How do 7 years fly by so quickly? Didn’t I just bring this scrappy little puppy home in a rubber tub (because I didn’t have a crate for the car)? Sofie is a smiler. Despite everything that goes on in her anxious little head, she always wants to roll and smile at me. If there is one dog that has taught me a ton of lessons it is you, Sofie Bear. Patience is the biggest lesson and listening to what a dog needs. Thank you for teaching me to be a better dog parent. Happy 7th Birthday, Soda Pop!
We are thankful for you – our followers and blog friends. We greatly appreciate you coming by to see us regularly. And thank you to our Commenters who year after year keep making us smile.
Happy Thanksgiving from DogDaz Zoo.

“And they who for their country die shall fill an honored grave, for glory lights the soldier’s tomb, and beauty weeps the brave.” – Joseph Rodman Drake
Thank you to my Dad, my uncles, and all the men and women I personally know, and all those I will never know, who fought and fight, to keep me safe and free. THANK YOU – Lorian of DogDaz Zoo
Louise, aka Lulu Belle, is 8 years young today. How did that happen? She was just a scared 5-month-old puppy with a bad start. Now she is a wonderful (still scared) big girl. When I was adopting Louise, I did not start out looking for a black dog or a short hair. I was a fan of light colored long hairs. Louie was a silver poodle, Nikki a buff cocker, and Squash was an everything with the thickest coat in the world. We went to an adoption event to see this tan long haired boy dog that I found online but ended up falling for this shy short haired black dog covered in mange. I didn’t know then that black dogs are usually the last to be adopted and the first to be put to sleep. There is actually a name for it – Black Dog Syndrome. What a sad mistake if I passed over adopting Louise. She is a joy and has taught me so much.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! LULU
Louise would like everyone to adopt a less adoptable pet next time you have space for a new furball:
Time seems to be flying at the Zoo. It is hard to believe that little Stella is 6 years old today,
Happy birthday, Stella. We are really glad that we figured out what would make you happy, which is living in your own space without other cats. We are glad you at least let Sofie and Louise visit, though Lulu is not sure what to do when she is in your room. Charles seems to ruffle your fur, so that doesn’t work well. You are a sweet girl and we are glad you found us.
DogDaz friend, Jeanne Bellis, is doing outstanding work taking hard to place dogs and helping them socialize and reintegrate to new homes. Here is Part 3 of the Socializing Waylon series. Waylon, a catahoula-cattledog mix, was in a bind. His owner, a US Marine, was being deployed overseas and Waylon, a dog aggressive, fearful mess, had only one hope – Bellis Boot Camp. Follow Jeanne as she socializes Waylon with her pack. It’s amazing what patience, smarts, good training and love can do. This is the final episode of Waylon’s journey to socialization. Now he is ready for adoption. Let’s find him a new family to love.
We hope you enjoyed this little series. Do you find the “DogDaz Zoo: Loving Fearful Dogs” posts of interest? Would you like me to do more of them? Let me know in the comments. I am also glad to have guest posts on the topic. – Lorian, the Zoo Keeper

Happy 9th birthday, little man. Though you’ve only been at the Zoo for 7 months, you have turned our world around. You have made us little dog lovers in a big dog world. Even the cats like you sometimes (especially Noel). Thank you for adopting us and letting us be your final forever home. I guess you had to bite your way through many homes (at least 5) until you found your perfect place with us. Here’s to the next 9.
