Wordless Wednesday: Transporting Baby

WW BabyPeanut and I transported this very cute and shy pocket pittie from a shelter in Delaware to a foster home in Maryland.  We called her ‘Baby.’  She was such a sweetie.  Would you have room in your heart for her?  If so, please contact Canine Nation.  She brightened our day.  No words are needed to see how happy she was from some attention.  She did not want to leave us when we dropped her off.

 Happy Wednesday!

Monday Mischief: Amy’s Pool Is Open

Amy's Pool

Our bestest friend, and favorite yellow labby, Amy, has a great pool which we all love.  Mommy should get one like this and maybe, just maybe, I will go in it (but doubtful because it doesn’t come with an Amy inside).  She is a true water dog and spends most of her time in the river.  We like to run and play in Amy’s Mom’s yard (except when I get caught in the rose bushes).  It is nice having friends to get into mischief with.  Louise and Amy have been besties since they were little.  Lulu smiles for her in a different why (since Louise doesn’t like most doggies) and you can tell she loves her friend a lot.  Me, well, I like her too (she always has a hidden marrow bone somewhere in her yard that I can find). – Sofie Bear

Black and White Sunday: Call Me “Soda Pop”

Sofie June 29 2014A long time ago I started calling Sofie “Soda Pop,” and Louise “Lolly Pop.”   I have no idea why.  I have nicknames for all my pets and many of my humans.  My daughter is “Peanut” (that is because she was tiny when she was born), Noel is “Noey” or “Snoel,”  Nine is “Niner,” and baby Stella is “Stella Dora.”

Here is a picture of Sofie lying in the cool grass yesterday.  I noticed that her ‘snow nose” appears to be darkening (you can read about it here).  That makes me happy because it has been pink in the middle for a few years and I always hoped that the summer heat would bring back the black (or maybe it was the recent allergy treatment).

Do you have a “pet” name for your pet? (and why is a nickname also called a pet name?)

Hope you have a lovely Sunday!

Wordless Wednesday: Not Me!

IMG_1039

For some reason, Sofie will go in everyone else’s pool but her own.  Louise, who won’t go in most pools does like her own (well at least if Mom steps in to get her started).  Go figure?

Tasty Tuesday: DogDaz Chicken & Rice

If you are a regular DogDaz blog reader then you know that Louise has a very sensitive stomach and Sofie has developed allergies to “who knows what and possibly everything.”  Every once and a while, I give their tummies a break with my simple DogDaz chicken and rice dinner.  This is not their regular diet since I do not add the required vitamins and minerals that a dog should have to maintain good health.  I use this to get their systems back on track. Some people say to fast your animal for 24 hours before starting any change, but I don’t do that. If your fur-baby’s tummy is out of whack, you might want to try this for a couple of days.

Note: Please make sure to get your dog proper animal care with a Vet when they are feeling poorly.  This post is by no means a cure for anything.  I believe that food is medicine, and medicine is food and just wanted to share a simple tummy tamer.

Ingredients (for 12 cups):

4 pieces plain boiled CHICKEN (As lean as possible. I cut all the fat and skin off.)

1 cup white RICE

(Optional) 1/2 to 3/4 cup 100% pure PUMPKIN (NOT pumpkin pie mix, which is full of sugar and other stuff)

IMG_1016

Directions:

Time to prepare: about 90 minutes all together

1. Prepare the Chicken
IMG_1002

– Boil water (DO NOT ADD SALT.  Dogs do not need salt and too much can cause sodium ion poisoning).

– When boiling, reduce heat to simmer, cover pot and cook about 30 minutes or until the meat basically falls off the bone.

– Remove chicken and let cool.

– Save the broth (you will need some later and it also makes great chicken soup stock).  Skim the fat from the cooled chicken broth for the rice.

IMG_1006– When cooled, debone the chicken into small chunks and get rid of any still remaining skin or fat. (Think LEAN.)

2.  Prepare the Rice

IMG_1005 – Measure 2.5 cups (591.47 ml) of the broth (from previous step) into a pan and bring to a boil.

IMG_1003– Add 1 cup (236.58 ml) of white rice (easiest to digest for upset tummy) to broth and reboil.  Then cover tightly and simmer for 20 minutes.

– The rice will be soggy and soft when done.

– Let rice cool.

3.  Mix Chicken and Rice

IMG_1010– Add the rice to the chicken and blend them together with a fork.

IMG_10124. Add Pumplin (with or without help from a cat)

5.  Feed hungry dogs

IMG_1014

– How much you feed them depends on the dog’s size,  I give Louise (who is 58 lbs) 1 1/2 cups and Sofie (47 lbs) 2/3 cup, but don’t have any idea of the calorie or protein count.

– Mix with at least 1/4 cup of warm water to make it saucy.

Yummy

Monday Mischief: Swimming With Zelda

IMG_1065

Mojo wasn’t home today, but Uncle Stan invited us over to swim with baby Zelda in the dog pool anyway.  It was so much fun.  Louise really wanted to play with Zelda’s toy but she would not go in the pool to get it.  I, on the other hand, was brave and got all the way in, at least by the steps.  I could like this swim thing, even though I still have trouble with puppies. – Sofie “the fish” Bear

Black and White Sunday: Watching Summer Roll In

6.22.14

Louise is not allowed on the living room couch, but she is tall enough, when she cheats and stands on it with only her front paws, to look out the big picture window down into the back yard (which is one story below since this is the second floor).  We live on the high point of a court and are less than 1000 feet from the river (which we can see in the winter when the trees are bare), so we have a great view from our picture window.  I assume she is either looking down the block at human or dog activity, or spying birds or squirrels that are right up at her level high in the maple tree.  She is wearing her summer ribbon collar (which I found at a craft show one winter) made out of a neat palm-tree piece of ribbon.  Louise loves summer and I like to think, since yesterday was summer solstice, that she was watching astronomical summer arrive.  Gosh, I love that dog!
