Thanks Basil, if only the people that really need it were watching.

Mom said she is so silly. She doesn’t even think when a doggie approaches her she just bends to pet. No common sence to be afraid. She doesn’t herself approach the doggie though out of respect. 🙂

Well if the dog approaches, though you are still taking a chance it could bite, it is making the first move, which most probably is ok. People always want to run up and pet my reactive dogs, that is not ok. Be safe.

That is why I said she is silly (stupid isn’t nice) Mom has been around doggies all her life so she pays attention to their demeanor. It isn’t fool proof and she knows the risk but it is only polite and safe to ask to pet a dog before hand. Because honestly my doggies most likely will bite if they don’t know you. Plus it is just good manners and you never know if it is a working dog.

Oh Easy, do you know how to silkscreen? I would wear it too. What a great idea.

maybe the copy-shop guy has an idea and he could make a transfer-thingy?

An always important reminder. I was happily surprised when a kid in my neighborhood politely asked if she could say hello to the dogs. The message is definitely getting out there.

Such a great tip and I’m guilty of it. It’s like I have blinders on for the dog I want to pet and can’t think of anything else. Haha! I really need to stop that…
On the flip-side of that, anytime someone asks to pet my dog I always make sure to thank them for asking first.

I thank them too and many times I tell them they can’t (which upsets them). I have to remember that all dogs, and cats, are not my friend when I am out also.

Good advice. Mom gets so mad when she has all three of us walking on leash and another dog on leash comes our way. The owners say, don’t worry he is friendly and starts heading right for us. Mom always has to say, we aren’t always friendly, please keep your dog away. Just the leashes getting tangled is a nightmare if we have another dog to deal with but I don’t like bigger dogs much, Katie can be touchy on days when her arthritis is flaring up, but I think people assume if you have more than one dog, all the dogs must love dogs.

Emma – You are so right. Even dog people are stupid about dogs. I am amazed how insulted people get when Sofie, who is off leash, ignores them, and when I tell them to please not approach Louise (on a tight leash) because she is reactive. Humans! They just don’t get animals, do they. – DogDaz Mom
