6.21.12 Missing You

Sofie: Do you see her, Louise? (sigh)
Is she out there? (whine)
Why hasn’t she been home to play with us in days? (sigh, sigh)
I miss Mommy! (whimper)
Where’s Mommy! (whine)
I think I have forgotten what she smells like. Will she every come home? Does she love us anymore? Has she found a new zoo in Turkey and she is giving them all our treats? (whimper, sigh, whine….)
Louise: Oh Sofie, don’t be so dramatic.
She smells like Mommy… and she will always at least love me. (heheheheh – big sister humor).

6.20.12 Wow-Some New Awards For Us!
This beautiful “Very Inspring Blogger” Award was given to us by our new blogfriends at I Adopted A Dog – Now What? Taylor is a 1 year-old black Scottish terrier/dachshund mix with the cutest little black eyes and nose. She came to heal her new Mommy, Jessica, after the sudden death of their previous little dog, Hopper. It looks like Jessica is doing a great job from the pictures and stories she tells. Don’t worry Jessica, just listen to Taylor and she will tell you what to do.
And thank you to
Dear Kitty. Some Blog. for sharing “The Versatile Blogger Award.” Though this is a reprise of a previously won award, like chocolate, one can never have to much! Thank you so much for thinking of us Dear Kitty. Here are ten random facts about us:
- Mommy is typing this from Istanbul, Turkey
- Mommy should be sleeping because it is the middle of the night there and she has to teach in the morning
- Mommy has had to much Turkish coffee.
- Mommy travels a lot but does not get to spend much time enjoying the wonderful sites of the cities she goes to, but she always tries to take one day.
- Mommy says there are a lot of dogs and cats on the street of Istanbul. They seem well feed even though they seem loose.
- Mommy loves meeting people from all over the world and working internationally, even when it means she has to leave us for many days.
- We do not like when Mommy is away but we get lots of treats and to go to Doggie Daycare a lot.
- Mommy is thankful and a little surprised with all the people that are reading DogDaz. She said it is because we are so very cute and photogenic.
- We are not surprised because she tries to be the best zoo keeper blogger she can be. We love our human and she loves us. We know she misses us. A lot.
- Mommy hates writing in third person, but sometimes it just works. LOL
Because we are dogs and Mommy is away, she told us to thank you, but paying forward will have to wait until she is back in the USA.

6.19.12 Shoes and Slippers Revisited
From 11.30.11 Shoes and Slippers
(This was one of Mommy’s first blog posts. Wow she used to ramble.)
C doesn’t feel well and wants to stay home from school. She caught the cold from V, who was in bed all day yesterday, who caught it from K8 when she was home from college over the T-day holiday. But Grammie thinks they caught it all from her. How is it that even though I stay in bed and pretend to still be sleeping, the cats, who are right there so they know I am faking, and the dogs, who are across the room in their blanketed kennels, all know that I am awake and start to whine? Don’t you crazies know that humans are suppose to get more sleep? You sleep whenever you want. Cats, I read, sleep 18 hours a day. Me, I have a specific time when I can get a few zzzzs. Oh well, up and at it. Don’t think you are getting feed until at least 6:30 (or you will want dinner to early). Do they feel your energy subconsciously when you are trying to fake sleep? Does it hang in the air? Maybe I am moving my feet and they hear the rubbing of the sheets? I haven’t been able to sleep more than 2 hrs at a clip in about 20 years. I just figure that is my normal. The animals on the other hand see it as an opportunity to get in some late night snacks and conversation. Just another regular DogDaz morning. ❤

Why do dogs like shoes and slippers so much? Is it because they smell like us?
6.16.12 Leaving On A Jet Plane
Mommy is on her way to Istanbul, Turkey today for work and won’t be back for a whole week. She is not taking us and we are very sad that she will be gone but she said 13 hours on an airplane is no place for dogs. (What’s an airplane?) She told us to behavior ourselves and look after the humans, the cats, the blog, and each other. We are not happy about having all this work to do while she is gone and have decided that we will post some of her more interesting blogs instead of trying to paw new ones. We think Mommy travels to much and should just stay home with us. We miss her already. Maybe she will bring us some exotic bones from wherever she is. I wonder if they have dogs in Turkey and what they look like.
“Take pictures Mommy so we can see Turkish pets. We are going to sleep in your office and not move until you return.” Love, your adorable sweet doggies – Lulu Belle and Sofie Bear

6.14.12 Lulu is a Hottie
It has been really hot these days. Mommy says that the spring was the hottest on record. I am not sure what that totally means but I know that we are walking earlier and earlier in the morning because it is cooler. I like to sit in the sun. Hotter the better for me, for a little while, because Mommy makes me come in. She worries that I will overheat. I drink a lot of water I think, so I am not sure why she worries. But Mom’s do, I guess. Sofie likes to lie in the shade. She pants a lot and prefers to go inside the house in the air conditioning. She is a wimp. Heat me up sunshine!

6.13.12 You’ve Just Gotta Have Friends
Just another DogDaz morning at the zoo ❤
6.12.12 Frienddogs
Mojo and Lulu were posing and panting on Breezy Point. Mojo then proceeded to go into the sandbox and throw sand all over us. Lulu and Mojo have a very special friendship. He is the boy next door. She adores him and mopes if she does not get to see him for a few days. Funny how dogs build certain relationships that they hold dear. Not that they shouldn’t, but I just think it is really sweet. She has this friendship dog bond with 2 special dogs, Mojo Raising (male, black lab, 4 yrs old, next door) and Amy (yellow lab her age, around the corner). I assume the bond is deeper because she became friends with them when she was a puppy and those friendships have been constant in her life. Friendships are so important. I think that dogs, especially fearful and shy one’s like Louise, need to be cultivated often and early. In my quiet world, I think that I do not take her in public and into human and dog situations enough. Not that you can make a dog that does not get along with others change it’s disposition (which isn’t our issue), but for a fearful dog like Lulu, it just teaches her that other dogs are ok, and then ultimately she makes peace in her head and relaxes enough to have fun. She is fine in the dog park, but those are not friends. Frienddogs are ones that you see your dog’s ears perk up when they come into view. That your dog can sense walking past the house, even with all the windows and doors shut. I am really glad that my dogs have frienddogs. Does yours?

6.11.12 Sunshine = Happiness
Yesterday Mommy took us down to our river to see the new floating dock. It is down the block from our house, but we are not allowed to go there without a human. We have not been down there for awhile, except to see the Osprey, because they were building it and there were lots of dangerous things that could hurt us. Mommy said that 2 barges came down the Magothy River from the Chesapeake Bay and they floated the dock pieces all the way from wherever they were built down stream. The barges had big crane things on them and the men put them together like a puzzle. We don’t have any pictures of them building it because Mommy forgot the camera the one day we all came to look. But we got some nice pictures now. Since there were a lot of people and boats on the dock, it was a big test for us to sit and behave so that Mommy could take our picture on Breezy Point. We did a really good job, don’t you think? It is really breezy there because it is where the river and the 2 creeks that define our peninsula meet. We got to walk on the new dock and sniff at all the sail boats and big things with motors. (You can tell we are not boating dogs.)

There was even an old looking red tug boat docked by us, which looked really special so Mom took pictures of that too.
Weekends and sunshine are the perfect mix for a nice dog walk on the river and then lying in the shade of Big Tree.
