Love is a funny thing: you can’t see it, you just feel it.
I love Louise and Louise loves me.
I know by the way she wakes me up in the morning (by walking on me and licking my face);
how she reacts when I come home from somewhere (with crazy tail wags);
the way she looks at me with those brown eyes (so soulful and adoring);
how she relaxes when I am near.
Some scientists say that animals don’t really love, that what we see is just an attachment or bond to the owner.
But I say that isn’t true!! I think animals love – don’t you?

Noel, the Christmas cat, is a mess. She seems to always have mudge in her eyes and food all over her face and never is able to get clean. I just love this silly girl.

Ever since Louise got sick in the fall she has become a bed hog. When you find yourself sleeping horizontally across the pillows because you can’t stretch your legs out because the dog has taken up most of the bed, you know that your dog is a BED HOG. I am going to start a movement called TAKE BACK THE BED! I am not sure I will win though.

The first Sunday of 2019. All is quiet at the Zoo. Sofie is watching the world go by. The weather has been weirdly mild for January. But wait, this is the mid-Atlantic, so tomorrow it may be freezing and snow. Sofie has taken to sitting on the bench lately. Maybe it is a good vantage point to catch squirrels? Maybe it allows her to see over the fence down the street? I never see Louise up there and I am not sure Charles even knows the bench exists (Bark Out Loud). Funny how different dogs prefer different places around the yard and the house. Over the years, this spot seems to be a Sofie favorite. Solemn contemplation for the coming year? I am just happy she is quiet for a moment. Have a wonderful first Black & White Sunday of the year!

It has been 2 years this week that Charles has lived with us.
What an incredible addition he is. Little and mightly.
We are glad that we GOTCHA, lil’ man.

Puppy Louise, about 8 years ago, helping us select a Christmas tree.
And yes, the tree actually fit in the trunk of the Prius.

Not sure if Charles was looking for reassurance from Sofie, or if he had a question that he wanted to be answered. The girls are used to Mom’s ‘Kodak’ moments of making them sit and stay in one location, Charles, on the other hand, doesn’t get the concept. Sometimes I wonder if people just don’t train little dogs because they are easy to pull around. Being his 5th (and last) owner, and maybe because he is 10 1/2 years old, I find it very difficult to get him to cooperate. Stay tuned on Wednesday for a full post of picture fails. Mom made us wait on the landing while she gave candy and prizes to the little goblins that came to the house last week on Halloween. We were surprisingly good and patient. We usually bark at every little noise and person, but for some reason, we decided to take a break this year. Maybe it was the very scary stick clown that Mommy put in front of us to keep us in line. What is it about clowns? Humans have a funny thing about them. I am not sure that we dogs find them as scary as humans do, but they are pretty weird looking. Maybe Mommy should do a clown test and see if the scary stick clown really did keep us in line. We are not going to let her know either way. Who’s afraid of a big scary stick? Not us!
