This was Sofie circa 2014 about the same time of year. The river looks the same but the bulkhead is now natural shoreline. Though it is humid and still warm many days, the nights are getting cooler and the fall rains have moved in. I am sure next week we will see very high water from Hurricane Florence (named after my Mom). It has been many years since Hurricane Isabel had a 7-foot surge and wiped out the playground and dock. I wonder what Florence might bring? We are seeing unprecedented changes year after year in water level. Who knew that weather would become it’s own TV channel and that we would watch it and listen to it endlessly.

Sofie is always leaning or resting her head on something. I hate when it is the leg of my office chair because if when I forget she is there I hear a big yelp. This dog definitely leans against odd things.

I guess Nine got tired of the fluffy cat balls in the hall and has started playing with the dogs’ tennis balls.

The family did the annual summer migration to Sunset Beach, North Carolina, without the zoo. The dogs went to summer camp at Miss Sonya’s and the kitties stayed put with Sonya visiting everyday. I don’t know how to vacation without interacting with animals, so I seem to spend time seeking out the company of strange furries; like this cat that is at the flea market every year. Can you believe that this lady was wearing her Schnauzer on a hot day? We learned that Boyten Spaniels are the state dog of NC, though we met this one jet skiing in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. And we met a cute not-Louise black dog at the coffee shop. The jellyfish were stinging and we had to use too much vinegar one day for the pain, but the weather was extra special nice.
The pups were tremendously happy when we all returned home. Kisses and smiles all around. The cats… well you know they ignored us for at least 10 minutes, and then Mini had to tell us all about her week.

What a perfect day for the 3 DogDaz beauties to return from vacation because someone decided it is NATIONAL DOG DAY! We thought that every day was DOGDAZ (d-aw-ga-d-aye-za). Fall is in the air this week, summer is winding down, kids are heading back to school, and sadly, the pool is full of leaves. The zoo is as busy as ever and we plan on a full schedule of blogging about our antics. We hope you had a nice summer break and are ready to start taking longer walks in cooler temperatures. We know that Sofie and Charles are. Louise has been walking no matter how hot it is, but those fluff balls, no way they are going out in the heat and humidity. Bark Out Loud. Looking forward to fall.
