Lulu thinks that sitting in the sun is fun. I really do not understand why a black dog loves to lie in the sun, but she does.
She has a few favorite spots on the deck and she would stay there all day, if I let her. I worry that she will get sun burned. Do dogs get sun burned? Sofie has a really thick coat, so I only worry about her nose, but Lulu has a thin single coat and she has pink skin, so I worry. I’m not a sun worshiper, so I just don’t get it.
Just another dogdaz morning at the zoo ❤

They’re just getting their vitamin D! My little black min pin is a sun worshiper, and so is the thick-coated foster husky mix. I can’t believe she doesn’t overheat.

Our neighbors dog is Lulu and is black too. We also have a black lab mix who loves to lay in the sun even on the hottest days then comes to the door acting as if she will die (then why silly do you lay in the sun).

I think the paler the colour the more likely the sunburn but the fur is protective.

My dogs used to do this too; they are/were blonde lab chows. Maybe it’s a lab thing? Anyway, my now only dog doesn’t do this anymore. I think now she’s 14, the heat gets to her more quickly.

I think dogs can get sunburns. My Henry loves sitting on the patio in the sun. He usually lasts about half an hour, though, before he wants to come back inside.

We’re black dogs and we lie in the sun everyday usually for at least an hour. We’ve never been burned but our coats are thicker than Lulu. We love to catch rays!

Yes, thin coated dogs can get sun burned. They actually make sunscreen for dogs. I have sun burned my nose where the white stripe is a couple of times. I also has an adopted brother who is Hairless….Mommy really has to watch him…she doesn’t let him stay out to long….but he loves to sun bathe and gets upset when mommy brings him in the house. Sometimes she lets him stay out longer if he has his shirt on. BOL

Lulu looks like she is enjoying herself! I don’t like sitting in the sun. I get too hot. I prefer to lie on the stone floor of the bathroom – deliciously cool!

Squash E Bear was just like you. His favorite place was the cool floor in the laundry room or kitchen. All that hair!
