Follow Up Friday: Wrapping Up 2014

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  Since this is the last Friday of 2014, we thought we would recap a wonderful year in pictures for you.

2014 In Review

From the snow covered river last January, to acrobatic cat antics, the heat of the summer, the gorgeous fall, the addition of zoo member 6, Mini Cooper, and now the winter rains, we had a great DogDazCats2 year.

That’s our year in review. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

Just another DogDaz morning at the zoo ❤

Follow Up Friday: Home Again, Home Again, Giggity Gig

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

Noel waiting

Mommy, Is that you ?

Peanut and I got home on Tuesday; me from visiting her in Israel, she now visiting me (or at least her friends) for a few weeks until school starts again.  It was a great trip.  I have not been there since 1966.  The country has changed a great deal since then.

I sure missed the doggies this trip.  There were dozens of cats around but not many dogs.  It is interesting the different energy that there is when you are surrounded by wild cats vs wild dogs.  I guess I just don’t worry so much that a cat is going to bite my head off.

Noel (above) was waiting patiently for us to arrive.  She has taken to my office again while I was gone.  She did not spend much time in there when I was in China so I was glad to know she is back in her pink bed.

While away, I featured the many animals of Israel: the cats of Jerusalem, the animals of the biblical zoo, the birds of Masada, the goats of the Judean desert, and of course, more cats of Jerusalem. Now that I am home I will start to focus on the DogDaz zoo again.  The cats have had the run of the place since the dogs were at Sonya’s, so they are a little miffed that the dogs are back. It is always interesting to watch the dynamic change when I and the dogs return and we turn the house upside down with our noise and our playing.

Mom's home

We’re back!

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

Just another DogDaz morning at the zoo ❤

Follow Up Friday: New Year Rant

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).  But today, I am going to rant about the last 6 months, if that is ok with you?

There is so much to follow-up with since I have been back from China in late November.  I have kind of lost my posting rhythm that I had for the last 2 years.  Life has really been a whirlwind since last summer when I got laid off retired.  When I was working full-time I had my days neatly planned and the blogs both were on the publishing schedule as part of my day.  DogDaz was a post-a-day with universal animal pictures and a post-a-day with personal zoo stories.  My business blog was twice a week.  But that has all changed.  I am lucky if I can get once a month with my business blog.  And DogDaz, well I have been able to keep up the post-a-day pictures, but the personal stuff has been limited mostly to blog hops.  I miss the routine and am trying hard to regain it, but sometimes, it just takes time to control chaos.  I still reply to every comment that people write me, but it has become incredibly hard to visit all my blog friends like I want to.  That makes me frustrated and sad, but I need to focus on different things now (like closing business).
bw lulu snow 2012
The dogs and I have been through a lot over the last few months.  Louise as you might recall was being treated for Perianal Fistula Disease.  She was on heavy-duty medication in October and November and appears to have gone into remission (Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah).  I took them both for their annual check up 2 weeks ago and everything seemed fine with her.  But…. on Monday I noticed a very large bump around Louise’s shoulder. Freaked me out. I am thinking Lyphoma from all the toxins she had from the medicine, or something worse. Rushed her to vet.  Dr Kate said it is a Granulomas reaction to all the vaccines she was given a few weeks ago.  Oh my!  Have any of you had this type of reaction in your dogs?  It is hard tissue that forms when the body is trying to reject a foreign substance (like a vaccine).  Dr. Kate said warm compress and it will go away in a few weeks.  Hope so.  It doesn’t seem to bother Lulu, thank goodness.  She is only 4, which is to young for all this sicky stuff.  Would you discontinue vaccines?
IMG_20140103_094500_110 I don’t know if I have blogged about Sofie’s increased obsessive behavior.  Barking at every sound, having to gnaw on something constantly (including herself).  Dr, Kate says she is a herding bred and needs a job.  Great!  I need a job too! That doesn’t mean I gnaw on my arm (well maybe).  She has been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). I guess I have to find a flock of sheep and get her herding.  But it is minus 12 degrees Fahrenheit outside so I am not going to be able to sheep herd anytime soon.  I am trying to keep her busy (actually both of them) in the house and I bought her a ‘Thunder Shirt’ (she is wearing it in this picture) to try to calm her from the sounds of life and to also make her feel more secure.  Has anyone tried a shirt for OCD?  When do you put it on?  Did it help your dog?

My theme for 2014 is ‘Controlling Chaos.’  That seems to be my life right now. Managing the development of my business while maintaining my sanity with my zoo, my family, and my health. My health is stress stress stress, so I really need to change that..Ah, but this is a blog about the animals, not about me, so I will leave complaining for another day.

Lulu is poking me and wants to go out in the freeze.  Please take a moment and accept this invitation to a snowball fight!

We are back!
The cats seem to be doing ok right now, thank goodness!  Noel started to come out into the living room and interact much more with K8 and V while I was in China.  She has continued to do that now that I am home and it is a good thing.  I do miss her in my office with me when I am there (like now), but her new place appears to be on the kitchen chair, under the table, where I put a blanket for her before I left to keep her warm.  That is her home now and it gives her more ability to watch the world then she used to have.
Noel peeking
That is Noel looking up from the kitchen chair (with her blanket) and wedged against the kitchen table.  She is just cracking us up these days.

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

Follow Up Friday: Hopping With No Triskadekaphobia

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

Today is Friday the 13th.  It doesn’t bother me, but some people have triskaidekaphobia (the fear of the number 13).  Now that is a wild phobia to have.  Personally, 13 has always been a good number and day for me.

friday-the-13th

It is really nice to be back in the States and home with my humans and furries.  The dogs and I are back in a regular walking routine, despite Mother Nature trying really hard to force us in side.  Snow, slush, sleet, hail, you name it, but mostly really really cold rain.

Working hard to return to a regular daily blog hop routine but that seems to be harder than you think.  We started this week with Caturday and featured our Noel waiting for the snow fall.  She is such a sweet girl.  White on white.

Black and White Sunday was a shadow of Lulu Belle and me walking in the winter sun.  Sometimes that is the only way I can get a picture of me and the pups.

Monday Mischief showed the doggies with big fluffy snow flakes, except the flakes seemed to be invisible.  The only way you knew that I was telling the truth was by looking at Louise’s black fur.  Bark Out Loud (BOL).

We did not know what was in store from the weather until later in the week. Wordless Wednesday  caught Sofie from the upstairs window waiting on a newly snowed on deck for Louise to run by.  They dogs really like slipping and sliding in the new fallen snow.

That’s all I was able to hop for the week – but of course, everyday there is a DogDaz Zoo pic for you. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out this Friday hop below and you can go play with others.

Follow Up Friday: Noel, then Sofie, more Noel, and Leaves

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

I thought I would be gone by now, but, snafus being as they are, I have not been able to get my Chinese Visa because of a ton of different issues, and now it looks like I will be home for another 2 weeks.  That gives me 2 more weeks to enjoy the fall, when it stops raining, and to be with my family and furries.

Black and White Sunday was a rerun of my favorite Noel picture.  We have these silly cardboard things on the ends of heavy gage wire, that kind of look like bugs.  It was just such a perfect moment.  Duh?

Noel, the Christmas Cat

Noel, the Christmas Cat

Monday Mischief was our last swim in our friend Amy’s pool.  And, boy were we lucky we did that because the weather turned to freezing rain and won’t stop.  One day summer – next day winter – around here.  Sofie is doing fine after her tangle with the rose bush.  The tip of her ear is a little ragged, but she will live.

Mom! Louise has all the toys and she isn't sharing.

Mom! Louise has all the toys and she isn’t sharing.

I was so consumed with arrangements for the China trip that I forgot to post Tuesday’ s Tails (sorry), but Wordless Wednesday was Noel again, this time hiding behind the cactus in the kitchen window.  Since she is the Christmas cat (yes, we adopted her at Christmas time, and she came with the name Noel) – I decided she is a Christmas Catactus.  (MOL)

Thankful Thursday brought to mind all the smells and sounds of the fall season.  Even though we had torrential rain from the backend of a Hurricane named Karen.  Lots of Followers commented how much they love fall too.

Follow Up Friday: Manly Cats, Puppy Mischief, and a Note

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

Weeks fly by like hummingbirds.  I know they have been here, but they are so fast that all I see these days is a blur.

woohoo_2_5B1_5D2152252244487

Caturday started the week with the joker of the house, Nine, in one of his manly poses.  He is always being silly and cracking us up.  I really appreciate that since Noel is very serious most of the time, and Stella, she just is so quiet, you have to really go look for her to get much interaction.

Black and White Sunday, was finally a decent fall shot of Sofie Bear.  I love fall pictures of the animals.  The earth is colorful and they just always look like they are happy.  Well, they are actually, because the air is crisp, not cold, and there are lots of things to chase and pounce on.

Fall 07 089

We carved a cat pumpkin.

I have been telling, and showing you the new puppy next door, Zelda.  On Monday Mischief,  I was able to catch some shots of her playing with Louise’s tail.  Lulu is tolerating her very well.  Sofie stays about 40 yards away.  Puppies are just happiness exemplified.

There was a beautiful cat named Toby at the shelter this week.  He is a senior with a wonderful disposition and needs to find a wonderful family to match.  Thank you to so many people for reblogging/sharing on Facebook and Twitter.  I know in my heart that helps. Thank you.

And to continue the Thanks on Thankful Thursday, I gave you an update on Louise’s condition.  I am so thankful for medicine, especially when it is working.  My beautiful baby is feeling much better, and I am thankful every day.

Mom, can you get me a new office chair?

Mom, can you get me a new office chair?

And now it is Friday,  How did that happen.

Fan Note: I am getting ready to go to China for a month to work.  As a newly self-employed person, I take work where I can get it and this job is in Shenzhen, China (which is near Hong Kong).  I am very excited because I have not been to either city before, but a month away is a really long time (I have never been gone for that long).  I do not know if I will be able to do the regular daily blog hops, but I am setting the DogDaz Zoo daily posts up so that they will continue until I return.

I still do not have my brand new computer fixed yet (this has been a nightmare).  Now, at day 17 of not having it work and 3 repair attempts, they are finally sending me a new one (but it is a different/lesser model – but I said yes anyway, because I just want a working computer at this point).  Let’s hope it gets here before I go.

The dogs are going to Sonja the Petsitter for the month and the cats will be home with V.  With all the medicine for Louise and the need for daily attention (they are used to me being home all the time), I thought it best they be around a pack of dogs (she has 4 Dalmations, a Cocker, and the Mix) and people who can interact more during the day.  I am sure they will have some interesting TAILs when I return.

Squash & Me 2007

I will keep blogging at least until next Friday when I hope to leave.  Sorry to miss the fall color, but hopefully, I will see it on your blogs.

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

Follow Up Friday: CRASH – Boom – Bust!

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

When you think things could not get worse, your system board on your brand new laptop computer blows up and everything goes black.  Gee – it is not even 90 days old.  Well, at least it is still under warranty, but now I am without it for a few weeks while they ‘repair’ it.  NO FAIR!  So if my posts are spotty for a while it is because I am working on my smartphone.  Enough complaining, now to the FUF.

Last Caturday we revisited some cats of our past, Gertrude and Cuddles.  The Gnome still guards the door in their absence. 😦

Everyone liked the poster/ history lesson on Sunday on how dogs became our best friends.  They absolutely are my besties!

Monday Mischief, the doggies were waiting in the shade for summer to be over.  I think it is officially is. because it was 40 degrees this morning.

Is summer really over?

Is summer really over?

Tuesday’s Tails featured a love named Tootsie who really needs a new home.  But we also had a second post that day because of the urgent need of a senior who’s both humans died, and is living all alone in his house.  Thank you to all the people who shared on Facebook, Twitter, and their blogs.

Wordless Wednesday was a real who done it.  Noel keeps getting scratches on her pretty white nose,  I am pretty sure that it is Nine being his usual bully self, but I have not caught him yet.

Make him stop!

Make him stop!

After I got Wednesday’s post published, I went to the kitchen and got a cup of coffee.  When I came back the computer screen was blank.  I rebooted and the machine started to boot and then turned itself off.  After a few time, it just stopped turning on all together.

And now it is computerless Friday.  I hope to keep posting but I am sure you understand the challenges.

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

Follow Up Friday: Protect, Honor and Remember

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

blackcatIt is Friday 13th.  Please make sure to keep all black cats inside today.  People are cruel, especially when Friday falls on the 13th of the month and Halloween.

Louise started the new medicine this week.  She did not tolerate it very well at first, but we seem to be getting the hang of it.  I will keep you updated on her progress through the weeks.

Last week, Caturday started with a funny Russian sitting cat.  Doesn’t his back hurt after a while?

Black and White Sunday was a view into the dog’s vigil by the pool fence, waiting for either a squirrel or fox. They do take turns but Sofie seems to sleep on the job a lot.

Sofie Sleeping

The dogs went swimming in Mojo’s new pool on Monday Mischief.  Sofie absolutely loved being in the pool once she got over the initial fear.  Louise won’t even try it.  Mojo is in it every moment.  He also got a new sister this week.  Her name is Zelda and she is 7 weeks old from the same Labrador breeder that Mojo (who is 5) came from.  Louise and Sofie have not met her yet, but I bet she will be a swimmer, just like her big brother.

IMG_20130904_072355

Tuesday’s tails had a ton of FREE cats.  What an incredible gift that someone gave to the shelter to pre-pay for so many cats to help get them homes.  I do hope that people saw this as an opportunity to adopt.

Wordless Wednesday fell on the anniversary of the 9/11 Tragedy.  It is so sad to think of the meaningless killing that went on that day.  So many lives were lost.  It is just so heart breaking.  I was up in NY visiting my sister a few weeks after the attacks, and we went into Manhattan (it was her 50th birthday).  I cried when I saw the armed guards at the entrances to every tunnel and bridge.  I’ve seen that kind of police presence outside the US, but never here before that.  My friend Susan survived the attack at the Pentagon.  She was one of the luck ones a few rings in.  This pointless killing really needs to stop, don’t you think?

military dogs

Thankful Thursday gave me the opportunity to thank all the people and animals that live their lives in service to keep me free.

May you know safety, and love, and freedom, now and forever. Thanks for reading.

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.

Follow Up Friday: Smiles and Tears

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that)

. ———————————————————————————-

This has been a hard week in the physical world. Though Louise is tolerating the antibiotic, it is just not doing enough to stop the sores.  Now we must move to the next step which is a drug called a Cyclosporin.  It may or may not work, and Dr. Kate says it could take a few months to know, and it is really really expensive.  Though unemployed how can I not treat her disease? This is so painful on so many levels.

Waiting for Dr. Kate

Waiting for Dr. Kate

Sofie’s asthma is acting up this week, I guess because of fall. She is wheezing like crazy.  Benadryl 3X a day. Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OK – I am done ranting now.  Thanks for letting me vent.

——————————————————-

Let’s ignore reality and look at the blog world, which is much more fun:

Caturday, I finally was able to show you some of the millions of cat pictures that Peanut has been sending me from school in Israel.  She is in love with every one of them.  I told her that we have 3 kitties already and live an eleven hour flight away, so don’t get attached (mean Mommy that I am.)

Black and White Sunday was a happy moment with the doggies, with my smiling Sofie.  Even Lulu is smiling in the background.  I love when my animals smile, I am not sure why but it just makes me feel like I am doing something right.

Monday was the Labor Day holiday and we focused on our animal heros.

We highlighted the cutest 9 year old doggie named Champ on Tuesday’s Tails.  I do hope some one takes him soon.

Miss Smiley Sofie was back on Wordless Wednesday, hiding in the bushes.  How can you not smile when you see that face.

And, Thankful Thursday gave us pause to thank the universe for the wonders of fall.

I know that everyday is a gift, and no matter what the wind blows in, if we handle it together, we will be ok.

Follow Up Friday: Doin’ Good

Today is Follow-up Friday hosted by Jodi from Heart Like A Dog.  This is where we review the week behind so that we can launch into the week ahead (or something like that).

Louise appears to be doing well on her medicine. I told you about her PeriAnal Fistular Disease on Monday. It was kind of a shock, but she is doing well so far and some of the sores seem to be healing.  She likes that I give her a meatball of dog food at meal time (with her smelly pills hidden in them).  Even Sofie benefits from the extra yummy.  They do love their meatballs.  I am also adding canned veggies, like carrots and green beans, to give added roughage to the digestive system.  Time will tell.

Thank you all for sending your prayers.  I truly believe that your healing energy, even through cyberspace, will give her a better chance of making it through.  And several of you mentioned holistic medicine, and I need to study up on what might help with this particular autoimmune disease.

Thank you all so much!  Here she is taking a nap on K8’s bed.

wpid-IMG_20130825_144827.jpg

My local shelter is starting to do these cool collages of their animals and I posted one of senior cates on Tuesday’s Tails. The shelter is full, so they really need people to be adopting.  I wish I had the room and money to take them all home forever.

Louise and I were having fun on the front steps on Wordless Wednesday.  She is always in my face, especially when I am sitting on the steps or the ground.  Sometimes I think she just wants to crawl inside me.  I really like the one picture that pointed up at the house shingles; they make this cool stripe pattern, don’t you think?

Thankful Thursday was all about the people that are fighting for animal rights and animal welfare.  I posted a quote that Peanut sent me (my Vegan PETA child).  It hit home because I know that I want to shut off the pictures of abused animals that come into my reader because they upset me, but what I have to do is stop the violence, and only then will the pictures finally stop.

That’s it for the week. Thanks for playing along with us.  Check out the hop below and you can go play with others.
