Monday Mischief: Why?

Noel stares at us from the window in the kitchen. She sits on the kitchen table while we are watching TV in the living room and starts to throw things on the floor, eat napkins, and chew on anything on the table (like the plastic windows of envelopes). She has actually figured out how to open the lid on the dog treat containers. Lately I have left the food processor on the table because I use it a lot, so she now likes to bat at it to make noise. MEOW OUT LOUD!!!

This can go on for hours (this picture is 10 minutes after the first one). Even if you give her a snack she will start up again a few minutes later.

Why aren’t you paying attention???? Why aren’t you feeding me more snacks??? Why, why, why, why, why??

If I ignore her long enough she actually comes into the living room, jumps up on the coffee table, and tries to get in my face about her need for more food. “Meow, meow, meoooooww, meooooow!”

  • Please note that lately, she is weighing in much too heavy for someone almost 16 years old; so don’t think she is malnourished.

  • PS: She sings at 3 AM for at least 20 minutes and again, of course, when I get up at 5ish if I am not fast enough to the kitchen food bowls. Sometimes she does this in the middle of the day but mostly that is her sleep time.

What kind of mischief did you get into today?

Wonderful Wednesday: My Day With Grammie

Jolie here: Mom took me to visit Grammie. She is in a special place that helps her; it is called ‘assisted living.’ Grammie is going to be 98 and can’t get around like she used to. Even though she really is a cat person, she enjoyed my visit with her. I think I was pretty good with the old lady. I sat on her lap and I tried to kiss her.

Mom said if I get good at this old people stuff, maybe when the triple-demic quiets down, she will take me to visit old people more often. There was only one problem though: it was a million degrees in the room and I really started to fall asleep. I jumped on Grammie’s bed and took a nap while Mom did other stuff.

When Charles was a younger man (about 6 years ago when he first came to the Zoo), he visited Grammie too. But Charles is kind of set in his ways and isn’t really a lap guy. Charles is a ‘don’t pick me up’ and ‘don’t make me stay on your lap’ kind of dog.

I could really get into this visiting stuff. Unlike Charles, I love car rides, new people, snuggles, and of course, lots of treats. But turn down the thermostat!!!!

Black and White Sunday: BEEEEEP

Now that I am back to work the cats have decided they are going to take over the desk. It is kind of scary however when they both want to take it over at the same time. That is when fur can fly and things can become a CATastophy quit quickly. Papers tossed on the floor, files a mess, you get the idea.

I went to get coffee the other day and as I am walking back to my office I hear – beep, beep, beeeeeep, beeeeeep. I found Noel sleeping on my laptop keyboard (it was warm and cozy and a purrfect place for a nap) but it freaked me out. Luckily she only opened about 27 windows and did not delete anything.

How many cats do you have on your desk (and/or dogs on the floor)?

Wonderful Wednesday: We’re Back

Hello. Charles here at the Zoo.

So much has happened in just a month since Mom had to take a break from blogging because of her eye stuff. We have tons to tell you about our holiday season. For right now, I want you to know that everyone did very well and did not destroy too much – though the pesty cats did try and play with the balls on the tree and Mini terrorized the Christmas village. I have recovered great from my bladder surgery and feel like a young dog again which is really the most important thing. Health and happiness is my motto.

Christmas and Channukah collided this year (which means more presents for us). It was exhausting with all the wrapping paper to play in and the boxes and bags. What awesome fun it was having our young human family around for food and festivities (Mom says ‘young’ is a relative term now that the kids are grown). More people to give us cuddles and treats! (Maybe food and fun should be my motto?)

Mom made us sit for a ton of silly holiday pictures. What is it with these humans and their photo opportunities?

More stories and antics to come in 2023. Happy belated New Year, blog friends. We missed you.

Black and White Sunday: Fav Holiday Pic

My all-time favorite holiday picture is of puppy Louise helping put the little tree in the back of the Prius. It is wonderful to have all these photographic memories to look back and smile on.

Have a wonderful Black and White Sunday.

Wonderful Wednesday: New Holiday Look

Every year Mom, of course, has a furry merry holiday theme going on. This year she added me, Jolie, to the animals. I get to shine next to the spirit of Louise. After a million years of searching, she also found some holiday cats. Last year she ordered one from China and it never came. This year she jumped on it and got the last set in stock and drove many miles to pick it up (do you think she is obsessed). V said they look very ‘made in China’ with their pink ears, but Mom likes them a lot. Now almost everyone is represented (missing one cat at the moment but maybe the baby bear will stand in for Stella). I can’t wait to see what happens inside the house.

Have a Wonderful Wednesday!

Monday Mischief: Strike A Pose

Jolie here: I am really enjoying my new winter clothes. Mom says I look awesome. It has gotten really cold in the mornings so a sweater and even a coat are required. Mom is contemplating something called boots too because I hate when my feet are wet, but I am not sure that I would like them. Don’t you think this sweater goes great with my coloring? Your loss Charles, you never liked to wear clothes anyway.

What kind of mischief did you get into today?

Black and White Sunday: Rockin’ That Sweater

This is Jolie’s first winter with us. Because she has hair, not fur like Charles, I don’t know if she is cold. Luckily, his sweaters, which he hates, fit her. She likes them. Here she is impersonating Rockey Raccoon.

Have an awesome Black & White Sunday and welcome to meteorological winter.

Wonderful Wednesday: N is for Napping

We love the couch. Our couch is the perfect place to nap. We nap a lot. Mom says that we are just lazy loafers.

According to PetMed.com:

On average, most dogs spend about 50% of their day sleeping—about 12 hours in a 24-hour period. Puppies, large-breed dogs, and older dogs may sleep more, while small-breed dogs and working dogs may sleep less.

In addition to the 50% of their day spent sleeping, dogs will then spend another 30% of their awake hours doing what I call “loafing.” Just like with humans, loafing is when a dog is awake but really not doing much of anything—just hanging out. Typically, loafing time is spent lying down, watching the world go by, and generally enjoying being lazy.

So, that comes out to a whopping 80% of the doggy day being spent not doing much of anything at all.

Our couch is the perfect place to be lazy loafers. That and the top of the stairs.

Where do you love to loaf?
