Comfort comes in many flavors. For Charlie, it is snuggling on a blanket on top of a pillow on the couch, preferably where Mini Cooper was sleeping last.

For Lulu, it is definitely on a dog bed, preferably in the same room as Mommy.

For Sofie (aka SodaPop), it is basically anywhere there is a floor, preferably with some toy that she can nibble while she falls asleep. What is your comfort spot?

The interesting thing about the cats always taking over the dog beds is that they always lay exactly in the middle. Louise is my biggest dog bed user so she is very often being displaced by one cat or another. Amazingly, I even found Noel sleeping in Louise’s office bed (I have never seen any cat on there). The good news is that Louise is very accommodating to the cats and will actually lay on the floor next to them and allow them to have her bed.

Would you sleep on a dog’s bed? Maybe those little cat beds are too small.
I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Here is yet another in the series of ‘this cannot be comfortable!’ I really don’t try to overthink why the animals do what they do but, this just can’t be comfortable, Sofie.
Feel free to add your pictures to the series of ‘this cannot be comfortable’ in the comments.

These Ground Hogs are such funny weather predicting creatures. They have names like woodchuck, land-beaver, and whistle-pig. Our regional prognosticator is named Punxsutawney Phil. Phil is known as the “Seer of Seers,” the “Prognosticator of Prognosticators” and the “Most Photographed Pennsylvanian.” People in Pennsylvania dress up in top hats and tails and have this whole big event each year to see if we are going to have an early spring or late winter. Leave it to a rodent to let us know.

Groundhog day actually designates the middle point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. There are 6 more weeks until the Vernal Equinox, which marks the beginning of spring. No matter what Phil says – SPRING IS COMING!!!!! Make way for crocus and daffodils.

“I AM NINE, HEAR ME ROAR!”

Mr. Nine has decided that, at least for today, he will be king of the castle. I do think that Queen Noel will not let him bask in that status for too long. Ah, the fur that is flying around this tree is so amusing. There is a lot of good-hearted gymnastics and batting going on, but no cats have been harmed in the process (except maybe someone’s pride).
Which brings up the question ‘do cats feel pride?’ It is funny because when one of the cats pushes everyone else off the tree, or on to a lower level, there seems to be a kind of gloating that goes on, but maybe that is my anthropomorphizing what is happening. I’ve read a bunch of articles about dog emotions, but very little about cats. What do you think? Do cats feel things like pride, shame, and guilt?

Oh my, how exhausting to be a dog at the DogDaz Zoo! Today, Charles got a haircut (and a pedicure). Sonya really knows how to make him look beautiful. Little dogs seem to get scruffy looking so quickly. Anyway, what an event it must have been because he came home, had dinner, and immediately went to sleep in Mini Cooper’s spot on the couch (up on a bunch of pillows).
When I get a haircut and pedicure, I usually want to get dressed up and go out to dinner. How about you?

In the annals of ‘That Cannot Be Comfortable,’ I want to add these pictures this week. Sofie is always laying with her head on the leg of the kitchen table. Really? That just can’t be comfortable.

And Louise! I keep buying bigger and bigger beds, yet she always lies with her head on the floor. Now really, Lulu Belle, that cannot be comfortable! (Please ignore my messy office, and yes, that is a giant box of dog toys :-))

The curtains in the cat window are PURRFECT for viewing back into the kitchen when closed. Noel loves to peer at me wondering what is next on the dinner menu. Do you have a favorite human viewing spot?

So far this year the snow events have been very light to non-existent. The wind, however, is another story. Sofie, and now Charles, are barking at the slightest rustling of the trees. Today it actually sounds like a small freight train coming through the yard. I am not sure when real winter is coming to the Mid-Atlantic this year, but February and March are usually our worst months, so time will tell.
Stay dry and warm.
