Ten years is a very long time to be on earth when you only weigh 16 pounds. But since I didn’t come to live with Mom until I was 6-1/2, maybe I’m really only 4. Mom seems to like that math – and honestly, so do I.
I may have had a rough start in life, but wow… what an amazing “now” I have. When I first came home, I had my big brother Charles (the Pomchi). I loved him very much – and I’m pretty sure he liked me too. (Which is great because he didn’t like most things.)

When he crossed the rainbow bridge to that big meadow in the sky, my little brother, Bearnard (the Papillion) joined the crew. Beary and I are the bestest of buds and partners in all things fun (and snacks).
And, let’s talk about timing – having a birthday on Valentine’s Day? That’s basically winning at life. Extra love, extra cuddles, and probably extra treats. What’s not to love?

1st Day Home
Birthdays happen so fast. Bearnard came to live with us in September 2023. They did not know his birthday. They did not know his age (maybe 2 or 3). In keeping with DogDaz tradition of giving all our rescues holiday birth dates, (because most rescues don’t actually come with real birth dates), his birthday became July 4th. BEARY is officially 3 DogDaz years old.

It is hard to believe that we have only been with Jolie since July. She seems like such an integral part of the zoo. Every animal, even Stella, loves her. She is silly and loving and always hungry. I made her pictures mostly into cartoons for her bday. Happy 7th ‘Lil Bit. You make us all smile.
And what is the chance of having one love with a Valentine’s Day birthday? We have 2! Happy bday in heaven today, Mr. Nine. We miss you tons.

2022 has been a rocky year for Charles so far but it is only going to go up from here (or so Mom says).
14 years young in little dog years hopefully has a lot of runway left for adventures and treats.

My wonderful Louise, aka Lulu Belle, turns 11 today. She is just such a wonderful soul. I really enjoy her company. She is patient with the cats and tolerates Sofie and Charles very well. She loves to have Mom all to herself on morning walks and it seems like the only time that I really see her smile. Except for this picture above. She had the biggest smile that day. Usually, she is more like the picture below.
“Why are you making me sit here in front of the roses, Mom? Grump, grump, grump. Let’s just keep walking.”(Don’t my wild roses look great for late fall? They really had a second burst.) I just love this dog.

What a long strange trip it has been to get to 9 years old with this bundle of fluff. Sofie Bear continues to be a silly mess that we love with all our hearts.

I remember Gotcha day so well. I meet Sofie’s foster in a parking lot outside his work. I had no car kennel so I put her in a giant rubber tube. She was so smart and precocious even at 3 months. They thought she was a collie/shepard mix. Well, she fooled them. I think she is a sheltie/chow/mischief mix.
