Last week it was summer and this weekend it turned to true fall. No longer does it seem like we get 4 seasons, now only 2. Fall was always Squash E Bears perfect time. His winter coat would start to bloom and he really looked like the perfect cuddle bear. Gosh, I miss that dog every day. I do love the current pack but there was something about Squash that even made people stop their cars in the middle of the street and ask about him. It was not really how he looked, though he was a formidable giant ball of fluff, he exuded this gentle energy that could be felt all around. Fall is my favorite season. I love the colors, the crisp air, the smell of cider and pumpkin. I love how the animals start to gather all their hordes of food for winter. The smell of wood fires. Oh my, I think I need to go make an apple pie. What do you love most about fall?

Black and White Sunday: Fall Sun
Charles loves to lie on the deck in the warm fall sun. I think he would stay there all day if I let him.

Wordless Wednesday: No Room
I must be crazy to be pushed out of my own bed by these two mongrels. Pretty soon they are going to start picking what TV shows I watch at night. Bark Out Loud!

Monday Mischief: Taking Care of Grammie
Charles is not a therapy dog, but he sure does make Grammie feel good. She is 93 and lives in an assisted living community. Charles is a little timid when we first get into the building but he gets over it. He rarely goes to many places without the other dogs, and the building has this weird pattern of carpet and then floor and then carpet, which is hard for little paws to walk on.
Once we were in Grammies room and he could get off the slippery floor he decided this was going to be ok. (And Mom brought treats to help.) Animals just make such a difference to elders. Especially when the elder had to leave their loved animals behind to go to a place like a nursing home. I understand why they can’t bring their beloved cats and dogs, because it would become a burden on the staff when just helping humans is hard enough, but seeing how happy Charles makes Grammie, who had to give up her cat, Casey (now living with our petsitter, Sonya), makes me sad. I really do need to bring him to visit more often. As long as he is good with it, it sure makes Grammie smile. He fell asleep in the chair with her and she never took her hand off of him the whole time. This is perfect mischief for a Monday, don’t you think?

Black and White Sunday: Besties?
Some people don’t think my dogs are bonded to each other because they are very independent souls. However, I find that Louise and Sofie are closer as they get older. Louise actually waits outside the door for Sofie to come run in the yard. Maybe its because she wants a playmate, but I think it is because she enjoys her company. Neither of them seems very bonded to Charles, who has been with us for 2 years this December. Maybe that is a size thing? However, the other day when Charles was yapping because he could not see us when we were outside by the water, Sofie ran to him and it kind of looked like she was telling him that everything would be ok. Maybe it is my anthropomorphizing dog intentions, but I do think they care for each other over caring for strangers.

Wordy Wednesday: Fungiiiiii!!!!
As the season changes the mushrooms seem to take hold on our walk. All types of mushrooms are appearing on peoples lawns. It is a lovely display of fairy circles and wild spores. Lulu likes to water them mostly. They are bigger than Charles and they scare him a little so he tries to avoid them if he can. Sofie just sniffs. Don’t let the furries eat them if you don’t know what they are, they can be deadly. And don’t eat them yourself unless you are knowledgeable about what you have picked. I think they are cool to look at but don’t tend to pick my own. Do you pick your own fungi?

Monday Mischief: PomChi Antics – Where do you hide?
Peanut and I were watching TV. Mr. Charles decided he wasn’t getting enough attention or food or whatever and so he went over to the other couch and dug a hole under the blanket, sulked and went to sleep. He is such a funny little critter. We never saw him do that before. Not having had a little dog before Charles, I find him to be more cat-like than dog. That action is definitely something Mini Cooper cat would do, but not the other dogs. The dogs dig holes in the bed and move the covers around and make nests but they don’t hide under the covers, only the cats do that. Do you hide under the blankets?

Black and White Sunday: Sofie In Her Element
Happiness is a warm batch of grass. I love to see Sofie smile. With all her anxiety and arthritis, it makes me so happy when she can catch a moment of joy. Usually, that is rolling in some grass somewhere. Have a wonderful Black and White Sunday.
