Monday Mischief: That Can’t Be Comfortable

In the annals of ‘That Cannot Be Comfortable,’ I want to add these pictures this week. Sofie is always laying with her head on the leg of the kitchen table. Really? That just can’t be comfortable.

And Louise! I keep buying bigger and bigger beds, yet she always lies with her head on the floor. Now really, Lulu Belle, that cannot be comfortable! (Please ignore my messy office, and yes, that is a giant box of dog toys :-))

Monday Mischief: Getting Comfy

We all have different ways to settle down before we take a nap. Louise loves to toss her ears and roll a little to find just that right spot on the bed. Sometimes she covers her eyes with her paws, I am thinking to keep the light out.

Do you have a special ritual to get comfy?

Monday Mischief: December 2019 Review

How quickly the month flew. Peanut came to visit often because she missed all the furries; I had eye surgery (all good); there was a great deal of cat todo once I built the new Cat Village for holiday, and; we had a rare December 30th Rainbow.

Did you get fun stuff for the holiday?

What kind of mischief did you get into last month?

Come back on Wednesday and we will have the whole DogDaz Year in Review.

Monday Mischief: Gefilte Fish, Anyone?

Mom would prefer if the Christmas and Hanukkah holiday days didn’t overlapping because she doesn’t get to buy us as many toys. This year she could not resist getting us some very fun stuffies. Can you guess who gets which stuffy? We are still working on toys from holidays past, but Mom doesn’t care, she buys us new stuff anyway. Some people would say that she spoils us, but we think we are just the luckiest rescue zoo in the universe. We can smell the latke’s cooking!

Monday Mischief: November In Review

From the moment the month began I knew we were in for a mixture of rain and wind and wild antics. We got through to Thanksgiving without much of a mess. Now we are looking forward to Santa Paws in just a few short weeks. How did your month go?

Monday Mischief: CRUNCH Time = Allergy Time

Charles here. I want to talk to you about my 2 silly sisters who for some strange reason, that I cannot understand, go out in the cold air and crunch in the fall leaves. Don’t they realize that it is much better just to run out in the back for 2 seconds and pee than to go for a long walk with Mom and have to deal with coats and leashes and scary sounds, like the crunch crunch crunch of dead leaves? Sometimes I think they are just ridiculous.

Wouldn’t you rather stay in where it is warm?

And these dead leaves are making me itch! Mom has me on a tablet of allergy medicine, but I don’t think it is helping. Because I am so little, she thinks I get the worst of the dead stuff directly on my skin and up my nose. People think of dog allergies and allergic reactions mostly in the spring (I get those too) but for me, the dead leaves that are all over the ground in the fall, which get moldy and are full of dying insects as well as pollen, are making me wheeze. All these leaves are kind of hard to avoid when you are a little, but Mom gave me a bath and tries to towel me off when I come inside after my 2 seconds in the yard (to keep the stuff off my fur). Does the fall effect you?

Monday Mischief: October Review

October was a wild weather month; we went from hot summer-like days to a Halloween freeze. The animals like the cooler weather but not the rainy days. I think they have gotten very used to it being dry day after day.

Special appearance by my new grandcat, Hazel. See if you can spot her?

The cats are playing with the cave/spider crickets (we call them sprikets) that appear out of nowhere as soon as the temperature drops. They are rather mean to them (like pulling off their legs) so I didn’t want to include in the video, but you get the idea.

Monday Mischief: Alas, Poor Yorick, He Was Allergic

No animals were hurt in the making of this Halloween murder scene.

We have so much fun at Halloween. Maybe because it is just a fun time, no need to cook and bake and worry about family or presents or going to visit people. Here at the zoo, we love the fall and everything that comes with it. Though it is the dying off of the crops and the going to sleep of the plants and the earth, it is a magic time for us. We really enjoy being wrapped in layers and having a crackling fire to warm our bones. Though the cold has started to affect us all, because we are not puppies anymore, it still holds a freshness that makes us feel alive.

Harvest time makes me feel thankful for having food on my table and being able to provide for my family; flesh and fur and fins.  Have you heard about the Teal Pumpkin Project? It helps raise awareness for people who have food allergies (like me) so that everyone can partake in Halloween. Have you ever thought about the child with peanut or milk allergies who can’t participate? Please think about having toys or alternative treats. If you want more information about the Teal Pumpkin Project go to FARE – Food Allergy Research & Education. We give out eyeballs and spiders and other fun things in a separate bucket from regular candy. I give the goblins a choice when they come to the door.

We are ready for mischief – Are you?
