Black and White Sunday: Golden Slumbers

I find it so calming to watch animals sleep. They seem to sleep with such abandon. The animals always seem to be sleeping in weird and different places in the house. I think I was drying a rug on top of the washing machine and he decided it was comfy.

Golden slumbers kiss your eyes,
Smiles awake you when you rise;
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

Care is heavy, therefore sleep you,
You are care, and care must keep you;
Sleep, pretty wantons, do not cry,
And I will sing a lullaby,
Rock them, rock them, lullaby.

‘Golden Slumbers’ is a lullaby from Thomas Dekker’s 1603 play Patient Grissel, written with Henry Chettle and William Haughton. You may recognize it because The Beatles used it in their song of the same name on their Abbey Road album.

Caturday: Can You Stop For A Moment, Stella?

Trying to capture a picture of Stella is like trying to get a good shot of lightning in the sky.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Caturday: Nine is Sweet on Lulu

Nine has always been sweet on Louise. Here is a snap from 2014 where he is trying to play with her. 6 years later and he still gives her kisses and love and tries to get her to engage. This picture could have been taken yesterday (Louise actually has that collar right now too) because he is still poking at her.

DogDaz Zoo: Nine is 9!

Mr. Nine, our 9th cat, is 9 years young today. He is a wonderful Tomcat. He loves to butt heads and kiss faces with you. Lately, he is very sweet on Louise and likes to kiss on her too. His favorite pass time is stacking the cave crickets in the laundry room when he is not looking down on you from the rafters. A good-natured cat, he rarely gets into to much trouble.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Big Boy!!

Caturday: Dog Beds

The interesting thing about the cats always taking over the dog beds is that they always lay exactly in the middle. Louise is my biggest dog bed user so she is very often being displaced by one cat or another. Amazingly, I even found Noel sleeping in Louise’s office bed (I have never seen any cat on there). The good news is that Louise is very accommodating to the cats and will actually lay on the floor next to them and allow them to have her bed.

Would you sleep on a dog’s bed? Maybe those little cat beds are too small.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Caturday: Can Cat’s Be Proud?

“I AM NINE, HEAR ME ROAR!”

Mr. Nine has decided that, at least for today, he will be king of the castle. I do think that Queen Noel will not let him bask in that status for too long. Ah, the fur that is flying around this tree is so amusing. There is a lot of good-hearted gymnastics and batting going on, but no cats have been harmed in the process (except maybe someone’s pride).

Which brings up the question ‘do cats feel pride?’ It is funny because when one of the cats pushes everyone else off the tree, or on to a lower level, there seems to be a kind of gloating that goes on, but maybe that is my anthropomorphizing what is happening. I’ve read a bunch of articles about dog emotions, but very little about cats. What do you think? Do cats feel things like pride, shame, and guilt?

Caturday: The Hole

The curtains in the cat window are PURRFECT for viewing back into the kitchen when closed. Noel loves to peer at me wondering what is next on the dinner menu. Do you have a favorite human viewing spot?

Caturday: Paws

These are Noel paws from 5 years ago. Do cat paws age like people paws do?

Caturday: 3 On A Tree

Mini is in the house if you are looking for cat #3. Who knew that the Cat Village would be such a big hit? There are more adventures and head battings then I have seen in years. No one seems to go in the hammock at the bottom yet. Mini makes me a little nervous on those small, no-sided, platforms, as she has taken to chasing her tail and then falling off from one to another. Good things cats have great balance. The thing is 7 feet tall.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Monday Mischief: December 2019 Review

How quickly the month flew. Peanut came to visit often because she missed all the furries; I had eye surgery (all good); there was a great deal of cat todo once I built the new Cat Village for holiday, and; we had a rare December 30th Rainbow.

Did you get fun stuff for the holiday?

What kind of mischief did you get into last month?

Come back on Wednesday and we will have the whole DogDaz Year in Review.
