Squash E Bear
Today is a day that I tend to reflect on things that I have lost. When I was 10 years old, my house burnt down on March 10. When I was 40 years old, my Dad went to the Great Meadow in the Sky on March 10. So, today, I am thinking about one of the great loves of my life who is gone, Squash E. Bear. It was a year last month that he left us. He was one of the most incredible dogs in the universe. I miss you big guy!
Sometimes you have an animal in your life that is just, well, different then the other animals. Some bond that is deeper, or wider, or some how more intense. That was me and my big guy. A twice a day insulin diabetic (yes, I gave him his shots for years), I became his eyes when he no longer could see, and he was my heart and soul. Just another dogdaz morning at my house. ❤

I don’t sleep well. I have not slept well since, I don’t know, maybe ever. Come to think of it, my life began with a dog on the bed. And then, it moved to cats and dogs and cats and more cats. Now the dogs are not allowed on the bed, because there is just no room for the humans with all the cats (and the pillows of course). Dogs have to sleep in their kennels at night, and the kittens sleep in the safe room, so that we minimize night time stalking and cat fights. The other night we fell asleep while everyone was still out and when I awoke around midnight I found Sofie fast asleep with her head under the bed next to me. Stella was under the bed (hence why Sofie probably was in that strange position). Louise was asleep in her kennel with the door open (remember this is Lulu, the angel dog), What woke me was Nine scratching my feet (because I am a constant foot mover, even when sleeping, and the cats absolutely love to attack them). Muffin always sleeps next to me between the pillows (so close that when he stretches I wake up with little scratches on my face). Noel sleeps in the hall because she is now the Alpha and has become the night watchman. Kitty is usually under the covers around the foot of the bed (how do they breath down there?) Did I mention that I don’t sleep much?

May I come in please?
Some dogs have manners, others don’t. I know that it is our job to teach them what is expected, but some dogs, just like people, seem to just be, well…. more mannerly (is that a word?). Louise is very polite. She waits like a good girl until she is told to go (most of the time). Sofie is so excited when she is sitting by the door that even though she is sitting, she is ready to jump. Louise waits with patience. Now I know it is not always (sometimes she flies past me on the stairs), but in general, she just has good manners. I like that in a dog. Just another dogdaz morning at our house ❤

Amy has been Louise’s friend since they were puppies (about 5 months old). They love to run around the yards and also go down to the river. Amy loves the water, Lulu, not so much. I know that Sofie would love it but I am not a big one for giving them bathes, especially in the winter. We stopped by Amy’s house the other day and had fun in her yard. I think it is weird but Louise has always bitten Amy’s ears. Ever since they were little she has gone immediately to her ears. She sees her and bites really hard. I don’t know what that is about.
Lulu has had to learn to share Amy with Sofie. It is hard when you have to take your little sister everywhere. But the three of them play really well together. What makes Mommy happy is that they sleep the rest of the afternoon after their little visit. Amy is a sweet yellow lab and we really enjoy her and her human. Thanks for letting us play. I have a new phone. Did I tell you that my Blackberry went headfirst into the toilet a few weeks ago, tumbled out of my pocket – kurrrrrplunk! and there was no saving it (how embarrassing that I am airing this in public). So now I have a Motorola Razr that I have absolutely no idea how to use. I got it because my daughter has one, so I figured she could teach me (teenagers are so much quicker at this). The reason I am blogging this fact is because my pictures are terrible lately. The phone is so big that I don’t know how to hold it and snap a shot and the resolution is hard to get used to. Also, getting the pictures from phone to computer seems to take a true Rocket Scientist (which I am not). So dear Readers, my apology before hand for the blur, whir, streaks, and sunspots that you may see on DogDaz until I figure this thing out. I could of course get a real camera, but that would make to much sense. I am having a love/hate relationship with the thing. Every time the dogs or the cats are doing something cute, it takes me so long to get the thing going that I miss the moment. Well, in the weeks ahead, you get to be the judge. If you want me to go buy a real camera, let me know. Just another DogDaz morning at the zoo. ❤
