Charles, the Mugwump, here. I need to tell you about Mini Cooper. She is a cat. But she thinks she is a dog. She is about my size which is somewhat disconcerting. I tell her to go away (GRRRRR) because the bed is mine and I am the King, but she doesn’t listen. When I try to snuggle with V, Mini pushes her way in and won’t leave. What is a Mugwump to do with a CatDog who has long sharp claws and can jump way into the air? No matter what Mom says I am never going to trust her, but I guess I will make peace, as long as there is no food involved. Then all niceness goes out the window.
Begging has gotten out of hand at the Zoo. Even Noel has joined in the staring contest.
“If I look at you soulfully enough you will surely give me a piece of whatever you are eating. RIGHT NOW!!”
Charles is actually the worst because he can’t contain himself and he starts to demand bark (with that little yappy PomChi staccato.)
The house rule is that no animal is fed from a human plate directly. Food needs to be in their bowl preferably or at least on the floor. If the other humans in the house followed my the rules, this probably would not be going on as much. I think it is much easier to train animals than humans. At least the animals are only staring and not grabbing. I guess I should feel accomplished at that much.
Mom got a gluten free cupcake for her birthday. It sure looks like cardboard to us. V says everything Mom eats is cardboard anyway (because she is gluten and dairy free and does not eat meat) but we think Mom’s food is pretty good since we eat simple too (and she shares lots of veggies and fruit with us).
We are going to throw a party for Mom. Shhhh… don’t tell her. She said she is feeling old this birthday, so we thought we would throw her a little surprise to make her smile. Noel, the Christmas cat, suggested we all pee on Mom’s newspaper but we dogs can come up with something better than that (right Sofie and Charles?). Maybe we can shred some of our toys and throw the stuffing around the living room as decorations? She would surely like that. What do you think we should do?
Happy Birthday, Mom! We love you – Louise, Sofie Bear, Charles,
Mom likes when the Christmas and Hanukkah holiday days aren’t overlapping because she gets to buy us more toys. This year she could not resist getting us some very fun stuffies. She said we have to wait until tomorrow night (the first night of the holiday) before we can destroy them. Can you guess who gets which stuffy? We are still working on toys from holidays past, but Mom doesn’t care, she buys us new stuff anyway. Some people would say that she spoils us, but we think we are just the luckiest rescue zoo in the universe. We can smell the latke’s cooking!
Sofie wants to play dreidel (a fun Hanukkah holiday game with a special top) and stole the gelt (chocolate money – dark vegan chocolate in our house), but Mom said that is not for doggies. This picture was truly not a setup, Sofie loves to steal little things.
The weather has finally turned ‘normal’ for December in the Mid-Atlantic. It was nice to take a brisk walk down to the river. Getting these three to pose is just impossible. Charles won’t sit on command, Sofie wants to lie down wherever she is, but, at least Louise listens to me (sometimes).
I will master the group photo sooner or later. I tried a selfie of me with the three dogs but that didn’t work. I think I need another human to get a family shot.
Do you have a good method for family fur fotos? I really need help here. Share in the comments. Thanks.
“Dogs with long, fine hair tend to shed less than other breeds. Some breeds shed very little hair. Strictly “non-shedding breeds” do not exist. However, most breeds with single coats are considered “non-shedding” because their shedding is not very noticeable.” – The Science of Fur
The person who wrote that article never met Louise.
Every day when I make my bed, I throw a flannel sheet over it immediately or I will be sleeping in fur.
I carefully tuck the sheet over my pillows and make sure every inch is covered before I go to make breakfast.
But, Louise wants my pillows. No matter how tight under the covers I put them, she digs them out and makes a nest.
It’s no fair! I used to give her a special pillow but she wants all of them. But worse….
The hair, the hair is everywhere!!
Louise is single coated and short hair. Sheis supposed to be the least of my shedders.
With the addition of Charles’ long black hair, I just can’t win.
Thankfully, Sofie doesn’t shed much (even though she has the longest finest hair). Or maybe I just don’t see it because she is blond.
Any ideas how to keep a bed fur free? I know, ban the dogs from sleeping on it! Hahahahaha – good luck with that at DogDaz Zoo.
Charles here. I want to tell you about my day. Once a week, Louise and Sofie go for a play date with Sonya and her pack for a few hours. That leaves me home with Mom and the silly cats. I get sad when my sisters leave but Mom always gives me something special to chew on while they are gone. I am a really good chewer and make quick work of every chew treat she gives me. Then I pine until the girls return. What is your favorite chew treat?
