1.25.13 Follow Up Friday: Lovies and other things

25 Jan

Well, it is that time of week to look back so that we can look forward.

Mom! Louise has all the toys and she isn't sharing.

Mom! Louise has all the toys and she isn’t sharing.

People were very taken with the wonderful angels, Gertrude and Squash, who were present on the blog last weekend.  I appreciate the nice comments, we all have our fur angels and sometimes we need them to visit more than others.  I am blessed to have a whole zoo of angels that all come visit from time to time.

The dogs were so bored after their Monday Mischief that I had to break out a new Bo-Bo.  All those toys and they can’t find anything to do.  Amazingly (and I really should not say anything or I will jinx it), the new Bo-Bo still lives!!!  But let us see what destuffing goes on tomorrow.

We really appreciated the response to Meet Mini Beaver.   It was great to find out that Sofie is not alone in her attachment to a Lovey.  Droppie, of AngelWhisper has a squeaky duck; Misaki has a squirrel; Doggy has his blanket, and; the humans at Animal Couriers make sure that when their dogs have a Lovey they go buy lots of extras.  Cupcake on the other hand, like Louise, is fickle and will play with anything (or not).

Knee Update:  The bad news is, as expected, I tore the Menisus in the left knee.  But the good news is: not planning surgery immediately (I do hope that is good – right?) Since I already have trouble with the knees we are going to take the most conservative approach.  The doctor shot the knee with drugs and I am going to go to Physical Therapy to try and get the muscles stronger.  He said 50% of people are not bothered by the pain of a tear after about 12 weeks (that seems like a long time). We are hoping that it will stop hurting even though it will never go away.  When I asked him if I would every be able to knell again, he was a little hesitant to say anything other than, “you may have limitations.”  Wish me luck, folks.  All I want to do is get back to my walk every day with the dogs.  We are all going crazy!  Maybe next month.

Thanks – Started PT and it is hard but I think getting strong will be the answer.

Thanks for joining us at Follow-Up Friday today! I think it’s great that you don’t have to jump right into surgery…I hope the conservative approach works and your knee heals up fine

Yay for no surgery. I did 12 sessions of physical therapy and 3 injections, and it REALLY did help. I am finally walking short distances without my cane. I had the same goals as you – I’m not planning to enter the Ironman Triathalon, I just want to walk my dog (and go shopping). Good luck. Do whatever exercises the therapist tells you to do at home. That will make the difference. xo

Thank you for participating in FUF, may I say I love the photo you choose!

So sorry to hear about your knee, I had that two-day pain a few weeks ago and can only imagine what you are going through with it going on for so long. I do hope the PT helps so you don’t require surgery. I bet you all need a nice walk!

Good luck with your knee. I hope the PT strengthens it. It must be so frustrating not to be able to take the dogs for walks 😦

Praying for a full recovery of your knee. Get a nice lawn chair, gather up their toys and throw it for them while you relax….. toys around here become old and battered quickly…. we are always amazed how nice other dogs toys are. In a week ours are destroyed… LOL… except Lad’s ball… it just wont die as battered as it is. Branwen’s bat also… battered (pun intended) but still here after years…
    God Bless You!

Yes – Toys look pretty bad in an instant. I have been trying the seated play thing, but Louise says, ‘That’s not fun!’ I will keep working on it.

I have a 2 yr old Newfoundland dog. She is scheduled for TPLO surgery next week. She needs both knees done. I too would like to talk to others who have dogs doing through this same procedure. We just finished getting our house ready in preparation for her recovery. We bought a pen (our Newf is too big to fit in any crates) and we have bought numerous area rugs to cover our wood and ceramic flooring. We have been told that she cannot be on any slippery flooring as she could fall and ruin the surgery. We too have another dog, a lab, he’s 10 so I am not too concerned about him trying to get Shelby to play. I am starting a blog to detail everything we are going to go through during the next few weeks.

Wow. It’s hard enough for me, I can’t imagine a giant furry in that predicament. Looking forward to your blog. Heal fast.

We hope the therapy works and you are back to you everyday walks. We know how bored everyone gets when we can’t do walks. Good Luck.

I know that’s bad, we are having trouble keeping weight off Mica the youngest. She just needs more exercise than she has been getting.
