4.3.12 Immobile Me

image I am immobilized by my animals when I am working.  I have a rolling chair at my desk.  Both Sofie and Louise like to lie as close to me as possible, so, as you can see from the pictures (which were taken yesterday), one is on one side of the chair and one is on the other.

image If I move even the slightest bit I will end up running over one or the other of the dogs.  This is a conundrum that happens a lot around here.  I do not realize that they have settled in and fallen asleep like his until, it is too late.

4.2.12 “Got it !!!!”

image

"Oh, Lulu, I have the new toy ring. Come and get it!"

One of the greatest joys of having multiple animals, is watching them play.  Play with me, play by themselves, and especially, play with each other.  I love to see the silly games that they invent, and how they challenge each other in creative ways.  For example. Louise is really really fast (she is a hound/lab and sometimes I think that may be grayhound), so she loves to run circles around things, again and again and again.  Now Sofie being smaller and shorter legged, will run for a while but tires much easier.  So Sofie has learned that after about the 3rd lap around the yard with Lulu, she lies in wait behind the deck rail or a tree and jumps out at Lulu as she passes.  This to me is hilarious (I know I am easily amused, I guess).

Louise’s jaw power is probably about 20X that of Sofie.  I have seen Lulu hold on to things with her 55 lbs of strength against dogs 2X her weight.  If she really wanted to, she could pull things out of Sofie’s mouth in a second.  But she doesn’t usually, because, I think she understands that it is all in the play. Lil’ Sofie actually walks around with Lulu’s toys trying to get her attention and Lu will ignore her, I think on purpose, as Lu’s game of, ‘When I am good and ready, little sister.”

In the end, it is all for fun.  At the end of a hard day of work, or life, watching the goofies roll and tumble is a calming and joyful gift.

"I am going to lie here and see if Louise notices I have her new ring toy..."

image

"Where is she & why isn't she coming to get the toy?"

image

"Lulu , you see I have your new toy, right? You don't like when I take your toys"

"Sofie, Don't think you can have that ring, it's mine!!"

"Mommy - Sofie has my ring!"

"Got it !!!!"

4.1.12 Who’s a fool?

My mother’s birthday was April 1st.  They call it April Fools day in many countries around the world,  My mother was no fool, but the earliest recorded association between April 1 and foolishness can be found in Chaucer‘s Canterbury Tales (1392) (so says Wikipedia).  My mother loved Chaucer and Shakespeare, and used to recite lines from his plays to us all the time… “All the worlds a stage, and all the men and women are merely players….”

Being Silly

I am not a prankish person.  I don’t find slapstick or sophomoric comedy funny.  But, I think I am in the minority.  Even the animals seem to prank each other.  I have watched Louise pretend that she was going to give something to Sofie (like a ring or pull toy) only to yank it away at the last moment.  I don’t think animals feel ‘foolish’ though.  I think that is a human thing.  I have never seen one of my zoo blush (can animals really get red in the face?) or get embarrassed.  They just laugh and move on.  I love that animals live so in the moment.  I assume that is why they don’t get pranked, because they don’t worry about how they appear to others and just take the moment for what it is.

Happy birthday, Mom.  You would have been 89 today.  You would really have liked the dogs.  Say hi to Dad for me.

3.31.12 Bathroom Etiquette

Mommy - are you done yet?

Do you ever wonder why children and pets hate when you are in the bathroom with out them?  I was going to take a shower.  As you can see 3 of the pitiful zoo creatures were camped outside my bathroom door.

Nine and I will just lie on your PJs

Silly me, I let them in.

Can I jump into the bathtub with you, Mom?

.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ..

Nine likes to eat the plants (and so does Sofie when she can) – so when you get out of the bath or the shower, you are lucky if you do not step in dirt with you clean feet.  Hahahaha.  Silly goofies!  They just want to be wherever I am.  But, just when you are finally settled and soaking nicely in the tub, someone wants to leave.  Oh my – now you know I am not getting out to open the door.

Nine & I want to leave now can you open the door plz?

It does get kind of embarrassing when people come to visit us because my house is old and the doors do not close well and the animals all like to barge in on anyone sitting in the bathroom.   I try to discourage that behavior but we do not get many visitors….  Oh….  maybe that is why?….  Just realized that.

The dogs and cats all like to lick the water from the shower basin (that is probably bad, right?).  What’s a PetMom to do?  It keeps them busy and I can keep an eye on most of them.

Excuse me visitor, but why are you sitting there?

Can we jump on you?

3.30.12 Dear Reader: Question from Noel

Dear Reader – Now that the blog has grown so large I am having trouble keeping up with all my favorite blog posters and also answering all the comments.  So how do you keep up with all your blog work?  Please tell me how you incorporate it into your day?

With all my current duties, keeping the new kittens in line, making sure that Muffin is not bothered, making sure that Kitty does not hurt herself, sleeping 18 hours a day, dealing with the dumb dogs, and of course eating as often as Mommy will let me, I just can’t seem to keep up.  Please share your secrets.

Your feline friend and blogger –

Noel, the Christmas Cat, of DogDaz.com

3.29.12 Open a new window, open a new door….

Nine and Stella are very taken with the activity outside the kitchen window. All my animals seem to love this window, maybe because it is a nice sill to lie on.  The dogs like to look out the windows too, but Sofie really can’t see over the ledge.  I love when we can open the windows but we get this fine green coating of pollen over everything in and outside the house. There use to be a big maple shading that window but we had to take her down last year because of ‘borers’ and lightening damage.  Now the shade garden on that side had to be moved and that side has become a sun garden.  Because all my cats live indoors only, the world outside the windows are something magical.  Nine constantly tries to run out with the dogs, so we are having to be very careful that he does not go galloping out in all the dog excitement.  The cats sit by any door the dogs are outside of and watch.  Windows and doors to the world.  I know there is a metaphor for some great life lesson here, but it is just not coming to mind at the moment.

3.27.12 Spring Has Sprung

The forsythia offer a perfect hideout for dogs who think they can not be seen.  Sofie is silly because she loves to play behind all the bushes and hide from Louise.  She always wonders how Lulu finds her.  Just another dogsdaz morning at the zoo ❤

3.25.12 “One more story, Mom, Please!”

image

It's time to go 'nite nite'

It’s time to go “nite- nite,” but where is Sofie?  Louise is already in bed fast asleep.  Sofie is hiding (or so she thinks) under the curtains. She was actually in her kennel a moment ago, but I turned around to do something and she decided to go hide.  It is not that she does not like her Kennel, it is all about being able to decide whether she is going to do what she is told.  Ah, the endless power struggles with this little one.  Finally, I actually got her on her feet and gave her no option, so she reluctantly went in.  We go through this almost every night lately.  I do find it funny because it reminds me of when the kids were little and they would say, “Just one more story, or one more song! PLEASEEEEEEE!”

image

Mommy won't see me if I hide under the bedroom curtain. I am so smart!

image

image

image

image I can hear Lil’ Sofie in my head saying “Do i really have to go “Nite-Nite” Mom?  Could you leave the curtain up just a little so that I can make sure you are still near by?  Could you turn on the TV so I can hear some music? Can I have another drink of water?  Lulu is such a goodie-goodie – I want to play some more! Please, Please, Please… “  You have to love these little ones because they are such a joy.

Just another dogdaz evening at our house ❤
