Charles is a big knee-spooner. He gets in the turn of your knees and hangs on for dear life. It doesn’t matter if Mini Cooper or Nine wants the spot. The knees are his. Sometimes I do find Mini and Charles cuddling at the foot of the bed, so he obviously does move at some point.
First is it is 75 degrees then it is snowing. This is the craziest winter ever. Louise and Charles soak up every sun ray they can get. This must be a black dog thing because blond Sofie is hiding in the shade and it isn’t even hot out yet.
Mom had her long-Janes (thermal underwear) on because it was 18 degrees F (-8 C) out, but Mother Nature has been fooling us with warm days and nights all winter. February was the warmest month ever in the Mid-Atlantic and the weather people say this is the earliest spring in over 100 years. The cherry blossoms are out, and they are predicting the National cherry blossoms (in Washington DC – 50 miles away) will peak around March 14 (usually they peak in April). That is just crazy!
Mom is trying to teach Charles how to sit with us for her famous Picture Moments. He does not listen to any commands and while we sit so beautifully and wait for her (applause and treats for Louise and me), he goes and goes and goes. Mom just keeps picking him up and putting him in between us until she can get a shot of all 3 of us together. Maybe by next Xmas he will get what he is supposed to do.
Forsythia, azalea, daffodils, crocus, cherry blossom, and hellebore. Even the maples are budding. Oh my! Official spring is still 3 weeks away.
What kind of mischief did you get into today? – Sofie Bear (the poser)
Louise has been knee begging forever. That is when she quietly places her head on your leg and opens her big brown eyes really wide to say “please!” This particular picture, looking down from where I am seated, is of her daily (always around 3:30 PM) begging to go for a walk. She gets tired of me sitting at my desk and decides it is time for me to get up and be with her. If I don’t respond she starts knocking my hand up when I am trying to ‘mouse.’ The funny thing is that Squash before her used to do this same thing. He would decide it was time for an afternoon walk and he would push my hand away from the keyboard with his big furry head. Once he passed over the rainbow bridge, Louise started doing this. She pushes my hand, but she is more into placing her head or paws on my leg.
“I wish I could accommodate, but dogs are not on my work schedule until 4:30, Miss Louise. You should know that after 7 years at the Zoo. I do love to look into those beautiful brown eyes, however, so don’t go too far.”
We’re trying to teach Charles about the water and the docks. Not sure yet that he feels safe.
Do you see the ducks to the left of Sofie in the water. Luckily they were far enough out that the dogs didn’t try to swim on this cold day. And, I am not sure what the little man will do since the adult ducks are almost as big as he is.
Charles also got his first good whiff of the crab cages. Oh, spring will be interesting. I just worry about the Osprey and this 15 lb edible.
Mom made us watch the Stupid Super Bowl last week. Well, first we watched the Kitty Bowl and then the Puppy Bowl. Noel thought that the half time show was the best ever, She was totally into Lady Gaga flying down from the roof and swinging around on ropes.
Mom made her ‘soon to be’ famous, red lentil vegan chili. It seemed like the purrfect food for football.
Charles (and flat Rudolph) slept through most of the second half. He figured the game was over after seeing the score at half time and decided there was nothing more to watch. Sorry, Charlie, you missed all the excitement. Maybe he is more a basketball kind of guy?
The dogs were out on a play date the other day. Even the new little one who smells like a dog but plays like a cat. So I decided that Mom must be lonely in her office all by herself. At first I sneaked behind the computer and peaked out to see if it was OK to be helping. When I realized it was cool, I got brave and took a nap on Mom’s pile of papers. Mom sure does have paper everywhere when she is working. I even took over her chair when she went to answer the door. Oh Drat! The dogs are back already! There goes my new job.- Mini Cooper, the office helper (aka paper weight)
Mommy has been eating vegan marshmallows before bed lately. She said that I am not supposed to tell anyone.
I really like marshmallows. They make me happy. So happy that I smile like I used to when I was young. Mom cannot resist giving me a marshmallow if I smile at her.
Mom and I ate the last marshmallow the other night. 😦 I am sad. Mom is sad. No more marshmallow smiles.
At least until she goes to the store and buys some more. Do you have a late night snack?
We all went down to the river today. Mom figured it was time to show Charles our favorite spot by the tree at the end of the peninsula. Since he is new to the family and we don’t know his water manners, she was afraid he might try to jump in the river, so he had to stay on his lead while we ran around. I don’t think he liked walking on the floating dock. I do admit it is weird under foot until you get used to it. He definitely like the old tree (which is Louise’s favorite). As soon as we got home, Charles and Louise sacked out and took a long nap on Mom’s bed. Me, I stay on the floor and nap. Someone has to supervise the cats. – Brought to you by reporter extraordinaire – Sofie Bear
