This year she could not resist getting us some very fun stuffies. Can you guess who gets which stuffy? We are still working on toys from holidays past, but Mom doesn’t care, she buys us new stuff anyway. Some people would say that she spoils us, but we think we are just the luckiest rescue zoo in the universe. We can smell the latke’s cooking!

What kind of mischief did you get into today?

A DogDaz Hanukkah Story

Tonight we celebrate the first night of the festival of Hanukkah.

12.16.14

When I walked out of my office, Sofie was playing dreidel all by herself. “But Sofie,” I said, “Hanukkah doesn’t start until tonight.”

I bet you it was Mini Cooper who stole the gelt (candy) and the dreidel (top) from the Hanukkah table in the living room and gave them to Sofie (to get her in trouble).

Sofie was not exactly sure what to do with these new prizes, so she brought them to me (good girl!). Dogs don’t get chocolate gelt in this house!

On the first night of Hanukkah, we like to play the dreidel game. In the case of the dogs, we use bones instead of gelt. But someone seems to always spoil the game by running away with a dreidel and try to eat it.

DogDaz Zoo is sending you light and love this holiday season.

May each day bring you closer to your dreams.

Let the holiday games begin!

Thankful Thursday: We Are Grateful

For each new morning with its light, for rest and shelter of the night, for health and food, for love and friends, for everything Thy goodness sends. — Ralph Waldo Emerson

From our Zoo to yours – Thank you for another year of visiting DogDaz Zoo. I truly appreciate all my visitors and commenters. Some of you have been here for years and feel like old friends. We have been through many animals together. Thank you from the bottom of my paws to the tops of my ears!!

Caturday: Dear Noel – What Can Cats Eat at Thanksgiving

Dear Noel – I know that my humans are planning a big food celebration next week – they call it Thanksgiving. All they ever give me though is dry kibble. How do I get my human to understand that I can have some leftovers too! – Please help. I am Hungry in Hawaii

Dear Hungry – Many humans do not understand a cat’s diet. We are obligate carnivores, which means we have to have MEAT to live. But fat on the other paw can make us sick. In the wild, we would eat about 3 or 4 mice a day (yum), depending on our size. But remind them that we are little creatures and our calories per day should be limited to our size. And, we are each different, so tell your human to ask your Vet, since I am not a medicine cat and don’t know what is right for you.

You can have many wonderful COOKED lean proteins:

  • 1 ounce of cooked TURKEY white meat
  • Skinless chicken (MY FAVORITE)
  • Liver
  • Lean beef
  • Lamb
  • Cooked eggs
  • Cooked salmon/tuna
  • Canned fish

Don’t forget your veggies and grains:

  • Raw Pumpkin/squash, peas, and cucumber
  • Cooked carrots, broccoli, green beans
  • Mashed sweet potato
  • Cooked oatmeal

And your fruit:

  • Bananas
  • Blueberries
  • Watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew (no seeded)
  • Peeled apples

But remind them that you can not eat the following:

  • NO FAT
  • Garlic
  • Onions
  • Coconut Milk
  • Alcohol
  • Coffee or caffeine
  • Grapes / raisins
  • Seeds
  • RAW fish
  • Bread dough
  • Nuts
  • Chocolate
  • Cooked bones
  • Milk
  • Chives
  • Candy / Gum
  • Artificial sweeteners (Especially XYLITOL)

See this Basic guide

Enjoy your Thanksgiving and don’t forget to beg for more! – Noel, the Christmas Cat

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Caturday: Stella’s New Thing

Stella – The Loner

Stells’s new thing lately is to sneak out of her room, whenever the door is left ajar, which it shouldn’t be and hide under my bed across the hall. (To be honest, I know that V thinks she gets lonely in her private master cat suite and leaves the door open for her to explore until, of course, there is a catfight in the hall.) I think Stella thinks it’s funny to go under the bed until another cat comes to check her out and then she freaks out and runs back into her room, hopefully with no other cats trailing behind. Fur does fly around here sometimes. Stella really likes Sofie and Louise, but not Charles, so they are the only other animals that she wants in her space. Ahh the life with a zoo.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!
