7.9.12 Those Darn Ducks
Duckie and Luckie (2 local ducks) were sunning on the dock. Lulu saw them first and decided to give chase. The ducks flew into the water just out of easy dog reach. Sofie started to swim towards them, but decided that maybe it wasn’t the best idea. I don’t let the dogs in the river often because of concern for bacteria etc., but at 110 degrees in the shade I figure they really needed the swim. Our daily walks are getting shorter and shorter and earlier and earlier because of the heat wave. This was a nice adventure.
Ducks are kind of funny creatures. They appear to be smart enough to stay safe but they sure are funny and like to tease the dogs. I have not seen any ducklings yet, which I usually do by now, so I am concerned if the heat is even effecting them.

5.25.12 The Duck and the Green Pool
We opened the pool last weekend, and for those of you who do not know swimming pools, it usually opens a nice algae green color. Some years the water that sits in the pool all winter has even been a lovely shade of black. It takes me about a week to clear it and get it to nice swimming blue. Since it is spring in the Mid-Atlantic, the ducks have come to roost and are very happy that I have provided them a lovely swimming hole. I was not terribly happy to see Mr. Duck getting ready for a swim this morning. I let the dogs out, but they can not get to the pool area, so all they did was bark. Mr. Duck could not have cared less, he stood there by the pool for a really long time anyway with the dogs barking safely outside the pool gate. I expect Mrs. Duck will be back with him soon; when he finds her. There is a lot of ‘that’ going on under my bushes right now; ducks finding their spring mates. Every year they come back and party in the yard. Then they have their ducklings under my bushes and waddle them down the road to the river. The cycle continues. That makes me so happy. But, I do not like the ducks in the pool or them leaving ‘presents’ on the edge.

1.27.12 5:11: Duck!!!!
I thought that maybe if I blogged about something summerish, I could virtually escape the winter cold and feel warm again. Well, every spring the ducks decide to come and have their families under my bushes. For years I have named the pairs, Harold & Maude, Harry & Sally, Bonnie & Clyde, and it seems like they come back year after year, and their children then come too. Well, last year Maude decided instead of teaching the kids to swim in the river down the street, she would teach them in my pool. Only problem is that they were all to small to get out and they could not walk up the ladder or the steps.
So, after about an hour of my whole family trying to figure out what to do, with floats, and surf boards, and whatevers, I finally made a successful exit ramp for the little family. Can you believe that they did not even say ‘good bye.’ They just waddled after Mom down the street to the river.
Just another DogDaz afternoon at our house. ❤
