6.21.13 Follow Up Friday: Past and Future

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that). Has it really been a week already.  I am losing track of time. Last weekend I was feeling nostalgic and Caturday was honoring The Muffin Man.  He is very missed around here.  Muffy was one of those cats that owned your heart.  He was smart, and funny, and fearless.  Orange Toms are just special.  They have their own way about them.

Muffy Nov

Then on Sunday we visited Squash E Bear in black & white.  There are so many incredible memories with Squash.  K8 said he saved our family and he did.  When he came into our lives, the adults were unraveling and the kids were a hot mess.  He calmed us and brought us all together so that we passed through that time and become stronger.  Somehow he healed us. 100_5163 On Mischief Monday the crazy dogs went chasing the ducks and the geese.  Sofie almost ate them.  Those were ducklings under the dock, but it was a different goose family swimming by on the other side.  It is very busy with new life down by the river.

On our usual Tuesday’s Tails, we featured an iguana and a hamster at the local animal control.  I used to think that the dog pound (why did they call it that?) was just dogs and cats.  Not ours.  I do hope that critters get adopted too. Wordless Wednesday showed the pups getting their nails clipped at PetSmart.  That was the first (and also last) time that I will take them there (usually my groomer does it or the vet).  When we got home I found blood all over the deck and the kitchen floor because Louise’s back black nail was cut to the quick.  It finally stopped but only after I put a white sock on her to keep her from getting blood everywhere.  The whole reason I took her was because I am afraid of cutting the black nails myself.  She is fine but it freaked me out.  Accidents happen, but I might as well do it myself. IMG_20130611_101403_679 And yesterday, on Thankful Thursday, I told you how thankful I am for all I have and for my wonderful pets.  Though I got laid off last week, I know that with the support of my family, both human and fur, the world will find it’s balance and all things will be as they should – just different.  (How nice it would be if pet blogging could be my new full time gig!)

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

5.31.13 Follow Up Friday: Duckies, Kitties, Puppies and Babies

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

This week started out ducky, with the baby ducks floating on the river on Black and White Sunday and then Louise and Sofie going crazy trying to eat them on Monday Mischief.  I really don’t know what I would do if one of them swam out far enough to disrupt the floating family.  But luckily, I did not have to find out.

We are still hopping with Tuesday’s Tails to try to find homes for local abandon animals.  This week we had 3 beautiful kitties to show you.  Do people like the adoption hop?  I don’t know that I have many local followers, but even if it gets one animal a home it has done the job.

The biggest hit this week was Noel, loving on a picture of herself, for Wordless Wednesday.  It is not that Noel, the Christmas Cat, is vain, but she thinks a lot of herself.  She is the alpha of all alphas at the DogDaz Zoo and she makes sure that we all remember that.

And we ended the week with our brand new family member, Sydney Alexa, who is coming home from the hospital today to meet her big sister Maddy.  Duckies, Kitties, Puppies and Babies – now that makes the world go round.

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.

5.24.13 Follow Up Friday: FlatDogs, LovingCats, & Helping Friends

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

I got home Saturday with Peanut from college.  She is now home for the summer.  The animals were so happy to see her.  Now we are back to life as normal (is there such a thing?) at the zoo.

Blogfriends thought that the Sunday Flat Dogs were very cute, and flat.  Now that it is getting hot and muggy out the dogs seem to be getting flatter and flatter.

Stella is so in love with K8 and she never leaves her alone, as you saw on Monday Mischief.  She hides in K8’s room almost all the time and waits for her to come home from work to play, play, play.  It is hard being the youngest in a big family.  I understand Stella, I’m the baby too.

Stella <3 K8

Stella loves K8 (and k8’s bed)

Sofie thought it was pretty funny that everyone wanted to give her boxes and boxes of cookies when she was begging on Wordless Wednesday.  Animals have this pleading way of getting anything they want from us weak humans who love them.

On Thankful Thursday we acknowledged Miss Harper Lee for blessing us with the Sweetest Blog Award, and we passed it on to some really sweet blogfriends.  I love getting awards but it is so hard to figure out how to only bestow them on a dozen or so.  When I was making the baker’s dozen list, I had over 40 names.  Always hard to choose.  But it was fun to have a food fight with everyone.  Here’s a cupcake in your eye!

This week Savannah  helped her friends Mollie & Alfie  hold an auction for a very sick foster kitty, Leo.  We bid on some cool stones and won.  But really the winner will be Leo when his vet bills are paid,  We do hope you get better and start eating on your own soon Leo.  Leo has Hepatic Lipidosis disease.  Click HERE to find out more about this illness in cats.  Who knew that it was so common. The zoo is sending a lot of healing energy to you Leo.

 You can help Leo too (if you are in the USA) – bu donating to …Contra Costa Humane Society Donate page CLICK HERE…when you see this option…

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

5.17.13 Follow Up Friday: Dogs & Guineas

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

Blogfriends really liked the Sunday picture of Sofie and wanted to see the original.  So here they are together.  You know, I take it back but that is not in the yard by the forsythia bush, it must be down by the river because that is the crazy wild bamboo.  🙂

She is so alert sometimes.  I actually saw her point today by lifting her front paw like Louise does.  I think they mimic each other sometimes.

There was incredible Mischief on Monday down by the river.  The dogs were losing their minds because their were pairs of ducks on both sides of the pier.  The ducks just kept swimming and the dogs were running from one pier to another.  Ultimately they did run down the boat ramp, but I called them back because the Magothy River just received an F (as in Failure) for water quality (Vital Magothy River Water Grasses Vanish) and I worry that they will get sick. Last year, while fixing the Osprey platform, one of my neighbors dogs spent to much time in the water and got very sick.  I hate what is happening to the environment.

I focused on critters on Tuesday’s Tail to get animals adopted. Don’t you just love Guinea Pigs?  We so miss our crew.   With 5 pigs, 3 cages, and every day run-arounds in the pig pens, it was a big job but they were worth it.

Thankful Thursday, I left to go get Peanut at college in New York and we won’t be home until Caturday.   I am very excited and I know all the animals will go crazy when she gets home.  The animals just seem to relate differently to younger humans.  It is almost as if they treat them more like siblings.

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

5.10.13 Follow Up Friday: A Week In Balance

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

Angel 9

Angel 9

The snoozing Nine got a lot of attention on Caturday.  Yes, even little devil angel cats need their beauty rest.

yingPeople saw the Yin-Yang of Louise and Sofie, in their Sunday Black & White photo. Yin and Yang symbolizes dualism, the state of life: balance.  My dogs are opposites in more than their colors; Louise is shy, Sofie is outgoing;  Lulu is quiet, Sofie is loud; you get the idea.  I could not have 2 totally different personalities in dogs.  For me they are a perfect balance.

This is like what Lao Tzu says of Yin and Yang in Tao Te King:

“Tao engenders One;
One engenders Two;
Two engenders Three;
Three engenders all things.
All things carry the yin (femininity)
while embrace the yang (masculinity).
Neutralising energy brings them into harmony.”

On Wednesday I found out that I had to take down the Sunday Cartoon from last week because Peanut’s cartoons are copyrighted and you can not reproduce them on the internet.  So, I replaced Snoopy and Charlie Brown with a dog house, because DogDaz is in the dog house for being a bad blogger.

I absolutely loved the ideas you all came up with about why Sofie took her Airdog toy down to the old Cherry tree on Monday Mischief.  Nellie thought she just forgot to take it out of her mouth.  Binky and Jodi felt she took it so that no one else would play with her toy.  Cupcake was projecting that it was for security reasons. Easy thought that Sofie would play fetch with the tree (that was pretty out there, Easy). Roxy felt it had something to do with a squirrel, and Doggie was sure she was protecting everything, the tree, the squirrel, the toy.  And many many more saw it as an spring offering of some sort.  Whatever it was, Airdog comes and goes, in and out, on a regular basis.  Thanks for all your thoughts.  Sofie definitely keeps me amused.

We were excited to join the new hop by Dogs N Pawz called Tuesday’s Tails. where every Tuesday we are going to focus on animals that need homes.  I love it and will try to participate every week.  Won’t you hop with us to get homes for all the homeless?

Winnie_the_Pooh_and_FriendsWordless Wednesday was pretty wordy, but I am glad that you could see the fun that the dogs were having with their best friend Mo.  I think friends are important for animals, as well as humans.  I grew up with a singular dog (Louise Pierre Andre the 14th of Edgewood Lipton – we all wanted different names I guess).  I don’t remember Louie every interacting with any other animals. I am not saying he was unhappy, because he had his humans and he loved us, but, I think that maybe animals should have other friends besides humans, when possible.  What do you think?

And finally this week, Louise and I have been working through some fear stuff.  Well, I have been working, she has been fearing.  Maybe it is because I am not in a great space right now and she is picking up on my energy. I try to always listen to the lessons from my zoo and Thankful Thursday focused on what I have learnt from my little scaredy dog.

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.
