I tried to get a picture of all 3 dogs in the fall montage at the entrance to my neighborhood, but Charles did not like it at all and wanted to go home. He is not one to sit quietly and look pretty and I made the mistake of trying to force him to sit, which ended with him trying to eat my hand (no damage done).
The next day, I got Louise and Sofie to sit in the grass but because Sofie needs to lay down (she can’t sit very long anymore because of her arthritis), she is kind of hidden behind a bush. At least Louise will listen and look at me (sometimes). 🙂

Charles here. Did I tell you that I am the only dog in the zoo that is allowed on the bed? I am super special (or is it because sometimes I am mistaken for a cat?).
The big dogs can’t even get on the bed anymore even if they wanted to because they can’t jump that high and their hips don’t work. Mom has steps for me to climb because I really can’t get up by myself either, but they are little steps for me and the kitties.
Mom sometimes lifts Sofie on the bed in a thunderstorm (all 55 lbs of her) because she gets tired of sleeping on the floor to keep Sofie and Louise calm (not sure it works for Sofie but it does help Mom). Lulu hates being on the bed so Mom doesn’t even try with her 65 lbs of solid muscle.
Me, I love the bed. I have been told that my little 17 lb self becomes the size of a St. Bernard at night. Who, little me?

Louise here. Since I am the only one that walks with Mom in the morning, she gets lots of pictures of just me. Here I am in the front yard with the beautiful Japanese blood grass. It shows its colors in the fall. Mom waits all year for it to shine. Grammie (now 96) was a very experienced gardener. When she had to leave the big house, for the place she lives now, we took several plants from her garden. Actually, we weren’t taking the blood grass, it came as a volunteer with the purple physosigia. And, we are so glad it did because it is the understated star of the front garden. Have a wonderful Wednesday.

There is nothing more enjoyable than a fall day on the deck.

Even Nine and Mini want to get in on the action from inside.
Happy Autumn!

Hey, it is me, Louise. The one that Mom calls ‘BooBoo Head.’ I got my stitches out. It was no fun going to the vet but once it was done, I was relieved to get home and no longer have all these strings hanging off my ears and my skull. Mom is hoping that my hair will grow over the scars in time. But she is happy that I no longer have these large ugly thingies on my head. Now I can roll and flick my ears as much as I want without all that gooey red stuff bursting all over my face.

I think Mom is still going to call me ‘Boo Boo’ though. I kind of like the name.

I was making breakfast and I turned around and 5 of the 7 furballs were in the kitchen watching me. I am sure that they could not have wanted more to eat since they had all just eaten. But, of course, they do! Why are animals always hungry? Stella of course was in her private suite and Charles was sleeping with the retired human (usually until the crack of noon). No second breakfast for you boys and girls, sorry. But, lunch is only 5 hours away.
Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Sofie 1 year old

Sofie 10 years old
Sofie just always looks like she is smiling even if she is scared. In the bottom picture, taken last weekend, she heard a firecracker outside and ran to Louise for comfort. She still looks like she is smiling.

Louise had several sebaceous adenomas removed yesterday. I would have left them alone but the big ones had started bleeding and it was scary. I am not sure they bothered her, but when your dog comes to you with blood all over her head and your carpet, you kind of freak out (yes, I did).
A sebaceous adenoma is a benign tumor of the oil gland cells of the skin. Some people call them ‘dog warts’ but they aren’t viral like a wart is, though they do grow along a root system.
Lulu, aka BooBoo head, started to have them years ago. I had one removed last time she had a dental because she was asleep. She only had one then. Now she has them on her head, her face, her ears, and down her whole back. The one on her head, in the picture above, was very big and oozy (yuck).
The vet removed some surgically and others with a laser. Now she has stitches in multiple locations that will have to come out in 12 to 14 days. You know Lulu Bell, she is the sweetest girl and never complains. She was so happy to be home and have dinner (after significant sniffing from Sofie, Charles, and even Nine). Now to make sure she doesn’t scratch at them. I just love this dog and, like all my Zoo, I want her to be comfortable and happy for many years to come.

This is one of my favorite shots of the animals mirroring. Here is little Mini Cooper with Louise laying together on the bed under the blanket (I did the blanket thing, they didn’t). Humans mirror too.
Mirroring is a social phenomenon where animals mimic another’s posture. In humans, we may not only mimic posture but gestures and words. It is an unconscious behavior but it is a sign of being attuned and in sync with the other being. “It shows that there is comfort, trust, and rapport among them.”
Do you mirror?

Thunderstorms are a normal occurrence around here and so is thunder anxiety.

Sofie has eaten through that door 3 times now (I have become an expert at fixing it, watch my video) and pulled up the wall-to-wall carpet.
I try to always be there if I can when a storm is in the forcast.
