3.16.13 Fifty-Six on Caturday
Noel here – Today is Mommy’s birthday so I made her a cake.
It is a dairy free, gluten free, kibble cake, with tofu icing. (Yes, we know our Mom eats weird.) The animals and I all agree that she will love it! I used the Santa table cloth, because you know I am the Christmas Cat, and, it was the only one I could find on FaceinHole.com . We love our Mommy and all year she focuses on us so today we are focusing on her. We let her sleep until 6:30 this morning, as a present.

3.15.13 Beware The Ides Of March & Cerberus
The “Ides of March” is an interesting day. It is the 15th of March and it commemorates the assassination of Julius Caesar in 44 BCE. Why would anyone really want to remember something like that? But Caesar (you know who he was, right?) got himself stabbed to death at work (he was a senator). They say that there may have been over 60 people (lead by guys named, Brutus and Cassius) that were involved. The interesting thing to me is that Caesar was warned that this was going to happen; but, silly him, he went to work anyway. If someone told me that I was going to come to harm if I went somewhere later today, just for the heck of it, I would stay home.
William Shakespeare (one of my favorites), made this prophecy famous in his play called … (of course)… “Julius Caesar.” In the play Caesar is warned by a soothsayer to “beware the ides of March.” Hence, the expression.
For some reason this all made me think about dogs in Greek Mythology (OK, Caesar was Roman, but somehow I made the jump). Which lead me to thinking about the three-headed dog, Cerberus. He was a watchdog. The difference between him and my Louise is that Lulu watches over my house, where Cerberus watched over Hades (also know as, hell, or the underworld.) He allowed people to enter but he never would let them leave. Some people did escape however, like Orpheus, who lulled him to sleep by playing soothing music, and Hermes who used water from the Lethe (a river that ran through Hades). The most famous ‘person’ who got past Cerberus was Hercules (I like him best in the Disney version). Actually, Hercules did not get ‘past’ Cerberus, he wrestled him into submission and brought him to the land of the living. And they say that Cerberus’ saliva fell to the ground during that encounter and that is what produced the first poisonous plants on earth.
You never know where the ides of March will take you. Beware!

2.21.13 Thankful Thursday: Peace Love & Whiskers Shined On Us
We are Thankful today for Peace, Love, & Whiskers, an amazing blog about amazing animals.
Peace, Love, & Whiskers takes extra special care of some extra special pussy cats and doggies and provides us out here in the blogosphere with wonderful interviews. You really need to go visit. Thank you PL&W for the great work you do in highlighting kitties and doggies that need special care and love. Several of the DogDaz rescues, canine, feline, and guinea, have all needed a little extra love to get through their days, but they have brought us tremendous joy. The Muffin Man, our orange and white Tom, had heart disease his whole life (2 pills a day), and was the king of our castle. Miss Constance Kitty was born with a crooked spine, but did great with it in her early years – until the pain got to be too much. Squash E. Bear was a two times a day insulin diabetic, who eventually went blind, but he and I would still walk a few miles every day. Mr. Motto, the king of Guinea Pigs, had pneumonia almost immediately upon adoption. It was very touch and go for over a month, but he lived another 7 years. Noel, the Christmas cat, has feline Herpes but she is doing great and just turned 6 last week. So thank you Peace, Love, & Whiskers for taking up the cause of the animals that need a little extra love.

3.11.13 Monday Mischief: Is It Spring Forward, Fall Back?
Louise and Sofie were waiting in the yard for spring yesterday. Maybe it was because the clocks changed here in the United States for Day Light savings time.
Something caught there attention beyond the fence because they were both transfixed for a long time. Maybe it was spring coming over the hill?
When daylight savings time changes for spring, it changes human’s mood for the better; the animals, I don’t think they really care.
