It is with great sadness that I tell you about the loss of our grandcat, Hazel, on August 28. She was such a sweetheart. K8 adopted Hazel 3 years ago when she was about 4 years old. She loved to sit in the window and play with her brother, Freddie Purrcury. Her favorite thing was to scare her mother half to death by sitting for hours on the ledge at the top of the second-floor stairwell (with no net).
Sadly, cancer seemed to consume her little body very quickly. May her memory be a blessing and may she continue to purr over the rainbow bridge with the rest of the angels from the extended zoo. Purr on sweet girl, you are missed.

Miss Stella turns 12 years old today. She lives her solitary life of joy and continues to smile and purr and amuse as long as she is not with any other animals. We do love you, Stella.
Stella has lived in her own suite away from all the other animals since she was 4 (a long time now). She was bullying Noel once Mini Cooper came to live with us. Originally we were going to put Noel in the suite to give her a break from the bully, but the vet suggested that it was Stella who maybe wanted to be alone. And she does. Stella has lunch or dinner with a human and watches a lot of HGTV and the cooking channel. We tried Animal Planet but V thought it was too violent for Stella so, home decorating it is.

Louis Pierre Andre the 13th of Edgewood Lipton was my family dog growing up. Everyone wanted a different name for him so that is what it ended up being. AKA – Louie.
I was visiting my sister last week and she had all these pictures of him from the ’60s. I think the story was that a friend of my sister’s owned a pizza parlor and they had this French poodle that they did not want. Our dog, Freya had just passed away (she got hit by a car), so these people gave Louie to us. Whether any of that is true (except the losing Freya part which I was there for), I do not know. I was maybe 5 or 6 years old.
My Mom had trained him to sit on his haunches and beg. It was a cute move and he enjoyed being the dancing happy center of attention (even though it does not look that way in this picture).
I am the little one in this picture (7 years old) with my stuffed cat. I think my sister will kill me when she sees that I posted this. Of course, she is holding Louie. He lived a long happy life and passed away while I was in college, so he must have been 16+.
I am thankful for such wonderful memories.

Where has the summer gone? Here it is mid-August, the DOGDAZ of Summer, so they say, and we have hardly gotten anything we wanted to accomplished. Oh well! Maybe that is the way it was supposed to be. I think I will just lie here on Jolie’s new bed and take an afternoon nap. Hello. I know that we have not posted in a while. Losing Charles in June took all the wind out of my sails. And of course, the May left total knee replacement has slowed me down. And just when I thought I might start going out, I caught COVID.
Jolie misses her partner in crime and keeps looking for the other dog. Mini Cooper would like to be that ‘other dog’ but Jolie looks at her, as Mini licks Jojo’s ears, as if she is saying ‘You are not a dog!’
Noel, being 16 1/2, is getting more and more demented and we are starting to really have to work with her. She is catsinging all night and it is making me crazy.
Stella, is Stella, since she lives in her own world, so nothing really phases her, thank goodness.
We will have more adventure in the future but for right now, I just have to heal and right myself. Keep checking because the zoo is only temporarily on hiatus.

Charles, the mugwump (aka Charlie or Mr. Handsome), crossed over the rainbow bridge to the big meadow in the sky last Wednesday, June 28. Sadly, age took him from us. He was a trooper until the end. He would have been 15 on July 15th. We are heartbroken and miss him deeply.
Charles recused us on December 14, 2016. He was already 8 years old and we were his 5th home. You can read his gotcha day story HERE. Actually, you can read the many blogs about Charles just by going to the right-side SEARCH panel on the blog and typing ‘Charles.’ Tons of stories will come up.
Though he was 8 when he joined us he was with us for 7 wonderful years. I hope you will enjoy the retrospective from day one in the pictures below: From Dec 14, 2016 to June 28, 2023.

This is the last video of Charles the morning of June 28. I kind of think of it as his way of gently marching through the meadow to the land of no pain, no blindness, where he can hear the birds once again.

A cat’s life is just so purrfect. Sleep 18 to 20 hours of the day and eat or bathe the rest of the time. I have said it before and I will say it again, I want to come back as Noel.

Baby Lavender
Lavee & Bro Glitch
You might recall that my daughter, Peanut, has a smokey gray cat with Cerebral Hyperplasia (CH), named Glitch. He is now 2 years old. Well, Peanut now lives with ‘AA’ who has a cat named Eevee; he’s a wonderful Maine Coon mix who is also about 2. Glitch and Eevee just instantly loved each other. What an odd thing. I have never seen two cats become best friends within 10 days of meeting each other.
Then, Peanut and AA added a 2 lb bundle of mischief, named Lavender. She is of course pushing her two big brothers around. What a trio these three grand cats make. I can’t wait to see their future adventures. Eevee was giving Lavender a bath and then fell asleep on her. Too funny.

I must say that I have the best fur-nurses that anyone could ask for and a really good human one too. Please take care of your knees because replacing one is not a fun experience. They say that total knee replacement is one of the hardest surgery recoveries and I will agree with that. Mini Cooper and Jolie were very careful when on my lap but they always want to be ‘on’ me (even now while I am typing this from my recliner).
I am by no means done with healing, it takes months to a year, but now that I can walk almost a block with my cane outside, I am hoping this month to get back to a short Jolie walk. Let me get a full block first (and clearance from my Physical Therapist).
I plan to keep my once-a-week-only posts going because I am still very tired, but hope to return to my full-time work next week if all goes well.
