Wordless Wednesday: Woe Is Me

“Oy Vey” or “Oy Vey Ist Mir” is a Yiddish exclamation meaning “Woe is me!”

Isn’t that so Sofie?

There are no words for the depths of her despair sometimes (for no reason other than she is Sofie).

Monday Mischief: 10 Degrees

It was about 10 degrees Fahrenheit. The big dogs and I went down to the river (it is way too cold for the little guy to be out long). We were going crazy cooped up in the house because of the weather.

Leave it to Sofie to find a blue crab claw hiding in the bushes. She thought she was going to have it for lunch. Though blue crabs are in the Chesapeake Bay (and my tributary the Magothy River) year round, I don’t think this crab was a recent catch.

We are blessed to live in such a beautiful place.

What kind of mischief did you get into today?

Black and White Sunday: Laundry Day

Charles decided that hiding in the pile of clean laundry is the perfect thing on a Sunday.

If it’s not a cat on top of a pile somewhere, now it is Mr. Little.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Caturday: Cats of Christmas Past – Gertrude

Gertrude, Christmas 2004

This is my favorite picture of my wonderful calico, Gertrude. When K8 was in High School she took a photography class and developed this picture the ‘old’ way, in a dark room. I love the grain and texture.

Gertrude was a scaredy cat. In 1992 I rescued her and her sister, Alice, from a garage that was filled with 100 flea infested kittens. She was shy and quiet and unassuming her whole life (17 years). She lived in my office most of the time and would share her window with Muffin when he would come visit. She and Zachary really liked each other too. Her goal in life was simple, she just wanted to sit on my lap.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Monday Mischief: Gefilte Fish, Anyone?

Mom likes when the Christmas and Hanukkah holiday days aren’t overlapping because she gets to buy us more toys. This year she could not resist getting us some very fun stuffies. She said we have to wait until tomorrow night (the first night of the holiday) before we can destroy them. Can you guess who gets which stuffy? We are still working on toys from holidays past, but Mom doesn’t care, she buys us new stuff anyway. Some people would say that she spoils us, but we think we are just the luckiest rescue zoo in the universe. We can smell the latke’s cooking!

Sofie wants to play dreidel (a fun Hanukkah holiday game with a special top) and stole the gelt (chocolate money – dark vegan chocolate in our house), but Mom said that is not for doggies. This picture was truly not a setup, Sofie loves to steal little things.

Caturday: Cats of Christmas Past – Zachary

Zachary, Christmas 2008

Zachary was a Russian Blue. He and his sister, Cuddles, came to us as a pair. They could not be more different. Zachary was quiet and shy and spent most of his time in the kitchen or under a coach. If you sat quietly, he would sit down with you and make a little nest. You couldn’t find a sweeter boy.

I cannot imagine a life without cats!

Black and White Sunday: Sunning Sofie

Winter Sofie 2014

I love how she loves to find a sun spot in the grass.

Dogs and cats are such hedonists. I wish life could be so simple.

Have a wonderful Sunday.

Monday Mischief: A Hair Raising Bed Story

Dogs with long, fine hair tend to shed less than other breeds. Some breeds shed very little hair. Strictly “non-shedding breeds” do not exist. However, most breeds with single coats are considered “non-shedding” because their shedding is not very noticeable.” – The Science of Fur

The person who wrote that article never met Louise.

Every day when I make my bed, I throw a flannel sheet over it immediately or I will be sleeping in fur.

I carefully tuck the sheet over my pillows and make sure every inch is covered before I go to make breakfast.

But, Louise wants my pillows. No matter how tight under the covers I put them, she digs them out and makes a nest.

It’s no fair! I used to give her a special pillow but she wants all of them. But worse….

The hair, the hair is everywhere!!

Louise is single coated and short hair. Sheis supposed to be the least of my shedders.

With the addition of Charles’ long black hair, I just can’t win.

Thankfully, Sofie doesn’t shed much (even though she has the longest finest hair). Or maybe I just don’t see it because she is blond.

Any ideas how to keep a bed fur free? I know, ban the dogs from sleeping on it!  Hahahahaha – good luck with that at DogDaz Zoo.

Black and White Sunday: Leaf Me Alone

Sofie sometimes decides that she would rather lie down under the front tree in a pile of leaves then come in the house with the rest of us. Who could blame her? Squash E Bear used to do the same thing. There is something about a good pile of leaves that just makes you want to lie down.

Have a lovely Black and White Sunday.
