Grateful Thanksgiving & 10th Blogaversary

Thanksgiving 11.14

This picture is from Thanksgiving 2014. Sofie and Louise were just young pups then.

Wishing you all a safe and healthy Thanksgiving! Take care of your pack.

This is also our 10 year blogaversary, DogDaz started in November 2011.

How blessed we are to have made so many wonderful blog friends over the years.

Thank you all.

I especially want to shout out to those pups and kitties (you know who you are) who have kept me going year after year with a comment and a hug. That has meant more than you will know. Some of you feel like old friends even though we have never physically met. We have watched each other get new furfamily and say goodbye to many.

Squash & Me 2007

My health isn’t the best and many weeks blogging is the last thing that I have the energy to do, but I know you are out there and if DogDaz can make at least one person smile, then my day has been a good one.

May 2013

Thankful and grateful – Your friends at the DogDaz Zoo: Lorian, Louise, Sofie Bear, Charles, Noel, Nine, Stella, and Mini Cooper

This is not just another day at the DogDaz Zoo ❤

Thankful Thursday: We Are Grateful

For each new morning with its light, for rest and shelter of the night, for health and food, for love and friends, for everything Thy goodness sends. — Ralph Waldo Emerson

From our Zoo to yours – Thank you for another year of visiting DogDaz Zoo. I truly appreciate all my visitors and commenters. Some of you have been here for years and feel like old friends. We have been through many animals together. Thank you from the bottom of my paws to the tops of my ears!!

DogDaz Thanks Our Veterans

I am thankful for the people (and animals) that help keep me safe and free. Today we celebrate our War Veterans. Thank you to all who have sacrificed and continue to serve today.

war dogs

Dedicated on June 10, 2006, the United States War Dogs Memorial, located guarding the gateway to the New Jersey Vietnam Veterans’ Memorial in Holmdel, New Jersey, consists of a bronze statue of a kneeling Vietnam War soldier and his dog, set on a black granite base. The memorial was designed by sculptor Bruce Lindsay, Architectural Division Manager at Johnson Atelier in Mercerville, New Jersey. A graduate of Bucknell University, Lindsay’s studio is adjacent to Grounds for Sculpture, the 22-acre sculpture park on the grounds of the former New Jersey State Fair. The U.S. War Dogs Memorial, while directly representing the War Dog Teams of the Vietnam War, honors all our nation’s war dogs and their handlers – past, present and future.

Happy 5th Birthday, Louise

Louise 5 bdayLouise – Do you remember when we first met in March of 2010?  You were so shy and skinny then. Do you remember that itchy mange you had and the pain of that collar that was embedded in your neck?  It took a while for you to trust us but you grew into such a loving and sweet dog in the safety of our home.  Do you remember Mr, Squash E Bear?  He went blind shortly after you came to live with us and you used to lead him around by his leash.  You were such a good helper to him.  He really liked you.  And then when we got Sofie, I thought you would never talk to me again.  You really did not understand this interloper into the quiet of your domain.  But you and SoSo have become inseparable.  I know that you can’t image a world without her.  And I can not imagine a world without you.

We love you Lulu Belle and we are so glad you picked our family to be with.  Happy 5th birthday.  You have my heart now and furever, – Mom

Thankful Thursday: Madge Thanks You & Still Needs You

Tuesday 5.13.14 3

A message from Canine Nation:

We are so completely happy to announce that after months, yes months, of struggling to find a temporary placement for little Madge, her luck is finally beginning to change.

Madge will be headed to the Wilford Dog Training Academy in Mays Landing, NJ on Friday!!!

Here she will be boarded but it’s going to be a whole new ball game for her with their fabulously dedicated staff!!! Madge will be out of a cage and outside eight times a day plus an additional two times a day for her training!! The academy focuses on helping rescue dogs become more adoptable by working on any issues they may need to overcome. In Madge’s case, they will be helping to socialize and get her past her fears with other dogs. We are so completely happy for Madge and the fact that she’ll finally have the help and mental stimulation she needs to become a much happier and healthier dog!!

We are so thankful for your support all this time. Your shares and messages to us are ultimately what saved her life! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We still need your help though! Madge’s training (after a generous discount from the Wilford team) will cost $20 a day. As we’ve stated before, we are now only relying on donations for Madge’s care, as we’ve already spent thousands on her boarding

Please, please we want Madge to have a solid month of training at least, so she can really benefit from this! This will cost $600 total. Every little bit helps!!! Thank you so much for your continued support and dedication to Madge! Please continue to share her story far and wide so we can get her the help she needs! Thank you all!!

Thankful Thursday: We’ve Been Collared

Collars

We are now the proud, and thankful, owners of 2 beautiful handmade collars that we won at the Mollie and Jaylord Auction, and handcrafted by JoAnn of Sandy Springs Chesapeakes.  We are so thankful for these amazing collars, because…..  Mommy actually bid on a cat collar (she was going to give as a gift because our cats are indoors and don’t wear anything but fur).  When she won JoAnn asked what colors Mommy wanted but then she said she would make us a dog collar instead if we would like.  So….  Mommy ordered one for Sofie (because she is smaller and she figured it would be more ‘cat’ size).  But….  JoAnn made the first one too big, so she sent both and now we both have wonderful matching sister collars.  Yeah yeah yeah!  They are sooooo cool.  Thank you.

Thankful Thursday: Liebster Award

We are thankful to receive a lovely Liebster Award from DoggyMom.com

liebsteraward_3lilapples

We love making new blog friends and really appreciate when someone reaches out and touches us.  Though this award is for new blogs, and we are old and have lots of great fans, we appreciate being honored.

Doggy Mom is Kathleen Crisley, Principal and Owner of Canine Catering Ltd in Christchurch New Zealand.  She is currently Doggy Mom to Daisy, a Pointer who was re-homed with her in December 2003. She started making treats for her own pups and it turned into her passion.  Thank you Kathleen and Daisy for this honor.

The award rules are as follows:

1.  Thank the person who nominated you, and link back and recognize their blog in your post.  DONE
2.  Answer the ten questions posted by the blogger who nominated you! BELOW
3.  Nominate ten other bloggers for the award.  BELOW
4.  Create ten questions for your nominees to answer. OH MY – THAT IS HARD – take a look at the thoughtful  questions DoggieMom gave me.
5.  Notify your nominees via comment.

Questions DoggyMom asked:
(My answers in Bold)
  1. Why did you establish your blog?  Mostly this blog happened because the animals were making me laugh and I wanted to be able to show others how silly they were.  After a time this became the chronicles of my many rescues: Louise (aka Lulu Belle) my fearful shy 60 lb maybe Hound/Lab (4 1/2), Sofie Bear (3 1/2), 50 lb maybe Sheltie/ ‘stubborn’ dog mix, and the house cats: Noel (the Christmas Cat – about 7), Nine (the little Man-cat – 3) and Baby Stella (2 1/2).
  2. When did you start blogging? November 2011
  3. Approximately how many hours per week do you blog? It depends.  I do at least 1 post a day (from the Zoo) which takes maybe 10 minutes (because I am saving internet images all day long from pinterest, tumblr, etc. to post later), but Saturday thru Wed, I also do a personal post about my 5, which can take 30 minutes to several hours depending on topic.  I used to post twice a day, everyday, but I can’t find the time to do that anymore.  So….  I would say 4+ hours a weeks.
  4. If you had one thing to do differently with your blog, what would it be?  I would have monetized it from the start so that all this work could buy more dog cookies.
  5. What’s one of your favourite blogs (other than your own)?  BumpyRoadtoBubba, Cupcake Speaks, Speedy Rabbit, Easy, Emma, My Three Moogies,  GuineaPigSqueak, there are just so many that I love every week.
  6. What makes that blog one of your favourites?  Each and every blogger puts there special voice into the world.  They have been a wonderful community of virtual friends that care about what they are saying and why they are saying it.
  7. Since we can’t spend all of our time online, what book are you currently reading?  The DoveKeepers
  8. Which do you prefer – pure bred or mixed breed? If you mean pet, I prefer RESCUE,  I am not a breedist, I love them regardless of sire.
  9. Do you consider yourself a dog parent or dog owner?  Well, since I adopted them, I guess I am their parent, but legally, I am their owner.  I would have to say they own me, more than I own them.  Bark Out Loud (BOL)
  10. Would you rather do a Crossword or a Suduku?  Absolutely Crossword.  Though I can do the math thing, but don’t enjoy it as much.
  11. When the weather turns cold, does your dog wear a coat?  Louise wears sweaters because she has such think fur, Sofie, only when it is frigid (more for me than her, I think).
Doggie Mom  – here is a DogDaz Pick of the Litter Award for you, for being so nice. – DogDaz
