Wordless Wednesday: Garden Day

It is definitely spring and we are really enjoying being outdoors. We wish the kitties could come out into the garden with us too. Some dog (who will remain nameless) encouraged them to rip a hole in the expensive dog-nails proof screen and helped them to a moment on the deck. Mom was not happy especially since Nine’s adventure in the wild last year when he was gone for 2 days. Mini came through the hole, and being the sweet thing she is, walked up to V in the garage, wondering where all the fun was. That is how Mom found out about the new hole. This time, Nine stayed in the house. Maybe he remembered how scary the yard can be. Someone always seems to go wondering when Mom is not at her best. I guess the cats are just opportunists.

The days are getting longer and lighter. Even limpy Mom is coming out on the deck.

Have a wonderful Wednesday! – Louise, aka Lulu

DogDaz Zoo: Happy 3rd Birthday, Mini Cooper

Mini Cooper behaves more like a dog than a cat. She is extremely social and more forward than any cat that has every been at the zoo. She greets everyone at the door, tries to go for walks with the dogs, and is ever present, just like a dog. She wants to be on your lap whenever possible and loves to watch the fish in her fish tanks. She is a great little girl. Happy 3rd birthday, Mini Cooper, you bring us great joy!

DogDaz Zoo: Honor Those That Keep Us Free

This Memorial Day in the United States, please remember to honor our troops, our vets, and our fallen. Freedom costs us so much. Never take it for granted.

In loving memory of my Dad a US Army Sargeant in World War II. He never talked about it much, but was proud to serve. Came home with a bullet in his leg for the rest of his life. Dad refused the ‘Purple Heart’ medal*, as thousands of other soldiers did during that war, because he did not feel he earned it after seeing how badly wounded other’s were.

*More than a million Purple Hearts have been awarded since General Washington’s Badge of Military Merit was revived in 1932.  The unique heart-shaped decoration continues to widely recognized by Americans.  It also continues to be prized by all who receive it, probably because the award of a Purple Heart does not depend on any superior’s favor or approval.  After all, the Purple Heart is unique as an egalitarian award in what is usually thought of as a nondemocratic, hierarchical military organization, since every man or woman in uniform who sheds blood or receives a qualifying injury while defending the nation receives the Purple Heart regardless of position, rank, status, or popularity.- ArmyHistory

DogDaz Zoo: Opening Day

Yeah! Memorial day weekend is opening day for the big pool. Don’t worry that it looks like a lagoon. Mom says the winter was so mild that all the green stuff called ‘algae’ had a lot of time to grow. She says it will burn away when the sun comes out (and after she throws in a ton of chlorine). She can’t go in anytime soon anyway because of her foot cast though she is still doing all the prep-work. That lady never sits still for long. We got a new friend this year, he’s called a ‘minion.’ We think his name is ‘Stuart.’

We can’t wait until the ducks try to swim in the lagoon so that we can chase them away. For now, we wait.

Have a great weekend!

Wordless Wednesday: They’re Back

Louise and Sofie finally returned from Sonya’s Dog Farm after 2 weeks away. This means that Charles and Mini Cooper no longer are the only two critters that wanted to be on Mommy while she recuperates. The big dogs jumped right up and made themselves at home. Charles decided that it was best to seek the highest point on the bed for safety (Mom’s foot pillow). Isn’t Mom lucky that she has all of us taking care of her and making sure that she is protected on all sides?

Monday Mischief: Harold and Maude Return

Every year Harold and Maude, or their children or grandchildren, have come back to nest in the front yard. Ducks do that. The experts at Ducks Unlimited say that ducks “imprint information about their home breeding and wintering areas and use navigational cues to return to them. Adult female ducks often return to former breeding sites.”

We have been blessed for the last 16 year’s as we have watched Harolds and Maudes waddle around the grounds, swim in the pool, and ultimately waddle their ducklings down to the river.

Luckily the ducks are in the front yard. The dogs would love to chase them, and do roust them if they fly into the back or worse in the pool, but the front is leash only territory so the duckies are ‘kind of’ safe. They must feel at home since they keep coming back.

What kind of mischief did you get into today?

Black and White Sunday: Small Pleasures.

Charles is a happy sort. He really is enjoying that Mom has to work lying down, so he gets to snuggle up close and help her type. Small pleasures.

Happy Sunday.
