I was laid off last week after 17 years with my company. If you want to understand more you can read about it on my business blog: http://thedigitalattitude.com . I tell you this because I am thankful.
I am thankful that the universe gave me many years of a good income and the ability to look forward and not dwell on the past. I have good friends and family to help me deal with the sadness and the uncertainty. Something new will come. Change is the only thing we know for sure.
And, of course, I have my furry loves who never let me down. Though life will be changing in ways that none of us can imagine right now, to the animals, I will always be their favorite human. Yes, for this, I am thankful.

Gosh! Golly! And My Goodness! We did not know you were in the same field as us! We too got laid off (in March) but it has not been that many years with the same employer. We have been self employed before and we are actually quite happy – even though the job we got laid off from was what we wanted to do and was a whole ton of fun!
If you need to commiserate (the stages always seem to go back and forth) you can always email us.

Thanks Ciao. I am still in shock and trying to land something within IBM, but they make it almost impossible once they have decided to cut your position. It has been 18 years since I was self employed, so my client contacts are rusty. Thanks for the email connection. That is so nice of you – Lorian

I’ve got tears in my eyes, while reading this and your other blog. What an attitude, so much power and strenghts, that’s quite amazing Lorian. There’ll come something better for you, that’s for sure 🙂

So very sorry but your attitude is amazing. Sometimes when things like this happen it is God’s way of FORCING you to make a move. I lost my job due to downsizing in 2007, it has been hard but I would never have started blogging if it hadn’t happened. Wishing you the best of luck

Thank you Caren. I am in the ‘fake it until you make it’ mode at the moment. My last day is 12 July, so I actually terribly busy cleaning up 17 years of work. Glad you started blogging. Dakota and Cody are very happy too, I am sure.

Your other blog post is such a strong, great message for so many people. You know you’re a mumma inspiration to me, but now you are to others in similar situations. It’s happening globally and I don’t think it’s going to get better any time soon. Thank heavens for unconditional fuzzy loves, huh? Big hugs from the four of us. x

I don’t think a positive attitude could get any more positive than yours. Change happens. You’ll be on the other side of this before you know it. Just don’t spoil the furries too much in the meantime. Hang in there.
