It is getting dark earlier every day and sometimes Mommy doesn’t get to walk us until after the sun goes down. She is afraid that zombies and cars are going to hit us, so she has us flashing and shining in the dark. How do you stay safe when walking in the dark?

I am happy that the days and nights have turned cooler. I get hot hot hot in the summer. I’m very happy when the winds change and everything cools off. Mom likes fall too, but she is no longer a fan of cold winter. It hurts her bones. If it would stay fall temperature it would be great, but we heard that big storms are coming this winter. Better get those shovels and the generator ready, Mom. Could you lose little Charles this year in a snow pile? Please, Mom. That would be so much fun. – Sofie Bear

Peanut says that Noel is like a loaf of bread rising in her box. I am not always happy that I have to give up a major part of my kitchen table to her. Before this became Noel’s new bed, it was where I put my mail when I brought it in from the mailbox. You just can’t win when you have cats that must be up on your level and with you at all times. The kitchen and dining room are Noel’s domain. (There is white fur everywhere on everything.) She rarely ventures into other areas. Last night I did see her sleeping on Louise’s dog bed in the living room after all dogs were in bed, she does that occasionally. All the cats love Louise. I saw Noel give her a nose nuzzle the other day (in the kitchen of course). That was a very rare thing for Noel, the Christmas cat. Just some random thoughts on my NoNo.

Some dogs (Sofie) don’t waste any time when given the opportunity to select a bone. Other dogs (Louise) take their time to pick just the right one. In the end, Louise waits until Sofie finishes whatever one she is chewing and takes that one. Does it taste better? Bark Out Loud. I just love these goofballs.

Mom has started her Halloween decorating. She is debating whether she needs to buy more skeleton dogs because there are 3 of us. What do you think?
We think she has enough scary stuff already. Do you know the name of the plant that Sofie is chewing on? It’s called ‘BLOOD GRASS.’ Ha Ha Ha Ha. It is invasive and will soon take over everything if we let it. Sort of like us. We animals at the DogDaz Zoo sure take over everything. And that’s the way we like it.
More decor to come as the month rolls on.

The weather in the Mid-Atlantic was like summer, until this week. Finally, some rain and the temperatures are normalizing. Mommy got a jump on her Halloween decorations in the warm weeks. She loves fall and she loves Halloween. (Some people say she is a witch and this is her New Year holiday – Hee Hee Hee) Of course, she loves Halloween because it is my birthday. What more of a reason do you need to celebrate. She made her usual graveyard and filled it with lots of spooky stuff. She says we live in an Asylum all year long, but now she gets to put out a sign telling everyone. Come back tomorrow to see more pictures of us with the decorations.

Hello Blog Friends – We found some very interesting things on our walk today that I want to tell you about.
We found a red balloon, which we learned means that there are clowns in the storm drains. We think that is just silly. The kids told us the clown’s name is “Pennywise.” We think Pennywise may just be clownfoolish. I think we will stay away from the storm drains for a while anyway. Mom says they are dangerous for dog paws and best to be avoided if something is going to grab you and pull you in.
Then we found an Eastern Box Turtle walking across the road. We wanted to play with it but Mommy said ‘No.’ She always says ‘No.’ These are common turtles in our area and best left alone unless they are in danger. Around here you have to be careful because the car in front of you may stop for what appears to be no reason and you will find it is to let the turtle cross the road. That makes me think of a joke: “Why did the turtle cross the road…. to get to the other side. ” Bark Out Loud, I am funny!!!

Other than our own fenced yard, there are not many places that we can run off leash. There are always so many people around and other dogs that Mom is afraid that we, or she, will get into trouble. Mom takes us down to the very end of the peninsula, we live between 2 creeks off the Magothy River, where she feels comfortable with our antics. If there are no people or animals around then she lets us go because we are locked in on 2 sides by water and the 3rd side by her. This is our favorite free run place because we can chase ducks and geese and cranes and cormorant and still not get in trouble. Once Sofie jumped into the water and Mom had to go in after her, but that doesn’t happen much. Sofie is too short and heavy to pull herself up the bulkhead and Louise hates water. Mom doesn’t let Charles run free here though because she worries that (1) he would drown if he fell in, (2) the Osprey would pick him up quickly, and (3) we would roll him down the grass and throw him in the water.
Running free is great fun and we wish there were more safe places to do it. Mom used to take us to the dog park but there were so many aggressive people and poorly trained dogs that we found it more stressful than fun. We just want to run around with Mom for a little while that’s all.
