Welcome Home Mom Attack
Lulu won’t let anyone near me! “My Mommy!” she growls.
My understanding is that both the humans and the animals were losing their minds by the 5th day I was gone. The animals were being so annoying they just wanted someone, anyone, to pay attention to them. I heard that Sofie actually started hitting Louise in the head to get her to play. While I was gone my daughter took some pictures, so I will have to see them to understand some of the antics. I did Skype with Muffin and Nine but they were not very talkative; the dogs were at daycare, so I missed them on the call. The report was that the dogs actually did sleep until like 8 AM which never happens when I am home (very interesting). Like JetLag (which takes a major toll on your circadian rhythm especially when you were 14 hours ahead and now you have to come back), MommyLag is similar. It takes time for everything to return to ‘normal.’ Right now both humans and animals want to be near me a lot more than usual. Sofie won’t let me out of her sight. Lulu wants to crawl inside me and keeps one paw on me at all times. I’ve read that JetLag takes one day for every hour you need to readjust, I wonder how much time it takes for MommyLag? I am sure the humans will be back to taking me for granted way before the furballs do. Nice to be home.

Many times I wonder what the animals are really doing while I am gone. I have thought about installing one of those spy cameras, like the kind you use to check up on your human child’s babysitter to see if they are really taking them out to the park or letting them sit in front of the ‘idiot box’ TV all day. But, then I realize that might be, well, a little obsessive. Basically, I think that Louise sleeps for most of the time. Sofie, on the other hand, may try to sleep, but the cats tend to set her up to get in trouble. For example, the cats get on my desk and throw stick pens down to Sofie. Of course Sofie can not help herself and chews through the plastic until it is unrecognizable. This kind of trouble is not only dangerous for Sofie but is messy. One time, about 23 years ago, I had left Nikki dog (who was about 3) and the then kittens, Alice and Gertrude, alone all day while I was at work. I had obviously lost my mind because I left a full try of just baked brownies on the counter to cool and went to work outside the house all day. Well, when I got home, not only were the brownies and the glass baking dish on the floor, but there was one very crazy puppy running circles around the house. Now I know the only way that a little Cocker Spaniel got that heavy baking dish was with the creative pushing of it off the counter by 2 little kitties. It was not funny at the time. On second thought, maybe I should install that camera…..

Muffin said that he is going to live in my pocketbook so that I never leave again, or at least take him with me if I go. I do not think that the animals would like to travel on these long flights to mysterious places, actually they don’t even like to take short trips in the car. I am glad to be home after 9 days in Australia. The animals went crazy for a really long time when I walked in the door. Louise was so happy she actually was biting at me in joy. I hope they kept you amused while I was gone. Now that I am back I hope to catch up on all the blogs I have been missing. I wish someone would pay me just to zooblog all day; work is getting in the way of my blog time, sorry.

Louise: “Sofie do you see her? Peanut said that Mommy should be home tonight.”
Sofie: “Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!… No I don’t see her yet.” (whine whine whine)
Louise: “It seems like it has been many feedings since we have seen her (whimper whimper). I am going to tell her that it is just not the same when she is gone.”
Sofie: “Now who is whining, Lulu?”
Louise: “Oh, but a sock in it, Sofie!”

I do not know who created this poster but I love it!! I am not sure how we get the message out that animals are so influenced by how they are raised. It is the same with children, you live what you learn. When a dog is loved and cared for he/she grows into an animal that understands kindness. When a animal is tied to a post all day, beaten, used as bait, starved, experimented on, or just plain neglected, the animal will not understand how to be in the world. I know that I am “preaching to the choir,” because if you are reading this, you already love animals or you wouldn’t be following my blog. Let us teach kindness everyday, and maybe someday, we will have all good dogs. (I can dream, right?)
(Getting on a plane now for the 22 hour trip back home. Can’t wait to see my zoo, human and furry.)

Since Mom is away, Louise and I have tried to take some pictures so that we can blog about our time without her. I tried to take them with my cell phone and then Louise took one too. We hope you like our dog attempts at photography. We know we are not as good as Laurie Bartolo, expert dog photographer extraordinaire, but maybe she will consider us for her next amateur photographer show. I am not sure we dogs really get the concept of pictures (or blogs for that matter) but I know that Mommy likes to snap a lot of them of us. I am sure that when Mom returns she will choose me as the new DogDaz photographer for all events, don’t you think? Louise can carry the equipment bag (woof woof woof woof – this is dog for “Rolling On The Floor Laughing My Tail Off”). – Sofie Bear

My name is Nine and I am a big boy now (Mommy thinks I am about 17 months). I am a really silly boy. I like to make everyone laugh with my kitten antics. Lately I have been endearing myself to everyone with my “look at me I am really cute” poses. When I am not jumping on one of the older cats or beating up my little sister, Stella, I am try to hang with my best friend, Sofie Bear the dog, or swim in one of the fish tanks. Lately, the big tank in the living room has become my daily playground, chasing big fish around the glass and running from across the room and crashing into the glass to try and catch them. I also like to take things that people leave anywhere, like keys or wallets; they are so fun to play with, especially if they are shiny. At night Stella and I still have to stay in our special room because we seem to bother the humans. I am not sure why the humans sleep at night when we are awake and then are awake during the day while we sleep, but they don’t seem to like the way I play around their heads all night long. Oh well, I am so cute, they just need to get over it!

This is Noel and Mom left me in charge of the zoo while she is gone. I know that everyone, especially the stupid dogs, have been asking why she would leave me, the beautiful quiet alpha cat, in charge, but I say ‘Boo’ to my doubters. Obviously, Mom recognizes my great capacity for leadership. I do not interact a lot with the other animals but if I have to tell Miss Kitty, or one of the pesky kittens to stay in line, I have no trouble doing that. As Muffy, poor old cat, got older and started to really slow down, I have stepped up and taken over the pride. I am really a one person cat and only like Mommy petting me or picking me up. I was so seriously ill when I was a young cat and Mommy rescued me and nursed me back to health everyday for months, so she and I are really close and she is the only human that I like to cuddle with – actually the only being at all that I get physically close to. I live in her office except when everyone is in the living room watching TV (which is when I sit on her chair or out of arms reach on the couch), or when it is food time. When Mom is not home I sometimes hang out in the big sunny window in the kitchen, because I really like to feel the sun on my fur. Somedays I blog for her, but I really don’t have a lot to say and other animals and humans don’t interest me very much. So don’t cross me or I will have to make sure you understand my leadership position in the zoo. I am boss, but when Moms home I let her think she is.
