Wonderful Wednesday: Photo Fail

We got haircuts and no matter how hard Mom tried, we did not want her to take a good picture of the 2 of us.

Here is the best we let her get. She says we look so pretty.

Do you like to go to the groomer?

Monday Mischief: We’ve Got Bluebirds

My photo (sorry for the blur)

Internet photo of male and female Eastern Bluebirds

We are blessed to have Eastern Bluebirds spending a great deal of time in the yard this year. It is probably because V has discovered that they love mealworms and is mixing them into the feeders. We have waited years for Bluebirds. V even put a Bluebird house, perfectly positioned on the big maple out front, so that we can watch it when doing dishes. Last year a male came and checked it out but never moved it. I wonder if he will try it again this year?

The Eastern Bluebird is a small thrush with a big rounded head, large eyes, plump body, and alert posture. The winds are long, but the tail and legs are fairly short. The bill is short and straight.  – All about birds.org

Wonderful Wednesday: Nappers

Sometimes, napping with friends is just so much more comfortable, don’t you think? Are you are solo napper? Or do you like to cuddle nap with friends?

Monday Mischief: Let’s Snuffle

Do you have a snuffle? They are mats that are perfect for hiding treats in so we have to work at finding them.

Jolie is absolutely obsessed with nose work; Charles, not so much.

Snuffling is a brain game. This is like dog scent hide-and-seek. Since dogs have millions (or more) scent receptors than we do, this is a great way to activate that part of their brain. According to The Dog People at Rover.com, the scent-processing part of a dog’s brain is about 40 times larger than in humans, making it about 1/8th of a dog’s total brain space.

Snuffle mats have a lot of benefits:

  • Slow down a fast eater
  • Encourage reluctant eaters
  • Help anxious or bored dogs burn energy and distract them
  • Help with cognitive decline/dementia

Do you want to learn more about using a snuffle mat? Check out this info from RUFFLE SNUFFLE, they say they are the original.

Wonderful Wednesday: My Day With Grammie

Jolie here: Mom took me to visit Grammie. She is in a special place that helps her; it is called ‘assisted living.’ Grammie is going to be 98 and can’t get around like she used to. Even though she really is a cat person, she enjoyed my visit with her. I think I was pretty good with the old lady. I sat on her lap and I tried to kiss her.

Mom said if I get good at this old people stuff, maybe when the triple-demic quiets down, she will take me to visit old people more often. There was only one problem though: it was a million degrees in the room and I really started to fall asleep. I jumped on Grammie’s bed and took a nap while Mom did other stuff.

When Charles was a younger man (about 6 years ago when he first came to the Zoo), he visited Grammie too. But Charles is kind of set in his ways and isn’t really a lap guy. Charles is a ‘don’t pick me up’ and ‘don’t make me stay on your lap’ kind of dog.

I could really get into this visiting stuff. Unlike Charles, I love car rides, new people, snuggles, and of course, lots of treats. But turn down the thermostat!!!!

DogDaz Zoo: Do What’s Right – MLK

“Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well-being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way.” ― Martin Luther King Jr.

Wonderful Wednesday: We’re Back

Hello. Charles here at the Zoo.

So much has happened in just a month since Mom had to take a break from blogging because of her eye stuff. We have tons to tell you about our holiday season. For right now, I want you to know that everyone did very well and did not destroy too much – though the pesty cats did try and play with the balls on the tree and Mini terrorized the Christmas village. I have recovered great from my bladder surgery and feel like a young dog again which is really the most important thing. Health and happiness is my motto.

Christmas and Channukah collided this year (which means more presents for us). It was exhausting with all the wrapping paper to play in and the boxes and bags. What awesome fun it was having our young human family around for food and festivities (Mom says ‘young’ is a relative term now that the kids are grown). More people to give us cuddles and treats! (Maybe food and fun should be my motto?)

Mom made us sit for a ton of silly holiday pictures. What is it with these humans and their photo opportunities?

More stories and antics to come in 2023. Happy belated New Year, blog friends. We missed you.

DogDaz Zoo: Happy Holidays

We wish all our wonderful blog family an awesome holiday season and a wonderful 2023 New Year celebration.

Mom is having eye surgery this week and will not be blogging again until next year. Hopefully, she will be seeing her way to more posts in early January. (Get the pun, ‘seeing her way’ – Bark Out Loud)

Thank you for following and commenting and just being our blog friends. We appreciate you and hope to ‘see’ you all in the New Year.

Wonderful Wednesday: New Holiday Look

Every year Mom, of course, has a furry merry holiday theme going on. This year she added me, Jolie, to the animals. I get to shine next to the spirit of Louise. After a million years of searching, she also found some holiday cats. Last year she ordered one from China and it never came. This year she jumped on it and got the last set in stock and drove many miles to pick it up (do you think she is obsessed). V said they look very ‘made in China’ with their pink ears, but Mom likes them a lot. Now almost everyone is represented (missing one cat at the moment but maybe the baby bear will stand in for Stella). I can’t wait to see what happens inside the house.

Have a Wonderful Wednesday!
