Hello. I know that we have not posted in a while. Losing Charles in June took all the wind out of my sails. And of course, the May left total knee replacement has slowed me down. And just when I thought I might start going out, I caught COVID.
Jolie misses her partner in crime and keeps looking for the other dog. Mini Cooper would like to be that ‘other dog’ but Jolie looks at her, as Mini licks Jojo’s ears, as if she is saying ‘You are not a dog!’
Noel, being 16 1/2, is getting more and more demented and we are starting to really have to work with her. She is catsinging all night and it is making me crazy.
Stella, is Stella, since she lives in her own world, so nothing really phases her, thank goodness.
We will have more adventure in the future but for right now, I just have to heal and right myself. Keep checking because the zoo is only temporarily on hiatus.

Charles, the mugwump (aka Charlie or Mr. Handsome), crossed over the rainbow bridge to the big meadow in the sky last Wednesday, June 28. Sadly, age took him from us. He was a trooper until the end. He would have been 15 on July 15th. We are heartbroken and miss him deeply.
Charles recused us on December 14, 2016. He was already 8 years old and we were his 5th home. You can read his gotcha day story HERE. Actually, you can read the many blogs about Charles just by going to the right-side SEARCH panel on the blog and typing ‘Charles.’ Tons of stories will come up.
Though he was 8 when he joined us he was with us for 7 wonderful years. I hope you will enjoy the retrospective from day one in the pictures below: From Dec 14, 2016 to June 28, 2023.

This is the last video of Charles the morning of June 28. I kind of think of it as his way of gently marching through the meadow to the land of no pain, no blindness, where he can hear the birds once again.

I must say that I have the best fur-nurses that anyone could ask for and a really good human one too. Please take care of your knees because replacing one is not a fun experience. They say that total knee replacement is one of the hardest surgery recoveries and I will agree with that. Mini Cooper and Jolie were very careful when on my lap but they always want to be ‘on’ me (even now while I am typing this from my recliner).
I am by no means done with healing, it takes months to a year, but now that I can walk almost a block with my cane outside, I am hoping this month to get back to a short Jolie walk. Let me get a full block first (and clearance from my Physical Therapist).
I plan to keep my once-a-week-only posts going because I am still very tired, but hope to return to my full-time work next week if all goes well.

Mini Cooper is one special cat. She is such a cuddle bug. She really needs to be on you, or at least near you. She loves other animals and just wants to be liked. She wished Charles would let her lay with him, but he says no. She doesn’t seem to mind Jolie but she does not try to cuddle with her. Nowadays she fights with Noel, but I think that is because she misses Mr. Nine so much and has still not gotten used to the fact that he is gone. We are so lucky to have her in our life. Happy Birthday, Mini Cooper.

These are some of the first pictures that I posted in November 2011 when DogDaz began. They are of my soul dog, Squash E. Bear. He left us in February 2010. I created the DogDaz Zoo blog partially as a way of trying to heal the giant hole he left. We lost four of our animal companions in 2010 which was a big blow (you can see them on the ANGEL page). Blogging is cathartic for me. My animal companions are a big piece of my heart and my soul, and writing about them takes me to a good place. If you would like to see some of the early stories, you can use the ARCHIVES box on the right side of the blog frame (it’s a dropdown box) and find months and years of stories and pictures. Or use the SEARCH THE BLOG box and type ‘squash.’

Did we tell you that on Thursday, Mom is getting a totally new left knee? Not just part of her knee, the whole freakin’ thing. She doesn’t know when she will be ready to start blogging about our adventures again, but worse, when will she get down on the floor and play with us? Her goal is to start walking Jolie again by summer. That would be awesome we think.
Charlie doesn’t go for walks anymore because of his heart, but he can at least come to the stop sign on the corner when Mom is ready. Until then, Mom is going to post some memories on Wednesdays for you to enjoy. Hopefully, you will see us back on the internet real soon.
