Black and White Sunday: Be Like Nine

There are lessons to be learned from my 100% indoor cats. They never complain that they are self-isolating or quarantined. They are indoor cats because as their caretaker, their governor, I decided that the road outside the front door could kill them, the raccoons and foxes could eat them, and I did not want to take the risk of losing them. Protecting them is my job. They don’t complain. They don’t try to run away. They have adapted to their world as indoor cats. They exercise, they cuddle, they eat, and they safely socialize. Be like my cats! Stay indoors, and stay safe.

Wonderful Wednesday: StayHomeSaveLives

This post means a great deal more to me than just a fun picture with 4 of my zoo. If you look closely, it shows the personalities of each animal.

  • Louise: Always pawing at me. She knows she can’t be on the couch but she finds ways to get as close as she can by having a paw on me. She seems to be saying ‘Please, Mommy, I was here first. Pet me!,’ and I do. She is the quiet leader of the pack.

  • Sofie: The bundle of anxiety that is always at my feet. Through it all, she seems to have that mischievous smile whenever you snap a picture. She is loving that Mommy is home all the time now, but, as you can assume, it has made any separation all the harder for her.

  • Mini Cooper: On my lap 24/7 these days. When she isn’t on my lap, she is meowing for me to sit down, so she can be on my lap, or my hip, or my keyboard…

  • Charles: Next to you but not on you. Wanting to be the center of attention, but knowing he is small and has to share with all these big animals. He has gotten very vocally demanding these days and that little yip can go right through you. He is pouting in this shot, as he is prone to do because he wants his 3rd supper (he is the most food demanding mugwump ever).

And then, of course, there is me. Currently hiding from the world so that I don’t catch this horrible COVID-19 virus. The animals are my social distancing, especially when I am out walking them. I am one of those ‘vulnerable’ people they keep talking about. I am one of the ones that, if this thing hits, the potential is that it will take me down hard.

Please STAY HOME if you can. If you can’t, follow the rules about washing your hands and keeping your distance. And, for my sake, if you have not been isolated for 14 days with no symptoms, please stay away. That is how we show love and respect in the age of COVID-19.

Thank you to all the first responders, the front line medical workers, the animal caretakers, the grocery store and essential services clerks, the people that keep the warehouses stocked so that things get shipped, and the transportation crews that keep the supply chain going. We will get through this, even though we have to do it #separatelytogether.

Stay well and go wash your paws!

Monday Mischief: Everybody’s Home

This is just a normal day at the DogDaz Zoo: 3 dogs out for a walk and the 3 cats waiting for their return.

Yes, that really is our doormat, long before COVID-19.

I did not realize that Charles’ lead got caught in the garden timbers and he could not get up the stairs. You can see it at the very beginning of the video. I had to go and release him to shoot the second half of the video. He is such a silly little man!’

What kind of mischief did you get into today?

Stay well and remember we will get through this #separatelytogether

Wonderful Wednesday: Thank You

Being a 13-year-old cat has its perks!

No one expects you to play anymore, so they are really amused when you get the zoomies and go flying around the house.

No one expects you to gain much weight at this age, so they let you eat a little more food than they used to.

No one expects you to be awake the cat-usual 6 hours a day anymore, so now I sleep more like 20hrs.

Being a senior cat definitely has its advantages, but I can’t remember what they are…

How old are you?

Monday Mischief: Social Distancing

Mom has decided that since she must stay 6 feet away from all other humans that a dog leash is a perfect 6-foot tool to ensure the perfect distance is achieved. We learned a new term last week called ‘social distancing.’ The perfect way to practice social distancing is to have at least 2 dogs, but 3 or even 4 may be better, all on 6-foot leads, spread out around the human at the center.

On a serious note, please take this terrible earth-shattering COVID-19 situation seriously my friends. Only you can protect you and your loved ones. We have a great deal to learn about this virus, transmission, illness, and recovery. This is not a drill! Wash your paws for at least 20 seconds (I sing the ABC alphabet song), limit human contact (which means 4X as many pet cuddles on a normal day), and be smarter about what you put in your mouth (tell Sofie that, please).

Mom is keeping us very close today because she needs to be in a good vibe bubble: it is her birthday and the world is making her feel older than dirt.

What kind of mischief did you get into today?

Black and White Sunday: Happy 13th Noel

Noel, the Christmas-cat, will be 13 years young on Tuesday. If you search ‘Noel’ on the sidebar, you will probably find more posts at the DogDaz Zoo on her then any of the other animals. Maybe because she is the oldest of the current pack, or maybe because she is so photogenic. I can’t believe that this little white terribly ill rescued kitten grew into this amazing white rabbit-fur purr machine. Noel has the Feline Herpes (FVR) virus, which almost left her blind. I had to carry her for a month close to my chest to keep her breathing and now look at her: Queen of the Zoo.

Happy Birthday, Queen Noel!

Wonderful Wednesday: Cardinal

I was standing in the yard with the dogs and one of the many many cardinals that live in my yard, graced me with a quiet moment so that I could take a photo of him. The other day, there were 4 vibrant red males in my mock orange bush, but alas, I did not have my phone/camera.

Have a WONDERFUL Wednesday!

Monday Mischief: Lulu’s Blue Dog

Isn’t it funny how the animals chose a favorite toy for a while and then move on to another? This week, for Louise, it is the blue dog.

She lies on it. She carries it around and wants to play tug. I can’t wait to see what toy it will be next week.

Black and White Sunday: Daylight

I thought this was a perfect black and white of Louise from 2016 for Daylight Savings Day. A shiny black dog lying in the spring sun.

Happy Black and White Sunday!
