I can not find the author of this piece but it looks like so much fun that I wanted to share it. How different my life would be if I lived like someone left the gate open. My initial thought is, “Wow, that would be so cool!” To run wild and do what ever you want. But then the grown up responsible me steps in. ‘The reason I have the gates are to keep the animals safe. I don’t think it is safe to leave the gate open (I’m sure I am missing the point?). My job is to keep the dogs from the world of cars and foxes that could hurt or even kill them. Does the picture mean live your life with abandon? With no worries? I think dogs live their lives in the moment. Around here, that moment is almost always safe and secure. I love to watch Louise run laps around the property as fast as she can – Zoom zoom Zoom. When you have a fearful dog like Lulu, to see her fully engaged in something that gives her pure joy, like her running at full hound speed, is just such pleasure to watch. When I open the back door and release the dogs, zoom, they both run with such zeal across the yard to catch whatever squirrel made the mistake of being on the ground at that time. Maybe the quote should say “Live… like someone made sure the gate was closed.” Just another DogDay morning at my house. ❤

This is great! I think “live like someone made sure the gate is closed” is a good saying when it comes to pups!!! We always make sure ours is closed because our dogs love running all over the perimeter of the yard when we let them out too.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers for Chelsea during this time! We all really appreciate it 🙂

I wish someone would leave the gate open for me. Oh well, if the gate isn’t open – jump the fence. No person, I don’t want to go back in the house.

I just dig under any fence I can find and I never want to go go back in the house, never ever, unless there is food, then maybe…. Sofie Bear of DogDaz

Great post and very thought provoking. We all need boundaries – sometimes for safety and sometimes to keep within the law and sometimes to keep things out.
I love your “Zoom zoom Zoom” description!

Thanks Bassa. We really do go ‘zoom zoom zoom,’ maybe mommy could buy a video camera someday and you can hear it. – Lulu

Lulu doesn’t smile often, so it is great when I catch that once a day when it slips. – DogDaz

The gates around here are not only closed they are locked because…. I got out the gate a couple of times and now Mumsy makes sure I don’t do that again. She wants me to be safe and I have a large yard to run and play in so I don’t mind not getting out. Hugs and nose kisses
