I know that it has only been since July that Jolie has come to live with us, which in dog time is not long. This has been a very big change for a dog that lived 6-1/2 years in a cage with other dogs and only went out maybe once a day.
Jolie is very protective of her kennel. She especially does not want me to clean the mat or the blankets. Maybe she is afraid of losing them? Maybe there was only a cold floor in her previous one?
I gave her Louise’s sheepskin to keep her warm and she loves it. Lulu came with that sheepskin from her foster when she was a puppy and around here we pass things forward when we can.
Jolie has started to disappear into her kennel whenever she hears loud noises or voices. It is her safe space. But recently she puts herself to bed around 8:30 PM and just stays in there. I am so glad that she has a place she feels safe in, but sorry, baby, Mom’s gonna wash those smelly blankets.
Charles here: This is the last picture that Mom took of us before she put the big green cover on the pool. We like to look at the pool but we don’t want to go in it. We are not really water dogs and even when invited we think it is scary. We do like to run around and chase the ducks and stuff that fly in and we love to dig in the dirt and make a mess in the bushes.
Hard to believe how fast seasons seem to move. When Mom opened the pool the end of May, Louise was still with us (she passed June 17). Now that we are closing the pool, she is gone and Jolie has come to stay. Change is on the wind as the light grows shorter and shorter each day.
Jolie is learning to love lying on the warm deck as much as I do. The Fall afternoon sun is awesome!
This week, in the Northern Hemisphere, autumn begins for real. It has been feeling like autumn for many days with the cool nights and the leaves falling to the ground. Thursday, September 22 the autumnal equinox* will make it really autumn even though to meteorologists, meteorological fall started on September 1. This is all very confusing but Mom says it is the bestest season of all 4 (Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring) and we are taking full advantage everyday.
*At this point, the Earth’s tilt is moving away from its maximum lean toward the Sun; its rays are aiming directly at the equator.
Mini here: You know that the arm of the couch is mine. And I don’t know why this new smelly little dog thinks she gets to own my spot. No way. I showed her!! I sat on her head until she moved. Enough is enough! Go away, Jolie. Go find your own spot.
The last days of summer fun are coming to a close in the DogDaz garden. Tomatoes are almost done and pool is closing Wednesday. Leaves are falling like rain.
We shall never forget! Here is Mommy at the 9/11 North Tower Memorial pre-opening in 2012. Mommy grow up in NY so the devastation hit hard for her home state, but we live outside of Washington, DC now, so when the planes crashed at the Pentagon, the devastation directly affected our friends and family as well. We have reached the DogDaz of Summer. Those hot hot Mid-Atlantic August, thunderstorms every day, days. The dogs don’t mind so much. (Which is wonderful because Sofie and ultimately Louise, were terrified of the T-storms). They wander around the yard, which for the littles is a ton of space, and stay in the shade. Charlie mostly does his thing and after 10 minutes wants to go inside to the A/C. Jolie is still discovering that there is a wonderful world outside of a cage (after 6 1/2 yrs), so she never wants to go inside no matter how hot it is.
Jolie is now my permanent office assistant. She finds all the stuff I drop on the floor during the day. I discovered she likes to chew ballpoint pens. Mini, who used to always be my desk assistant, is currently on strike and is not showing up to work. Hopefully, that will change.
Mostly I find Jolie sleeping on the job. But, I enjoy her company and she is fitting in the routine perfectly.
Mr. Charles got a haircut today. He always looks so handsome, but today he looks kind of grumpy. He doesn’t always like to pose, but that is the life of a beautiful dog.
Jolie discovered the tomato garden all on her own. I never had a dog that ate our tomatoes before. I read that they are fine for dogs to eat, just not too much because of the acid. She was very proud of herself. Now I guess I need to put a fence around the veggies.
