6.10.12 Sofie’s Big Sister

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

My big sister, Louise (aka the Darkness), and I like to toss and tumble a lot.  Sometimes I could just be lying peacefully under the big tree and she will come over and pounce on my head and start something.  Most of the time, Mommy says that it is me that starts things.  But Lulu and I really enjoy our tumbling and mouthing of each other.  I show her my teeth and she just bats me on the head with her big black paws.  Lulu is bigger and stronger than me, and sometimes she can be a lot meaner too.  She is the quiet type and we can be playing along fine until I say or do something that she does not like and then….. whack….. she hits me or bites my collar and drags me half way across the yard. Sisters can be difficult at times but I do not know what I would do without my bestest friend in the whole world. I love you Lulu Belle – Your lil’ sister, Sofie (the pain in your side) Bear

6.9.12 We’re Bored!

image

We’re bored. Mommy has been working really long hours and we don’t get to play with her as much as we like. We have every toy in the world, but they are not as much fun when Mom’s not on the other end. I know that we have lots of cats to chase, and we run around the yard and eat sticks and chew mulch, but that gets boring.  We chase each other a lot and fight over the toys and the balls, but if Mommy is not there with us, it is just not the same.  So we mope.  We make little whinny noises so that she understands that she really needs to stop what she is doing and interact with us, right now!  Not later Mommy, NOW!  She does not like when we get demanding.  Actually, when we yell at her she seems to ignore us even more.  Maybe if we sit nicely she will come down on the floor and play with us.  Maybe we should go get jobs, like hole digging or security guards, so that we can bring some money in and Mommy could retire and sit around all day and play games.  But then we won’t be here because we would be working.  And then Mommy would be bored because she would not have us to play with.  Oh well, I guess it is better if the human works and we hang out all day until she is free.  It’s a hard life being a house dog, but someone has to do it.

Mommy can you play with us now?

Love, Louise and Sofie Bear, you darling dearest doggies

6.6.12 Sitting Proud

I love when the dogs and I are out on our daily walk and the post lady drives by in her little white truck and tells me what a great job they are doing.  They sit nice and wait until she passes.  I am sure that postal workers see the worst of animals when they have to come up to people’s homes to drop off mail and packages.  It is sad that so many dog owners do nothing about allowing aggressive animals to confront strangers and workers that they invite on their property.  As the owner of a fearful dog (Louise), I try really hard to ensure that she is not somewhere that she can lunge at a stranger or put herself, or them, in a compromising position. I watched a new TV show last night where this trainer was called in because this business owner refused to leave her aggressive dog home;  it jumped and bit at everyone that came through her office door.  She refused to accept that the dog should not be in the office, and she said “doggie looked sad if she was not near Mommy.”  First the trainer said, “leave the dog home.”  But the woman refused.  So next, he tied it up under a desk in the corner so it could not bolt to far.  Well, that seemed to make the owner happy and after a few frustrating lunges the dog actually did lie down. But, did it calm down? Truthfully, I think the dog would be happier and less anxious with the freedom of it’s own house and have less stress of the people coming in and out of the office all day, where it has to ‘protect’ Mommy.  This isn’t about the dog obviously.  It is about people who just don’t take the time, energy, or care enough, to try and put their animals in the safest and most calm environment for the animal.  Oh my… did I just get on a ‘soap box’ for animal rights!  Hummmm…  anyway, I am really proud of how far my little angels have come.

6.5.12 Who Wants To Be Boss, Anyway?

K8 took this picture and sent it to me on my phone. It was just one of those days I guess when everyone wanted to take a nap.  If you look at the bottom of the picture you can see Muffin’s left ear.  He has taken over the center of the coffee table lately and decided it is his bed.  The dogs were waiting at the top of the stairs because I wasn’t home, and they want to be ready, just in case I walked in the door.  Sometimes Sofie lies across the steps and refuses to move; all cats and humans have to jump over her when she does that, and… we do.  A trainer told me that if you watch how dogs go up and down stairs with their humans, you can tell who is in charge.  So for a minute I did actually have the dogs stay behind me on the stairs, but now I just let them go bounding down the stairs first and then I don’t have to deal with thinking about it.  I guess we know who is in charge in this house.(ROFL).

6.3.12 Sofie’s Blog

Mommy still does not feel well so she asked me to write the blog today.  This is really hard because, though I have a lot to say when it comes to whining for food, a toy, to go somewhere, to get attention, I really do not have much to say to humans.  I do not like when Mommy is sick in bed and yesterday, when I got home from doggie camp, I jumped up on the bed again and again to be with her, but she did not like that.  Louise is big enough to just snuggle her nose up to Mommy but I am not.  I want to be on the bed.  The cats are on the bed.  That is just no fair!  But Mommy pats my head nice when I come to her side on the floor, so I guess that is where I should go, so I get a nice pat instead of yelled at, which happens a lot to me.  No, Sofie.  That’s Enough, Sofie!  Sometimes you would think that they did not like my behavior.  But that can not be possible, since I am the most perfect saggy blond thing you ever did see.

Feel better Mommy.  I don’t like writing your blog, and I really really really do not like when you can not walk and play with us.

Love – Sofie Bear

6.2.12 Doggie Alphabet

For some really strange reason the dogs have gotten into this head to head sleeping lately.  It looks really uncomfortable.  By what I have noticed is the 2 dogs together, depending on how they are laying, are starting to look like letters of the alphabet.  Does your dog’s body position look like an English letter?  I would like to create an alphabet of positions using dog pictures.  If you have any could you send them to me at Dogdazcats2@aol.com. When I have all 26 letters, I will make a post out of them.  Thanks.

5.31.12 Thank You to Misaki, Bella & Didi

It is so exciting to receive Blog awards.  It makes me realize that people really are reading the ramblings that I spend hours writing.  It is kind of funny but I seem to get awards in clumps: no awards for awhile and then a few at the same time.   I want to say thank you to all my readers and my commenters.  I feel like I have made some new ‘real’ friends these last few months, though I only know you through your blogs and your pictures.  In a weird way, many of us out here in Blogland show a very personal side of who we are on our blogs, and that vulnerability attracts others who also  share themselves.  I thank you all for a very enjoyable 6 months doing the DogDaz blog and look forward to many more months/years together.

The first award, the Sunshine Award, came from themisadaventuresofmisaki. Misaki is an Alaskan Malamute puppy. Though I am not sure whether Misaki is a boy or a girl (hard to tell by his blog – sorry), he enjoys eating (especially bonios), having his belly rubbed, chasing pigeons and playing with his humans. I absolutely love Malamutes and always wanted one.  That dream has yet to come true at the zoo, but maybe one day.

These are the instructions for earning the Sunshine award:

  • Link the award to the person who gave it to you – thanks Misaki!
  • Answer the questions that come with it
  • Pass it along to 10 people and let them know they have received it

Here are the questions and my answers:

Favorite number: 27 (V’s birth Day)

Favorite Non-alcoholic drink: Unsweetened Iced Tea

Facebook or Twitter: fb (even with the bad IPO)

My Passion: the animals

Favorite pattern: interesting question… I am a solids person, but none-repeating patterns are my type if anything

Favorite Day of the Week:  Sunday

Favorite Flower: I do love roses, but have really been enjoying honeysuckle this week.

———————————————————-

Misaki also bestowed on us a Liebster Blog Award:  Thank you again oh little, soon to be giant, furry dog! The rules for this award are:

1. Link back to the person who nominated you: themisadaventuresofmisaki.

2. Nominate five (5) bloggers who have less than 200 followers (if you can tell).

3. Let nominees know by leaving a comment on their sites.

4. Post nomination image on this blog.

——————————————————————

Then, it was a wonderful surprise to receive yet a third award.  This time from the wise duet of Bella and Didi, the Standard Poodles, of Paws to Talk.

Bella and Didi are the smartest pair of ‘Dear Abby,’ pet question answers that I have ever met.  They always seem to have some interesting piece of advice for the troubled pooch or lonely kitty.

The Poodles did not say we had to jump through any hoops for this award (Yah!)

————————————————————-

There are so many blogs that I enjoy and when you get a lot of awards at the same time it is really hard to pass them forward, so I have created my own PICK OF THE LITTER Award.  The following bloggers get to pick one of the above awards for their very own, as well as proudly display that you are the DogDaz Pick of the Litter!

Thank you all for wonderful reading – here is the current DOGDAZ PICK OF THE LITTER:

Thank you soooooo much we love getting awards and really appreciate every single one.  Thank you Misaki, Bella and Didi for thinking highly of the zoo.  We like to ready your blogs and someday maybe we will all met in the virtual dog/cat park!

Love you guys!

5.30.12 ShadeDogs

The days are starting to really warm up.  Under ‘Big Tree’ is the best place to be when it gets like that. The dogs really like to run around but when they are done they dig little holes in the dirt/sand and just lie there for a really long time.  That is the beauty of being a house dog.  Louise and Sofie really do not have any chores like farm dogs do, herding and protecting. They aren’t expected to help with anything like seeing-eye dogs or service dogs. They are not trained to save a life or sniff out drugs or contraband. They just have to do a few tricks, laze around, and look cute.  Grabbing shade on a hot afternoon is a wonderful way to do nothing.  Spoiled, my dogs, No Way!
