Glamorous Dog Signs Contract with Paul Mitchell
Hair care products giant Paul Mitchell has signed a 4-year contract with a rather chic looking Chinese crested, according to reports in Mairie Claire magazine. The dog had been unrepresented to this point, but after a stunning debut at Fashion Week in New York City in February, a number of major hair care products companies were competing for her services.
The contract is reported to be worth $800,000 and will be paid partially in milkbones.

Glamorous Dog Signs Contract with Paul Mitchell
4.7.12 “Say Cheese!”
4.6.12 “Letting Sleeping Dogs Lie”
The dogs and I had a really good romp in the park. I let them both off leash for the first time and basically was able to play without to much worry of them wandering off. I really love how a good play session leads to a good nap afterwards for them and I wish I could sleep with the same abandon as the do. They seem to be finding some funny positions to sleep in though. Sometimes, it is as if they were so tired, they just conked out where they were standing, Do you find that your animals sleep in weird positions? What is that about? Are they so safe and secure once home, that they allow all worries to disappear? I like that idea, if it is true.
My dogs have started to really sleep close together, or let me restate that, Louise is now letting Sofie lean on her more and more. I find that cute. Well, I guess I will just “let sleeping dogs lie.”

4.5.12 Bugs 0 : Zoo 1
Being a bug in our house is a losing battle for the insect and lots of fun for the animals (oh gross!). This poor Stinkbug did not have a chance. Could someone tell me why a mouse would ever, ever, ever, come into a space with 5 cats and 2 dogs? Lately, the Skinks have started to find their way in and are losing their tails to the kittens also. BEWARE: It is not a pretty picture if you are an insect or small reptile in our house. Maybe in some future blog I will tell you about the snake. Just another DogDaz morning at the zoo ❤
4.4.12 Tumbleweed
I try and wash the sheets on the dog bed in my office as often as I remember to. The dogs like to help me change the dog bed sheets. Sofie wanted to take a nap before I was finished putting the clean sheets back on. Oh well, she was toooo cute to say no to.
In a house with multiple pets (and humans), it is basically impossible to manage the hair. I have always told the kids to tell any friends that might be coming over to (1) take their allergy medicine, if they need it, and (2) don’t wear black. Now you know, I always wear black and I have a lint roller in every car and purse, and stationed at every exit.
Trying to control animal hair in my house is like trying to control tumble weeds in the desert – good luck with that! I even bought that fancy Animal vacuum when it came out and….. I am not impressed. What I have learned is that the short haired animals in my house seem to shed a great deal more then the long hairs (both cats and dogs). The Guinea Pigs used to shed a lot too, but mostly that was contained. Louise is a constant shedder. There is black lab hairs everywhere, all the time, even after you just swept or vacuumed. Cat hair – OMG!! – I can run the vacuum down the hall, and by the time I am back in the living room, it has to be done all over again.
I pulled a pencil out of my pencil cup this morning on my desk and the eraser had all this white Noel fur on it. (She lives on my desk most of the time, remember.)
I wash the dog’s kennel bedding once a week too. I guess I probably should do it more, but they are never really dirty when the go to sleep (who am I kidding, they are dogs and they walk in dirt all the time!) I guess if I saved all the hair when I brushed them and around the house, I could probably go into the hair pillow business, but then, I figure most of you have enough of your own pet hair to make pillows with.
Oh did I mention all the long curly human hair in the house too. Well, that is for another blog.

4.3.12 Immobile Me
I am immobilized by my animals when I am working. I have a rolling chair at my desk. Both Sofie and Louise like to lie as close to me as possible, so, as you can see from the pictures (which were taken yesterday), one is on one side of the chair and one is on the other.
If I move even the slightest bit I will end up running over one or the other of the dogs. This is a conundrum that happens a lot around here. I do not realize that they have settled in and fallen asleep like his until, it is too late.

4.2.12 “Got it !!!!”

"Oh, Lulu, I have the new toy ring. Come and get it!"
One of the greatest joys of having multiple animals, is watching them play. Play with me, play by themselves, and especially, play with each other. I love to see the silly games that they invent, and how they challenge each other in creative ways. For example. Louise is really really fast (she is a hound/lab and sometimes I think that may be grayhound), so she loves to run circles around things, again and again and again. Now Sofie being smaller and shorter legged, will run for a while but tires much easier. So Sofie has learned that after about the 3rd lap around the yard with Lulu, she lies in wait behind the deck rail or a tree and jumps out at Lulu as she passes. This to me is hilarious (I know I am easily amused, I guess).
Louise’s jaw power is probably about 20X that of Sofie. I have seen Lulu hold on to things with her 55 lbs of strength against dogs 2X her weight. If she really wanted to, she could pull things out of Sofie’s mouth in a second. But she doesn’t usually, because, I think she understands that it is all in the play. Lil’ Sofie actually walks around with Lulu’s toys trying to get her attention and Lu will ignore her, I think on purpose, as Lu’s game of, ‘When I am good and ready, little sister.”
In the end, it is all for fun. At the end of a hard day of work, or life, watching the goofies roll and tumble is a calming and joyful gift.

"I am going to lie here and see if Louise notices I have her new ring toy..."

"Where is she & why isn't she coming to get the toy?"

"Lulu , you see I have your new toy, right? You don't like when I take your toys"

4.1.12 Who’s a fool?
My mother’s birthday was April 1st. They call it April Fools day in many countries around the world, My mother was no fool, but the earliest recorded association between April 1 and foolishness can be found in Chaucer‘s Canterbury Tales (1392) (so says Wikipedia). My mother loved Chaucer and Shakespeare, and used to recite lines from his plays to us all the time… “All the worlds a stage, and all the men and women are merely players….”
I am not a prankish person. I don’t find slapstick or sophomoric comedy funny. But, I think I am in the minority. Even the animals seem to prank each other. I have watched Louise pretend that she was going to give something to Sofie (like a ring or pull toy) only to yank it away at the last moment. I don’t think animals feel ‘foolish’ though. I think that is a human thing. I have never seen one of my zoo blush (can animals really get red in the face?) or get embarrassed. They just laugh and move on. I love that animals live so in the moment. I assume that is why they don’t get pranked, because they don’t worry about how they appear to others and just take the moment for what it is.
Happy birthday, Mom. You would have been 89 today. You would really have liked the dogs. Say hi to Dad for me.
