Noel’s wish for her birthday is just to sleep wherever and when ever she can.

But when not sleeping, she is amusing us with her antics.

Happy 11th birthday, Noel. You bring us great joy and happiness.
I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Mom got a gluten free cupcake for her birthday. It sure looks like cardboard to us. V says everything Mom eats is cardboard anyway (because she is gluten and dairy free and does not eat meat) but we think Mom’s food is pretty good since we eat simple too (and she shares lots of veggies and fruit with us).
We are going to throw a party for Mom. Shhhh… don’t tell her. She said she is feeling old this birthday, so we thought we would throw her a little surprise to make her smile. Noel, the Christmas cat, suggested we all pee on Mom’s newspaper but we dogs can come up with something better than that (right Sofie and Charles?). Maybe we can shred some of our toys and throw the stuffing around the living room as decorations? She would surely like that. What do you think we should do?
Happy Birthday, Mom! We love you – Louise, Sofie Bear, Charles,
Noel, Nine, Stella, and Mini Cooper.

Though I cover my bed with a sheet every morning and tuck it in around my pillows, Louise has found a way to undo everything and settle in for her afternoon naps. Black hair everywhere!!!!

Though February usually is the coldest month in the mid-Atlantic, it was 65 degrees many days (welcome to Maryland). January turned out to be the real freezer this year with January 5th being 5 below zero Fahrenheit. That is just too cold for woman or beast. We only take short walks on days like that. There were a few days, mostly with ice and sleet, that I just couldn’t do it at all.
The chart below, which I found on PetPlan.com, came in handy when I was trying to figure out if it was OK for the dogs to be outside and for how long. I never really thought about it much for the big dogs, but with the little guy (15 to 18 lbs) I guess I have to be more careful. The chart says even under 40 degrees could potentially be harmful to a little dog. I think he is heartier than that.
What do you think? At what temperature do you only run out to do your business and come right back in?

Laying down on a Sunday afternoon.
I am never alone.
Not that I would ever want to be.
Well… maybe…. sometimes.
If you are in the US, remember to set your clocks ahead 1 hour as of 2 AM March 11.
And while you are at it, change your smoke detector batteries.

Stella is our Mackerel Tabby. I never heard that description before. Good to know.
A mackerel tabby has narrow stripes that run in parallel down its sides. This is what some people refer to as a “tiger cat.” The body has narrow stripes running down the sides in a vertical pattern.
Ideally the stripes are non-broken lines; evenly spaced. They branch out from one stripe that runs along the top of the cat’s back down the spine, resembling fish skeleton — which is why the term “mackerel” is used to describe it. According to Catster

“Oy Vey” or “Oy Vey Ist Mir” is a Yiddish exclamation meaning “Woe is me!”
Isn’t that so Sofie?
There are no words for the depths of her despair sometimes (for no reason other than she is Sofie).

It was about 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The big dogs and I went down to the river (it is way too cold for the little guy to be out long). We were going crazy cooped up in the house because of the weather.
Leave it to Sofie to find a blue crab claw hiding in the bushes. She thought she was going to have it for lunch. Though blue crabs are in the Chesapeake Bay (and my tributary the Magothy River) year round, I don’t think this crab was a recent catch.
We are blessed to live in such a beautiful place.
