Mommy went away Memorial weekend and did not take us to the dog party. Say hello to (from top left) Lola, Mojito, and Achoo, and her host the handsome, black and white Havenese, Izzy. Mom says maybe next time we can come too if we don’t eat them.
We have no words for how unfair it was for her to go party with all those furries while we had to stay home and snooze by the unopen pool.
Happy Wednesday.

Some of these markings are a result of a rare genetic variations or conditions, but all of these dogs are undeniably beautiful.
Of all the adorable and stunning dogs on the Internet, Reshareworthy.com collected and specifically chose the following 33 as the dogs with the most memorable and gorgeous markings!
This sweet husky has a natural little mask.

This puppy also wears a mask!

Everyone *nose* that this puppy has a lot of love to offer!

This is Puck. He’s beautiful Australian Cattle dog mix. He was found as a stray in Baton Rouge and his foster caregiver ended up adopting him!

This dog is a Panda German Shepherd. Panda German Shepherds come from a single bloodline, which does not include White German Shepherds. This coloration is a result of a piebald mutation, which shows up in many species, although the mutation itself is rare.

This is an adorable Akita puppy who is always wearing socks.

This little guys’s markings are so beautiful!

This unusual spotted dog bears a resemblance to painted wild dogs of Africa or a cheetah!

African Painted Dogs are wild dogs and an endangered species.

This unusually colored Rottweiler may be due to vitiligo, a condition that causes depigmentation. The cause is unknown.

This sweetie wears her heart on her chest!

Bull the Labrador Retriever is a chimera. He may have a somatic mutation.

A dapper dappled dachshund puppy!

This dog has a very distinguished moustache that looks a lot like detective Hercule Poirot’s.

This little guy looks a lot like a panda.

These Labrador Retrievers have a somatic mutation, which causes yellow labs to show black spots. This mutation is not inherited or passed on to the offspring.

Some dogs have lovely markings that resemble familiar shapes.

While other dogs sometimes have markings that are a bit unfortunate.

Other dogs’ markings bring a smile to my face…

Just like Groucho Marx.

This puppy’s coat is gorgeous!

This puppy has a serious expression and a beautiful-colored coat!

This dappled Dachshund has beautiful eyes.

This little guy has a natural little moustache. His name is Inigo Montoya and he was born in the middle of Movember.

This cutie is a Boston Terrier.

Gorgeous! These little ones are Mudis, a rare Hungarian herding breed.

These puppies created a sensation because when they were born they looked like pandas.

Zuma is an English Cocker Spaniel was born with blue eyes and a tri-colored coat. But his beautiful colors came at a price. The same genes that made him so beautiful also left him deaf and with a form of tunnel vision. He was facing euthanasia when his rescuers, the St. Louis Senior Dog Project, swooped up and rescued him.

This is the most unique Bernese Mountain Dog I’ve ever seen.

These dogs are awesome not only because of their amazing coats, but also because they’re loyal, friendly and loving dogs!

Today is Memorial Day in the United States of America.
I repost this story every year, because soldier dogs are truly amazing heros.
These are some of my favorite images from the new book Soldier Dogs. There are more pictures in our slideshow today.
Military Working Dogs play a crucial part in America’s armed services. The best known “Soldier Dog,” Cairo, put crucial canine skills to work in the SEAL Team Six operation that killed Osama Bin Laden. Other Military Working Dogs serve as everything from bomb sniffers to troop companions to search and rescue dogs (and also serve in darker roles, such as duty at Guantanamo Bay). Their handlers and trainers, devoted dog lovers down to a man, form an unusually close-knit fraternity within the military.

I’ve been noticing that Sofie is always sideways or upside down. Is that a submissive thing or is she just being silly? Louise, on the other hand, tends to have this look in most of the pictures like I have really ticked her off: “Oh, Mom, will you stop with all these pictures already!” Capturing the blond and black in a way that works in pictures has it’s challenges. Half the time if I have Sofie’s coloring right, Louise’s eyes disappear in her beautiful darkness. When I get Lulu right, Sofie seems over exposed.
They are a lesson in contrast, not only in fur color but in personalities. Sofie walks off lead and stays close, Lulu is on a harness with a heavy leash (she is unpredictable and easily distracted). Sofie barks at everything and whines and whines and whines, Louise only barks when she has something important to say. Thunder unnerves Sofie, but not Louise. Louise loves her kennel and at bedtime she opens her kennel door, goes in by herself (I think she would close it on her own too if I taught her how), eats her cookie, and goes right to sleep. Sofie has to be bribed to go in her kennel anytime and puts up a big fuss at bedtime (“No! I am not eating my bedtime cookie because I do not want to go to sleep. I am on strike! Blah, blah, blah, whine, whine, whine). I love my studies in contrasts.

The weather has turned incredibly beautiful. The air is clear and the temperature is in the 60s. We love to run around and now we are really thirsty. Mommy says we can’t drink the river water because it is not good for our tummies. Pant, pant, pant… “Mom you better start carrying our water bottle with you when we come down to the dock!”.
